turn into hack, bot, exploit, cheat, City?

Im mean for those of us that have played Blizzard games before their not exactly known for their unhackable code.... I know this is a MMORPG and the others were not, but I have played several MMO's over the years and all of them have had hackers, exploiters, ect in them...

The problem here is that Blizzard has a cult of hackers more so then any MMO development company out there. These hackers have huge sites and teams all with the single purpose of making money off of Blizzard games and inturn ruining the games for tons of people. Frankly im concerned that this might turn into L2 but 10x worse, what do you guys think?

P.S.    If any Beta testers would be kind enough to answer I was just kinda wondering if you might have heard about any problems with hackers in the beta so far.

Blizzard doesn't really have a cult of hackers. Blizzards games just have some people who enjoy botting. *Cough* Koreans *Cough* sorry, my cold is really acting up today.

I wonder why Lineage II had so many bots?

You should get that cough looked at rathma image But no, mmorpgs are mainly serverside, unlike the other blizzard games, which were hosted on your computer, so it was much easier to cheat/hack.  And those games were free, blizzard will pretty much be forced to look into bugs, otherwise players will stop playing.  So, I wouldn't worry.

The only thing i can think of that WoW might have is bots. Which come to think of it, will not work well at all.

They worked fine in Lineage II, because all the program needed to do was target a monster, and trigger the attack button. That was pretty much all you needed to do in that game.

WoW has more skill than Lineage II, they'd need a pretty complex bot to actually work.

I don't think we will see as many bots as was in Lineage 2. However, even though asians have their own server, many will still play on the north america servers. They will do this to get gold and sell it and their accounts on ebay. But, the demand for gold won't be as bad either because in order to wear some armor, you need to be a certain high level. And by the time you are that lvl, you will have the gold to buy it. In conclusion, asains will be a problem, but I don't think even near the capacity as they were in Lineage 2.

Everygame has it's downsides. This is one of those that are presented by WoW. So far, I haven't heard much about what Blizzard will do to stop cheaters, hackers, and botters. The localized servers may help a bit, but as archon said, it won't stop the whole thing.

As it was said but in different words. Nothing is perfect and it is when you think that something is going to be perfect that you will expect to much and in the end you will be disapointed no matter how well and good the game is. So don't expect perfection from WoW just expect it to be a fun and great game to play.

I really wouldnt worry much about the hacking, like others have said this isnt like war3 where everything is on your harddrive and ready to be hacked, most of the important stuff is serverside... as for bots haha... im from shadowbane so i can deal with em haha.

It's more difficult to hack and exploit MMO game code. Strictly because you don't have access to embedded server files that contain your player/world statistics. Where as in diablo, all the game files were right infront of you on your comp.

I don't think it's going to be a big problem, especially since there are segregated servers for different parts of the world. example: asian players cannot play on NA servers.

there will always be hackers/cheaters/bots no matter what game you play and no matter who makes it... theres always going to be someone out there bored enough to hack into a gamecode and write a bot to play for him... its only useful for finding items to sell (mostly on ebay) and it won't really affect you if you don't buy from ebay. i didn't care on Diablo II about all the bots because i mostly just played with my friends and didn't really ever feel the need to be the most elite character on the game.... i think the same will hold true for WoW... some people will use bots to try and make real money but its easy enoug to ignore them and go on about having fun in the game in my opinion.

I am hoping Blizzard can listen to the community of WoW, when it comes out, and fix any exploits that individuals are using.  Blizzard usually has good reputation to listening to the community.  Things are hectic, however, now that the game is coming to OB soon.image

Well im still worried a bit, but hell what can you do.. As for the person that says blizzard doesnt have a big following of hackers :P I suggest yout try doing a simple search with 2 words.. Blizzard and hacks...

While this is a MMORPG and I know alot of you think that it is not that easily hacked due to the fact that its server side. But the fact is that while is not as easy as client side its still possible, DLL files are a Mofo :(....

I just hope Blizzard is very strict and goes for the throat so to speak as soon as they suspect cheaters.

Any game that is popular will have hacks to it. From something as small as a minor maphack to something as huge has hacking character levels or stats. Doesn't bother me, though. It always happens and it will never stop, the people will always try to hack the game, and as it looks right now, they will always succed.

Seeing how there are websites dedicated to hacking blizzard games, I fear very much that WoW will have an above average number of hacks and hackers :/

I think it's important to realize that NC soft is not your average company, much less one with a reputation anywhere near comparable to Blizzard.  NC never has gm's (visibly in game), are notorious for not helping with any issues, and are juggling an already sparse number of resources (as far as NA) between several mmorpgs.  If WOW will have present gms, and any type of decent support, it hopefully wont be ramapant.  AO had the occasional exploit, but they were at least acknowledged and tackled in patches.  NC soft hasn't made any comments or actions involving exploits that farmers use such as spawning where they died (the enchantment exploit is apparently not real).

IMHO, nothing can ruin the game for me, at least not that I can think of...just don't let those things get to you I guess, since there's nothing you can do about it really.  Hackers are everywhere, and in nearly every MMORPG out there, unfortunately.

Bliz has openly stated that they will allow bots/hacks and the like during closed beta.  You are right, where there is a will, there is a way and I cannot think of any game that cannot be hacked in some way.  WoW will be no exception.  I can only assume Bliz will begin to enforce a more strict code of conduct during retail.

Well said flyngtrmpt, I am with you there.

The only thing that bothered me from the Diablo II days in relation to hacking was me trying hard to get the next best cool helmet for my char .. only to have some random char log and join my game and dump a bunch of stuff in town which was way above my level ... and then come over and offer me a vampire glaze because he had three ...  image

I realize the exact same thing won't happen in WoW ... but I'm still afraid of something similar happening. I don't want to end up with the temptation of using equipment handed to me which I didn't earn.

Idealistically, I'd like a community where everyone felt the same and gold accounts on ebay would never sell ... but I can deal with that part. I just don't want someone throwing a bow at me which is twice as good as mine when I worked so hard to get the one I am using...

this being said  ... it is true there are a lot of hackers homing on Blizzard. BlizzHackers.com is one of them ... priding itself for overworking Blizzard Employees since 2000 ....

I dont think you have anything to worry about,Blizzard has thought about that threat over and over agian. Plus if you keep talking about it more people will get the idea to do that.

  • ElevenEleven Member Posts: 11
Blizzard has talked about really cracking down on cheating, not to mention in DiabloII they had started doing it.  I feel with WoW it will be very strict, I hope immediate bans without hesitation.

LMFAO link? Frankly I think your just spouting BS

And as for people saying that they are not worried about the hacks/bots/exploits that plagues every I say EVERY blizzard game... We shall see.. Frankly I'M ALITTLE worried and quite sick of it to tell you the truth. I tend to look at a Companys track record to see the trends, and one of Blizzards biggest trends, aside from having a well made game, is having a game code that is Hacker friendly...I just hope Blizzard reacts swiftly to the hackers and bans them right away.

.dll files are a mofo and so are the people who hack blizzard games.

bots are the only problem i can see... being such a big name game, there will be bots for it... soon as the korean version is fully released expect to see a few botters on american servers... i DOUBT it will be as bad as Lineage 2's botting was (cant say "is", as its being cut down quite a bit now)...

as for hacking... i doubt that will be a problem... remember, its an MMORPG now... not an RTS...

exploits... meh... define what you mean by "exploit"... there's many different kinds of "exploits" so its hard to give a good answer to this one...

cheaters... would that fall under the same catagory as exploiters?

This is a totally different type of game the mechcanics for a MMORPG are nothing like Diablo or WC3 series,

If any of this would be to happen, its not as likely here but still can happen, then its easier to trace because characters are all server side and i'm sure Blizzard will take swift action, cheating here will cost you your life in game anyways..

I was in the ST but that really doesn't mean much its the type of game mechcanics that really makes the differance!
