Will I need an uber PC to run this?

Silverthorn8Silverthorn8 Member UncommonPosts: 510

After re-watching the awesome trailer, I got to thinking can my pc run this?

Or more to the point, will it run it on even medium settings with the amount of polygons being splashed around the screen, as seen in the vid?

I'm running with amd 6000 dual core/8600 nvidia card and 3 gig memeory, frankly I'm in doubt it'll handle the game.

Any thoughts/speculation on this?

I hope it will be built like wow, graphically that is. Low end rigs could play wow very well. I dont ncessarily want the game to look like wow, i just want it to run like wow does on my comp.

    I give no mercy

Well, you might need to upgrade your videocard, the 8600 is a bit slow. If it have good cooling you can probably just clock it like an 8800 and do fine.

Fortunatley the thing that do most of the work in any new game is the GFX card and it is easy to get a new one and usually not that expensive.

Even if they ran the video on a really old card you can count that you want to have a faster card at launch, there are a lot of new features in GFX cards since the 6000 series. I just changed from 8800 to 280 GTX and it is a really big difference there too.

Everything depends on how modern the DF game engine is anyways, the more modern features and options it got the more you want to upgrade your GFX card.

My system is about the same, apparently the specs are much lower but I have trouble imagining that so I'll be upgrading.

I might get one of these as well www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Nostromo-SpeedPad-Directional-Throttle/dp/B0000DC643.

If you watch the video carefully you'll notice that everything is low poly (like Mount & Blade) so I suspect that lower end systems should handle Darkfall just fine.

One of the awesome things about DF is that you can run it on an average or lower end system.

Don't see  DF  repeat the stupidity of  AoC and think they smart enough to keep their requirements  low.

In most MMO i played people didnt' had last gen stuff and most people don't like to get forced to  buy those for a game.

I see some really witty and funny people around here.

@OP: Aventurine have said that there will be a dynamic level-of-detail adjustment system and that combined with the lowest graphics settings should be able to run on any rig newer than 2004.

I can't reccomend that. First of all many games don't support SLI, not sure about DF...

Second of all, I ran 2 8800 GTS cards in SLI before, it gave 5-10% boost to the card, nothing near my new  280 GTX card. It will give you a boost but not that much, clocking will give you more boost.

Best way is to try to get a cheap 8800 or 9800 card either new or second hand, it will give you a lot more and still be cost effective...

Anyways, read this, it is helpful if you want to get most out of your old card: www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/141/1

And the rest of you: I don't care what the devs say, the minimum reqs are always to low in any game, the game usually laggs on low setting at min reqs and on a MMO that will kill you. The game will have to look good enough and float fine...

Often you can have your system run it on minimum if you opt your system and clocks a bit but it require work, you can't just put in the game and play with good results.

In that case, it would be quite pathetic on how much does a last gen game actually improve, when the "next" gen MMOs are basically equal to the original Everquest.

Hey thanks for the relevant replies all.  Gonna keep an eye on this one, gfx aren't a biggy for me.

Lol I d/l'd a sega genesis emulator a few weeks back for nostalgia, graphics meh!

Having played video games since 1979 (i.e the dawn of time to most of you) I have seen them evolve from pong all the way through to modern state of the art failures.

The people I see on just about every gaming forum rubbishing a game for it's graphical nature, are essentially spoiled brats.

Content is king when it comes to any game, for me at least.

Games usually use low-poly models, mid-high poly models are only used in movies etc. Keep that in mind before you start flaming low-req games. ;)

I bet i'll still see you in open beta/after launch making "OMG FULL LOOT IS DUMB, I QUIT AND DF DIE" threads.

Your current rig should be fine. I don't think you will be able to run around on max settings at a big siege or anything but I doubt anyone will.

Most people will likely run one setting when they are just running around doing whatever, and then switch configs to a lower spec one for big battles.

Think of it as an FPS game, the people who really get into the game, usually run lower settings for max performance. Darkfall will be a lot like that since there could be potentially huge fights, that will tax any system at a point.

The kewl thing is the Dev's have said that there will be an auto adjusting feature on the settings to keep lag down. When you get a lot of people around you and start to lag it's supposed to automaticaly reduce the settings to keep it at a high fps.
