I will come back if 4k lag spikes are gone. Are they?

donjndonjn Member UncommonPosts: 816

Okay I will lay down $15 for a month very shortly.

The only thing stopping me now is the 4k lag spikes. If they have not been fixed by now I wonder if Funcom will ever be able to fix them.

Have they been fixed?

Not something I experienced at all during my return( from august until a few days ago). I'm still in the process of deciding if I want to throw down another $15 on another month. The problem really isn't performance, content or lacking gameplay any longer, the problem is the populations at present. I'm not sure what server you were on, or whether you plan to start anew. On deathwhisper the numbers just aren't there to offer any lasting appeal. I could log into Bloodfin(SWG) right now and find more people.

If I were you (and I'm not, so take this with a grain of salt) I'd wait a few more months see where things stand. It's not the money I'd be worried about, it's the time and effort in building a character that's a bigger issue IMO.

The funny thing is that Craig an co never announced the performance increased that came with sep 17th patch (patch 2.0). However as an active forum reader and poster I picked up that latency got dramatically improved with this patch. There is simply no more posting on this. I woun't lie to you though, I got one latency spike yester day. It was very brief though and this is not an issue any more.

As fare as population issues go, some of the servers have low population. Others are however booming as all people now coming to the game only join certain servers. You can read more on server populations in the AoC forums.

Ive come to the conclusion that the lag spikes are a ISP issue and not a server issue. How? At home I get the lag spikes, I went to a friends and played and magicly there were none whatsoever. Also look at people posting about them, You'll see a lot of people saying they dont have them. If its a problem with Funcom's servers, EVERYONE will have the issue.

Actually, I noticed a bit of server lagg since the last patch, we had 3 lagg spikes in 8 hours saturday and the whole group had them so it's server wide. Could off course just be a temporary issue with Crom also, havnt got one since.

Generally the spikes are down a lot however.

i just got the game not long ago and have not experienced any bad lag spikes so far. If you are looking for a populated pvp server on US, go for Tyranny. Don't complain if you get ganked though.

If it was a problem with my ISP, EVERY MMO I play would have that problem.

    I play on Wiccana PvE.

Not because it is a roleplay server but because it is the largest populated PvE server by far.

Anyone know how it is now?

Where are the US servers located? Never done any research on this myself, however I agree it's probably not on your end.

Wiccana is densly populated now. It is one of the densest populated servers besides Set, Tyrrany, Cimmeria, and Deathwisper. Prepare to line up in popular dungeons. People everywhere.

For that test to have been a valid ISP evaluation you would need to take your computer to your friend's house and test it there plugged into their internet connection.  Then you could assume it must be an ISP issue if the lag spikes stopped.  Otherwise it could be a computer related problem.

And Crom, it is one of the biggest in the game if not the biggest.

Funcom uses the same ISP for AoC as they do for AO. Savvis.net

And Savvis is constantly being shown at fault for the massive lag that AO gets. Customers of AO have yelled at Funcom for YEARS to change ISPs, but Funcom refuses. Now that we know Funcom also had a telephone service, we know why. So more than likely, that is where a majority of AoCs lag ( real lag, not graphic lag ) comes from.

And over the last week alone, I have encountered dozens of those lagspikes in AO.

Crom is a very active server and I am quite sure you will see improvements in latency even though I do not know too much about your cable company.

The 10k ping spikes still exist, theyve been around since the game launched and it never mattered what ISP you used, it was always server side... FUNCOM even said they know its them and they are working on it, once up a time in july, before I uninstalled the game sometime.  Go check the official forums, its there, its not this guys ISP or that guys, its FUNCOM.

In that case it was possibly the new server code they deployed last week during maintenance that killed the issue.

When was the last time you experienced one or played the game?  Just curious. Oh did you say July? I bet 90% of people who experienced lag spikes don't anymore and IF they do they are minimal. Did you miss all the lag spike issues gone posts? Thats 2 months + you haven't played and still pretend the game is as it was then, when its clearly not.

Actually a lot has to do with the ISP you use and how its routed ADSL / DSL in relation to your location and the server location.

When it comes to funcom, the only ISP that matters is theirs.

Savvis.net is shit and goes out/fucks up constantly. Craig and every other dev/mod on the AO forums always came off with the "It's your ISP", until the customers started posting results from packet loss data and ping traces.

Hey, what's going on with AO right now? Let's take a look:

    Hello Everyone,

We are experiencing some network issues with our hosting company. Currently we have teams working on resolving this as quickly as possible. Players may experience excessive lag and intermittent disconnections during this time. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

     -------------------------------------

This is a common occurance, Avery. If you ever played AO, you'd know that and quit with the "It's your ISP" crap.

There are threads going back years filled with this shit, and customers BEGGING Funcom to ditch Savvis.net, to no avail. They claimed they got too good of a deal with Savvis. Then we find out, of course, that Funcom was also selling cellular phone service.

And who provides the ISP for AoC? Savvis.net.

Start adding the truth of Funcom into your attempts to defend them, Avery. Or just give up altogether, because others will be happy to point it out.

Actually, my ping is excelent and so is my FPS, but I got 1 lagg spike every 3 hour or so since the last update, seems like that new server code just works so-so. Hopefully they will fix it next update.

Havn't gotten any spikes for the last 2 months before. And my ISP is not a problem here, I have better ping than any of my friends in all games. Besides, do you really think my ISP should mess up at the same time they are working with the server code?

I hear ya. It's just that the majority seem fine now (as in nobody has this issue over in AoC forum). I hope however FPS and stability with more increased for ya with patch 2.0.
