LMAO.... Crock the greatest hater of them all. After his trolling of the AO forums a few months back and now this post, I'm would now like to nominate Crock for "Hater of the Year".
However he is right, I normally disagree with Crock and I'm usually very forgiving of MMORPGs but this game does have some severe problems:
1) The guides, the NPC that are supposed to help you through the basics of the game, do not work at all in one of the noob zones.
2) You can become trapped and forced to restart in trainer rooms when the trainer and the exit suddenly disappears!!!
3) Harvesting is very complicated and time consuming for getting next to nothing.... It will require an insane amount of time to get a decent amount of resources out of the ground.
4) Guides and help are almost nonexistent. Never have I found myself in a MMORPG and been this confused. I arrived, looked around, and said, "WTF NOW!?!?!?" .... AO was far simpler!!
5) I will takes an insane amount of time to get anything accomplished and even when you do the feeling of accomplishment is strangely absent! This MMORPG is not for the casual gamer.
6) Lag... OMG the Lag... its been getting better but OMG at least once a night I will be sitting a my screen for about 5min staring at a "Please Wait" window!!
7) Bugs and Glitches are everywhere!!! Crazy stuff will happen all the time: You kill a mob and it walks around for a couple of minutes before it dies! (Zombie MOB!!! AAAAHHH!!!), Each race has its own noob zone but sometimes the wrong race will end up in the wrong noob zone! It sounds like its raining but I can't see the rain!
8) NO BACKGROUND MUSIC.... EVER.... get ready to play your own cd..... unless you want to go insane from the deafening silence!!!! AAAAHHHH!!!!!
9) Forget ranged weapons... the bullets are so expensive for doing less damage than a sword of equal level that you will feel like you are shooting money at the mobs, and in a sense... YOU ARE!!!
However this game does have some redeeming values and I have played it for over 60 hours this week, so I can't totally bash it....
1) The environment is awesome, they were going for a "living breathing ecosystem" and they got it down pretty good.
2) Little details like how a curious Yabo will come up and sniff you and check you out, some times wave at you and sometimes pee on you.
3) As much as I hate... and I mean hate the harvesting system... they put allot of though into it and harvesting has proven to be just a challenging as any fight... with many factors going into just digging up one material (which I think is completely retarded and not worth the time!)
4) The graphics are good.... not outstanding... but pretty good.
5) In my noob zone I have meet some of the most helpful people I have ever encountered in a MMORPG. There may be absolutely no direction or help from the developers but I've never had a problem getting any of my questions answered... Everyone has the "we've all been screwed by the developers so let do the best we can to help each other out!" mentality. There is namely this one guy Cricket who for some reason, despite having ridiculous high levels, hasn't left the noob zone and sits around answering questions and crafting awesome weapons for new player.
6) Finally the best feature about this game is its skill based system for character development. You can have one character and be able to be a mage, fighter, crafter, and harvester all in one..... if you have that kind of time. There is no limit to what your character can do!! I worked on my fighting and crafting then on a whim decided to become a mage with no problems and still retained the benefits from my high level fighter stats, namely health, making the transition even easier.
So in conclusion Crock is right about this game, I will make no quams about it, Ryzom is &*$ed up. However this game has great potential if they can just get the bugs fixed, correct the balancing issues, and get some freaking music. There is allot to do already and some aspects are very addicting but at this point.... get ready to invest allot of time into a game that feels like it is still in beta......
I think they should set the closed forum in read only mode for non-players. There is nearly no critisize on the forums. There are some posts like that :
Cool moments so far? Hello..
Thought I'd start a new thread here to share a cool moment (one of many so far) I had in SoR last night that, to me, displayed to a great degree the depth and thought put into Saga of Ryzom...
And then it'd be cool for anyone else who cares to, to share theirs...
Last night, I decided to take on some quests to rack up some more money to help fund my crafting training. I took on one to bring back a few tufts of hair of at least Q11 from a creature.. believe it was a Bodoc or something like that.
So, I went out and hunted down some Bodocs. I killed one or two and collected the hair, finding it was only Q8 or 9. Not high enough. Well.. no problem, I have to go find their tougher relatives... So off I went..
I run on and along the way pick off a few Weeney Gingos or something like that (some of these creatures are so wierdly named it's taking me time to remember all of them :-). A few strides later and I spot my target.. the Weanling Bodocs. However, no sooner do I see them than I notice two Puny Gingos... I know they're going to cause me trouble, so I start circling the herd of Bodocs to find a better position.. There doesn't seem to be one as both of the Gingos are on the move as well, moving in the same general direction as me. What to do.. what to do...
I know that if I go ahead and pull one of the Bodocs, I'm running the risk of a Gingo getting too close and aggro'ing me while I'm still fighting my intended prey. So.. I start waiting for a break...
Then I get it.. but not quite what I was expecting.. and this is where Ryzom's brilliance comes into play...
The Gingos each decide to attack a Bodoc.. so, now they're each occupied.. though I don't know for how long and still am not confident of my ability to safely grab the required number of Bodocs to get the hair tufts before the gingos finish off their prey and come after me... I'm focused as a mage so my HP and resistance to harm isn't much to write home about... and I"m not about to go back empty handed... or dead.
Then my break comes.. In a great example of the herding system Ryzom has, the remainder of the Bodoc group, apparently sensing danger, separate from the other two being attacked and move off, as a group, to a safe distance from the ensuing fight. Perfect! They are now away from the two Gingos... I can safely place myself so that I have the Bodocs between me and the Gingos, so even if they do finish off their current fights, chances are better that they'll go after another Bodoc than go straight through the herd and come for me... or at least that's my thinking.
I let fly an acid spell and the fun begins! Two bodocs later and I have my hair tufts! Funny thing is, the Gingos and Bodocs are *still* going at it.. and it seems to be a stand-off, as neither seems to have a clear advantage over the other.
In any case... that was a very unique situation that I have never been part of in any other MMORPG to date. I have never been able to use the mechanics of predator-and-prey and herd-mentality to my advantage to accomplish a task... I actually have some ideas in mind now of how I might use that dynamic to my advantage down the road... or at least plan to. We'll see just how clever they turn out to be in time :-)
So.. there ya go....
Anyone else care to share?

I just want to take a little time to express my thanks to the entire Nevrax development team. They have created one hell of a great game and one I thoroughly enjoy. In fact, I enjoy SoR so much, that I am 95% convinced to completely un-sub the other 2 MMOs I play, including deleting the characters.
Now, before anyone claims I have a case of "fanboi"ism, let me add this: I am aware of the problems still in the game. In fact, I have submitted a few tickets mysself. However, in spite of the maddening lag (which is part and parcel of any online environment) I have yet to experience anything that prevents me from playing and enjoying this game.
One of my personal 'favorites' (for lack of a better word) is the simplicity and yet depth of the character advancement process. Another is the ease with which a player can change "schools" or "classes" simply by equipping the appropriate tool.
Again, I realize that any game is going to have its faults in any players eyes. However, the few issues I have encountered so far, are more a matter of personal taste, nothing that I am unable to overlook or accept.
Bottom line -
Nevrax has got a true winner in Saga of Ryzom. With the notes available on the upcoming patches I can only see it getting better.
THANK YOU NEVRAX!!
or
The lag that I have personally seen has been limited to a very VERY brief period of time after midnight Central time zone. It stutters, halts and then after less than ten minutes (last night) it is gone. (thinking back on it, it may have been much MUCH less than ten minutes, but I wasn't watching the clock. It could have been as little as four minutes.)
I would say it is more of a umm Lag Storm, than a lag monster that sits on your chest. I have seen worse lag in the BIG games. I would LOVE to see a fix, but I am not lagging to death and can...the vast majority of my time, enjoy my play.
I am VERY encouraged to see a fix applied with such SERIOUS speed. Earth and Beyond lied, denied and stalled for six MONTHS. You addressed this in less than six weeks, and applied a patch in less than a MONTH. Guys...this is VERY telling of the attitude and concern of the developers of this game.
If EVERY issue is addressed in such a seriously timely manner...this game will CRUSH anything that gets in its way...including the competition.
Cilar let me start out saying that you obviously do not have a grasp on the "big picture" of SoR nor do you seem to have any concept of how a forum should work.
First of all I have a few issues with the idea that a "closed forum" should only be open to those playing the game:
1) How are people curious about the game supposed to ask questions and present "issues" they may have with the game?
2) If someone is badmouthing a game they haven't even played, that should become evident immediately to any one who has played it and they will be called on it.
3) I think those who do, for whatever reason, have a bad opinion of the game should be able to voice their concerns because if their complaints are not valid then they will be corrected, and more importantly if they do raise an issue that has validity then that problem does need to be addressed.
Secondly I would like to see Ryzom become a thriving and "bug free" online world. The reason that I purchased this game is due mostly to the fact that it is a unique concept in a genre where everyone seems to be following the same blueprint. I was really excited about the skill based character development and the way everything behaves like a real ecosystem. However I'm not thrilled at the fact that I shelled out $50 for a game that is obviously not complete. Every MMORPG has balancing issues (ranged weapons, harvesting, and low level magic advancement for example), but the fact that issues like the three times today I had to restart today because the trainer and the exit from the trainer room simply vanished is unacceptable! Which brings me to my final point and conclusion:
You are a moron! "There is nearly no critisize on the forums." Are you *#$*ing kidding me?!?! WTF dude! The forums are filled with people voicing issues about the staggering amount of bugs and corrections that need to be made in order for this game to operate like its no longer undergoing beta testing! Oh and in response to that post: The dude that wrote that is obviously going through a "honeymoon stage" where the novelty of one event had not yet been beaten away by the bugs, lag, and unrefined combat system.
You want a story here's a story: I was fighting one of those Gingos and killed it. Now this was supposed to be the part where it falls to the ground dead and I collect the materials left on its corpse.... WRONG!!! The damn thing proceeds to go walking around like nothing even happened. I could not interact with it in any way. If I tried to attack it, the system gave me the "You Can Not Attack a Corpse" message. Then after a couple minutes (I was telling everyone in Region Chat what was happening during this) it suddenly came around and attacked once more, then fell strait to the ground dead!
The whole living ecosystem is an awesome concept, but Zombie Gingos will bring the fantasy world to a screeching halt and the reality of a poorly made game smashing down upon it.
Most people who play the game, myself included, will tell you that the concept is cool and the game does have allot of potential, but Nevrax has failed to properly develop this game and is now making me pay to correct its mistakes.
You will find good comments about the games potential, some of which has been realized, but you will also find that Cilar must be retarded to say "There is nearly no critisize on the forums."
Actually, I quite like having a players only forum. One of the things I don't like about many forums are the 'drive by' whingers - those who cruise forums complaining, many about games they don't even play. You see it here too - people cross posting, especially in the WoW and EQ2 forums.
I understand what you're saying about where should people go to ask questions etc, but the Ryzom boards actually have an area where guests can ask questions and get help if they need it.
I for one am sick of seeing posts from people who played the beta for 10 minutes 6 months ago claiming they know all about the game and how much it is 'teh suXXors'. I honestly believe that to a certain extent if you are not a paying player you have no right to criticise. I don't go on the WoW and EQ2 boards and tell everyone their games suck based on my having read a preview and looked at some screenshots.
While I'm ranting here, let me also say I'm pretty fed up with people going on about all the 'major' problems there are with Ryzom. I remember the 'customer in use' bug with Earth & Beyond, where people couldn't log in for weeks at a time, or the three and four day rollbacks in BiosFear when patches got screwed up - *those* are 'major' problems. The fact that Ryzom has a steep learning curve is not a problem, it's a design decision.
Are there bugs in Ryzom? Heck yes, there's a lot, but none of them stop you playing. The issue with disappearing trainers only affects the new player island, as all trainers on the mainland are outside anyway. The lag is virtually gone after the patch they put on a few days ago. We had an invasion yesterday - about 100 players fighting wave after wave of mobs and there was virtually no lag at all. I'd like to see any other game that can do the same with the same degree of success.
As for harvesting, yes it's slow to begin with. I'd like to be able to pull more mats from each source. Having said that, I can currently pull 4 at a time, and some people pull 5 or 6, and that's in the mid-80's as far as levels go. The level cap is 250, so as time goes on people will pull many more at one time.
As for being unable to untrain skills - why would you want to? All the actions have a use in one form or another, and even if you choose an action that you subsequently decide not to use, so what? Skill points are very easy to come by. Even if you decided to level magic, then subsequently decided not to use it, the points earned in magic can only be used for magic, so untraining would be a waste of time.
It just seems to me that some people are never happy unless they're whinging. It's really very simple - you don't like the game? Don't play it. Cancel your subscription and go somewhere else. If you like the game but want changes made, post them on the official foums where they can be seen and acted upon.
Coming here and posting long lists of 'major' problems is quite simply whining for the sake of it. No-one from Nevrax will see them here, so what's the point other than to try and disparage the game?
isn't this actually something that all mmorpg's suffer from at launch and for a few months after?
When has a game been launched bug free, with tons of quests and content, and to universal acclaim.
Is it not more the case that a gamer looking to get seriously involved in an mmorpg picks the one that 'feels' right to them, and appears to have potential and long term interest and goals?
I've had a few of the issues on SoR that have been raised in this thread, but would have to say that what I have been impressed by is the speed that the gm's have responded, sorting things out in a polite and friendly manner. Makes me feel like they actually care about the game community.
The biggest plus of all I've found so far, is the other players are incredibly friendly and helpful.

LMAO.... Crock the greatest hater of them all. After his trolling of the AO forums a few months back and now this post, I'm would now like to nominate Crock for "Hater of the Year".

However this game does have some redeeming values and I have played it for over 60 hours this week, so I can't totally bash it....
