Deep with many possiblities and choises of feats skills and talents character development system so each player could build the avatar he dreams off . Thats one of the best addiction factors in an role playing game .
Hundrends of thousands random created items diablo like gear/loot system. I always hated the idea : gee in which boss this item drops? This thingie can make a normal routine grinding procedure far more intresting, and ofc raids also since u know that each boss will drop 2-3 epiq items but no idea what items will be.
Random created dungeons/raids instances with a huge boss pool variety in eahc instance so each time u play an instance it wont look the same making instances less boring.
Weapons range : polearm 3 metres reach for example ,2 handed swords 2 m , short swords 0.5 m e.t.c. giving also a tactical sense to the use of weapons apart the casual hmm what dps this weapon has.
Huge world to explore ,nice design outdoors areas with many things to discover giving back to the players the missing fewling of good old days adventuring we so much are missing nowdays in the current mmo's in market ,delete instanced areas ( good example to avoid is AOC).
Well organised and builded open pvp mass battles ( good example to avoid is WAR) . Arena system also seems a great pvp target being an ultimate chalenge of skils to hone your talent in instanced pvp type ( good example to copy/paste is wow' arena system )
An extremely carefully created combat system that will reward skill and tactical minds and not the just the gear u carry and just spaming some skills ( good example to avoid is the combat systems that most games use so far wow, war e.t.c. best example to copy/paste is oblivion 's combat system )
The ability to claim castles build keeps claim the title of baron ,count and similar titles that grand u the possesion of castles e.t.c. that will give u an income through taxes and ofc which u should defend from other other players that would want to claim your castle . Also claiming titles that varrying to many aspects of game diplomacy e.t.c.
All the mixes of the above factors i mention if u put em together u r making a game for everyone 's taste i think and most of those i mention are missing from the current mmo's .
Wish some day an mmo will fulffill if not all at least most of those and logging in to your character would be a really fun and excitment move and not just an other day of grinding /farming gear, honor, ranking ,gold

Magic of the Gods has some of that.

You can create new skills in MotG. One player wanted to be a ranger, but there was nothing in the game for that so he created a skill to let him command animals and have them help him fight. Then he got the Prince of Azmar to give him a title as High Ranger of Azmar. Now he's a ranger. His character is an elf named Thaero. I think he's the only ranger, but there was talk of the Azmar Army recruiting a whole force of rangers.

Drops are totally unpredictable unless you see the enemy holding the item. But it works differently than Diablo. There's really not the usual combat grind anyway.

There are no instances. Creatures don't usually respawn at all so things are never the same. It also means that if you clear the monsters out of an area, it matters. After that, people can settle there and built houses and stuff. If it remains unsettled for a long time monsters might come back, but not the same ones.

I think they have that in MotG, but I'm not sure.

I can't tell how big the world is because lots of it is hard to get to and the game devs say some of it hasn't even been discovered by players yet. Also they are adding more. That sounds good, but the places you can easily get to are sort of large, but not huge.

There are battles. I haven't been in one yet so I can't tell you what they are like, but everyone who was in them seemed very excited about it. PvP is totally open. On the forums the game devs say there is an arena in the underworld (the land of the dead), but i haven't been there because I've never died

I can't tell how well done the combat system is. I have heard that at the Battle of Sheep Island, Lord Garon's Army won because of their good tactics if that tells you anything.

Yes, all that. That's the main thing that attracted me to Magic of the Gods. I have already claimed five islands. I named them the Radnarian Isles after my character, Radnar. Now that name appears on the in-game map! I don't have a castle yet, but my islands are now a separate kingdom called the Kingdom of Radnaria. There is at least one castle (Azmar Castle) and at least one fortified city that looks like a castle (Stondar City). I haven't seen much of the world yet because it's not easy to get to all of it. At this point, I'm more worried about staying alive so I can keep my islands and the fact that I have ogres and a powerful Dwarf kingdom on my borders and my army is like only three people so far. The only reason I got away with claiming those islands is because no other realm had claimed them yet. There are other islands nearby that are still not claimed. If they were closer to my kingdom I'd claim them.

The thing about MotG is that it tries to be all those things, but it's made by an indie developer group and it shows. We all know the big corporations have no interest in that kind of thing. So it's unfinished. The graphics are like EQ1. I wouldn't have even kept playing except that they said they were still adding things all the time. Now I see that the game does change all the time. They are improving it and you can talk to the developers on the forums or by e-mail and their idea for what they want the game to be is a lot like what I had in mind for the ultimate sandbox game. Somewhat like your idea, too. So I figure that even though it's kind of weak now, it's definitely entertaining, it's free and I'm getting in on the ground floor where I get to claim land and become a king just because I got there before anyone else claimed the islands.
If things keep going this way, eventually, it could be the greatest sandbox game ever and I'll rule a kingdom in it. If anyone reading this decides to try it out, join the Kingdom of Radnaria! We're the only human kingdom in the known world so far.
