I'm a raider ... yes the "scourge" of the MMO genre if you ask some people lol. I play EQ2 and pretty much have seen it all. From what i have read about Vanguard it seems like it has really really improved. how is the endgame raiding content?
Comments
There is one endgame raiding zone called Ancient Port Warehouse. Its a giant raiddungeon with I think 18 raidbosses. Everyone needs a unique strategy, but I think you know the drill.
There are also a bunch of giants which roam the lands which are now, with this update, contested. If Im not wrong not all were beaten so far.
Most raid-guilds on the server are casual, means they raid from 2 to 4 evenings the week. Few guilds are more hardcore trying to raid 5++ days a week. The raid content is limited though. If youre hardcore 7day raider you should better look for other games. If you are more casual youll find enough raidcontent for months.
Thats my opinion.
The APW raid is large and complex. I haven't actually done it but have talked to people that have and raiders I've talked to say it is very well done.. I believe there are like 27 bosses in there. In any event here is a good site with info on the Raid and all the bosses.

In a couple of months there is another high lvl dungeon/raid dungeon being added. This will be the revamped partheon area. No idea how big it is but it will have something to do with the gods and telon has a LOT of gods. Like 10+ and maybe up towards 20. I saw a list once on the VG forums.
So anyway it looks like another large raid area is coming soon and they are talking about another one following that. So now that IoD is done and a lot of bugs and stuff has been killed I'm guessing we will see more focus on high end content. Will be interested to see how fast they can crank it out...

They're also about to add another raid zone called Pantheon of the Ancients, extremely storyline driven and very detailed. Raiding's good.
Darkfall Travelogues!
raiding is not bad for a game that didnt start with any. its more of a challenge on the FFA server .
Raiding is a big strength of Venguard.
I would have to argue that raiding and end game in Vanguard are very well done.
I have found that learning the raid strategies for each boss in Ancient Port Warehouse was a lot of fun and provided a good challenge. My casual guild has only made it through about half of the content and we have been in there for a while. Most guilds take months to work through all of it.
Though, right now, there is really just one large raid dungeon. The developers say they will soon be patching a brand new raid dungeon. From what Ive read, It sounds like some exciting new (free) content.
Vanguard also has a lot of end game content for single groups. This is the kind of stuff that I have spent most of my time doing. Many of the single group quest bosses are very challenging and have provided me and my friends with many hours of fun.
The one thing I dont like about Vanguard endgame are those faction coins. They are an optional way to get coins that you can trade for armor and mounts (and in the future some other rewards). These coins (though optional) encourage grinding named bosses. They really need to develops these faction coins so that people can get them questing or in some other way.
Raiding is very well done, each boss unique technique.
Another raid dungeon coming before xmas with a group element to it as well.
As someone said 2-4 days a week is about right for VG raiding.
Now playing: VG (after a long break from MMORPGS)
Played for more than a month: Darkfall online, Vanguard SOH, Everquest, Horizons, WoW, SWG, Everquest II, Eve
Raiding is challenging and as mentioned they are adding a new area with Pantheon of Ancients
Shol where did you learn about these giants ?I'm interested ..I know in Qalia there is that huge Cyclops ...whats his name Nerswal (spelling ) who always screams aloud he wants to eat " 2 legs " but do you know of others ?
"after the time of dice came the day of mice "
the raiding is great fun....i've done the Ancient Port Warehouse and a few of the overland raids and as someone who doesn't really enjoy the npc questing thing....(or most pve period) i love this you can enjoy the game till 50 as there is more to do than is possibly required for leveling....but then when you get to 50 the rading begins as mentioned raiding is harder on the pvp server as our pop is low atm due to warhammer and AOC trials.
Well, I'd reply with something nice about the Raiding in VG but the OP is correct when they say that raiding is the scourge of MMORPG's, and I'll have nothing to do with it.
But having said that, OP, it sounds like the raiding that VG does have to offer might be worth the challenge for you to checkout.
Raiding is a lot of fun in VG. The bosses in APW are challenging, and some of the overland bosses have not been beaten yet (I think Fengrot has not been downed after something like 10 months of being in the game).
The downside is that with its modest sub base its hard to see a steady stream of end-game content coming into the game. I might be tin-foil-hatting it up here but I kind of have this theory that the Devs make a few bosses rediculously hard (ie overland bosses, a few bosses in Griffon Quest) to keep people from finishing content in a reasonable time and searching for more.
You are a Everquest 2 raider? Forget about Vanguard´s endgame.
Only ONE raid dungeon till now, wait a coulpe of updates, the raid/endgame content in Vanguard if you compare to Everquest 2 endgame is very, very, very, very limited.
The worst part is, SOE will not invest in proper expansions for Vanguard.
I know usually raiders dont play MMOS for only 2 months, and a MMO with just one raid dungeon and no upcoming expansions will be frustrating for a raider, trust me.
If you want to try Vanguard, you will experience good moments and good group dungeons, if you want a home for months and Raid experience, forget it.
APW is not bad, it is a pretty cool dungeon, but it is it, nothing more... you cant compare with the incredible number of unique raids in EQ2.

I joined a casual raidguild and Im raiding since 2 months. The guild had 25% of apw done and were now around 50% (prob a little below). Our progression is not slow and we like it.
My suggestion would be to subscripe, level a toon to max, start raiding and have fun. If you get bored move to another game. This will take a couple of months and by that there might be Guild Wars II out, Mortal Online, Aion or whatever.
Btw this is half a necro.

Our guild encompasses both EQ2 and Vanguard. The folks that raid in both, almost to a person, agree that raiding is better in Vanguard. Not as much of it, but definitely better quality. There is more strategy and tactics involved with VG raiding, the entire APW story line is very interesting and well done, diplomacy, harvesting and crafting are interwoven into VG raiding very nicely and the variety of things different boss mobs will through at you in VG adds incredible variety.
Our guild has been in APW since it's release and we are just now approaching the Core. Yes, some hard core guilds are through it all already but most are still exploring and progressing. APW is huge with 19 major encounters and 13 mini-bosses. You can be in APW with 4-5 other guilds and never see each other all night.

Would agree, raiding in VG is very good and there are a lot of casual guilds still plowing through the content.

They are not adding it they are revamping it. POA has been in the game from day one but was broken in some parts.
I believe PoA is suppose to be released prior go GU7, which would mean in the next month or so. It also brings 24-man raid content and 6-man raid content. Should be an incredible addition to the game.

POA was initially a midlevel group dungeon, however, it was plagued with questing bugs and rendered unusable. Now POA is being revamped into a high level challenging Group unlocking a high level Raid dungeon. This is new High Level content in every sense of the word.
From the innuendo in SignusM's post, I'd say he's testing it on test atm and thoroughly enjoys it.
Yes, it is being tested by players secretly. Should be out soon(tm).

That`s what bi said didn`t i? you are repeating what i said in the first place. You don`t need to explain to me what POA is. I know what they are adding, having played VG from beta plus having 3 level 50 toons 3 ships and 3 t4 house plus 3 shadow hounds on all my toons i know what i am talking about.
They are not adding POA they are revamping it, am i right or wrong.
You forums are great aren't they. When thay are used for one of the good pruposes, people comes back and whines.
Noone said you was wrong or not, Raav was kind enough to detail it further from what you said. That is a good thing. These last two post (mine included) is not a good thing.
I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.
"You have the right not to be killed"
raiding is pretty nice, the raid area is pretty large and fun to do, strat vary from various mobs and some enc are quite challenging... a new area is incoming so there will be more fun... but is not all positive...
recently devs moved overland mobs from lockout (every guild can kill boss once a week) to contested (mob repop every 3 days)
with the few raid targets of vg this is quite bad and imo is impacting quite badly both the community and the various guilds... it also impact hard the smaller guild that have no hope to do these mobs anymore and generally is a change that no one asked and very few likes
lets hope devs will change their mind about this as it was also rumored that the new area should be totally contested
Agreed, I am not fond of the changes they made to the overland raid mobs. We've taken them off our schedule completely for now, which is really a bummer since these are really fun encounters.
