Darkfall by the end of the year? I highly doubt it. theres no release date set and every mmo release date gives ample time from when they announce the release date to when that date arrives. its 10/6/08 now so I dont see them releasing it in 08. If a date is not set by the end of october then I can guarntee you wont see Darkfall in 08.
They've gone through a lot of "beta soon!" stuff in past years. Now, though, they've finally started making concrete promises and so far they've been delivering on them:
They're already hardware testing. AoC was still hardware testing in open beta, two weeks before launch. There's plenty of time for the anticipated release date. More beta entrances should be about two weeks away.
Meanwhile, I'm not a big tolkien-based-fantasy fan, esp. since orks/elves have been overdone (this idea was pre-wow release so I can't fault them for sticking to it) but the game and the three factions in it look like they'll trump any concerns I have about the world.
(EDIT)
Didn't know about pre-cu! I can't find my old disks! Be really surprised if it takes me less than 2 hours to find them tonight.
Where can I find more information on it? Most of the information from this game I see in people's forums that actually have no affiliation with the game. I haven't seen any real information on their site, it's pretty skant.

That's how it's always been, don't bother with it until it's released and there's reviews, until that happens it's vaporware.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.
These days you shouldn't bother with ANY new MMO until it's at least 6 months old and has gone through it's initial server merges. Which has happened to virtually every MMO released in the last 2 years.
well some of us like playing mmo's eventually all of us mmo'ers will find one that were willing to stick with and grow with. I really hate staring an MMO late. I dont know why either but if I dont start on release then I just cant get into the game.
Waiting for:EQ-Next, ArcheAge (not so much anymore) Now Playing: N/A Worst MMO: FFXIV Favorite MMO: FFXI

I used to be the same way but then I got burned by AoC and WAR. I'm never preordering a mmo again.

I'm so cynical about MMO publishers that I am NOT willing to invest my money, or more importantly TIME into an inmature game that doesnt' have a track record of success, consisetency, and a concrete future direction, even if it initially is the "game of my dreams".
Got lured into that with SWG Pre CU. It was the game of my dreams. It was even supposedly mature, being over 2 years old when I started it. Yet I faced not one but TWO massive changes within a year which changed the game into one unrecognizable to the one I started.
You seriously only just found out about Darkfall?! This game has been in development for 7 years!! Throughout all of that time people have been arguing about it on this website.......thats 7 years of nonstop conversation about the game.........and you just heard about it? lol

What he said.
First, if the game actually launches, I might look at it. After 3-6 monthes of looking at what people have to say about this game, I might buy it. Darkfall and the company that has been making it, have been revamped/reorganized so many times, that I'll believe something about this game, when it actually hits the streets.
Fallen Earth looks to be a much better fit for many of us that enjoyed Pre-CU. Good crafting, skill based, non instanced world, sci-fi. It is in closed alpha now and will be release early next year. Even if Darkfall ends up being good, it is just another Fantasy MMO... and not something that different.

Eh I'm a bit skeptical about Darkfall, it seems you get the sandbox at the expense of crappy gameplay, from what I've seen in videos.
