Cannoneer comes from a lvl 87 quest. It's slightly better then an artilleryman in dmg health and defense.

Let me give you a comparison or the two for you have to a rough estimate if it is worth it to use a cannonner over an artillery man.

    Stat     Artilleryman    Cannoneer

    Str         200                230

    Dex       160                 190

    Def       200                  220

    Int        220                  240

    Vit        210                 224

    M.Def  275                 280

    Now with spells:

    Artillery Man:

    -Deep insight

    -Deadly Shot

    -Chaos Wind(Hero)

    Cannoneer:

    -Smoke Bomb

These info can also be found in "Game Info" then "Mercenary"

If what you meant by where can you see the stats that i posted, you can check ingame. It is found by clicking on the [Game Info] which is the second button located on the upper left hand side of the game window then click on Mercenary.

You use the Mercenry information window by clicking on the weapon of the merc type you want to check then the merc name. ie, the cannon icon the you see two mercs there, artilleryman and cannoneer. So you simply click on which one you want to see.

Another way is going to the atlantica website and clicking on the mercenary on the navigational bar at the left side.

I find artillerymen to be mediocre in PVE. Although they have great AoE, they do pretty bad damage, and can't hit air. I still think a gunner is a better ranged character than the artilleryman, especially after you get chaos wind and other powerful gunner spells.

I hired artilleryman for one reason.. for stunning purposes... artilleryman is one of the mercenary that has a high percentage of stunning the enemy.. not just one but he can stun  numbers of enemy so it is easy for me to nuke them out...

once you get an artilleryman to lvl 50 and get him to the next rank his deep insight skill will hit a whole group of enemies. not only does it do decent dot dmg but it shows your enemies health which means you dont need health check licenses anymore. also for a ranged merc they have fairly high HP. And tho other mercs may have higher dmg. A dead merc will always = 0 dmg.

Artillerymen on their own won't deal massive damage, but I agree that they stun a lot because they hit a LOT of units. After using one for some time, I realize that the artilleryman's strength is not that it can deal massive single target damage, but that it can hit multiple units all at once. The stun is one of its strengths, and it can take out a lot of weakened units at once. Don't expect it to deal massive damage though.
