questing and grind

phantomrileyphantomriley Member Posts: 45

I was curious about how early levels are working out in eq2. From other mmorpgs that learned from eq1's mistakes, had many quests or crafting bits to help new people advance quickly. Or will this be the same as eq1 where the early levels will rely on hack and slash. Daoc did a great job changing the leveling aspect to ooportunistic, either group or quest for your xp.

    from reading many beta journal's and Q&A's. i have seen that a lot of your xp will rely heavily on quests. i havent played it yet, but what i have read (beta journal's), has pointed out that quests give lots of xp usually in conjunction with an item reward.

    Some deep-rooted part of me wishes there was a quest with a big red button that, when pushed, spits out a little food pellet for me to eat. Then I could do that over and over and over...

    LOL! That's pretty funny. I hate the level grind too. I wish there was a game that was action packed and dynamic without a level grind.

    Other Beta testers have indicated that you can go from levels 1 to 12 witout swinging a weapon.  Might not be fun in my books but it certainly indicates the strength of the experience you can get from questing only.

    I wouldn't be surprised if you can go much higher in level from questing alone.

    Im sure questing will have a big part of EQ2, Im positive...cuz that was a huge complaint for EQ and all other mmorpg's are now offering another option to killing millions of the same mob to level a character 1 level.
    DAOC did this so well. that is a great game, I hope SOE learned a lot from Mythic.

    After thinking more about this subject I couldnt agree more. Putting more experience emphasis on questing really provides the player with a significant increase in means to advance (level) througout the game.  This is very good news.  As stated above DAoC did this well, I can only imagine EQ2 doing it better.

    I personally enjoy the hunting and, to a point, grinding.  However, knowing that the quest alternative is there along with what seems to be a significant re-think on the crafting/artisan effort to gain experience it appears SOE has made a better game beyond graphics quality alone.

    Looking forward to getting in the world!!!

    Its good to hear that its going to play a bit part of the game. Unfortunately we cant have beta players post here and explain.

    Ill be questing quite a bit and hope its easy enough to fond others willing to join the questing.

    The game is called EverQUEST after all ::::39::

    I also like the diversity in levelling ... for me it seems perfectly normal to continue to increase one's knowledge, strength, experiences, growth... isn't that true to life? And I personally like to play a game that I can completely immerse myself in and feel I can continue to grow.

    You can go 1-50 without swinging a weapon if you want, it goes like this...

    /ooc lvl <lvl> <class> lfg

    <get in group>

    <follow them around and do nothing>

    <repeat>

    You can do pretty much what ever you want at low levels. They give you a lot of options. You can explore, you can solo, you can group, you can quest. They all actually work vey well and some times mix and match. I prefer Questing and Grouping but there are times when i just feel like killing a few on my own.

    Well the raid system is obviously very well put together. I like it much more then WoW. Eq2 hasnt confirmed that there will be no PvP, they just said no pvp at launch. So maybe there is hope for Pvp. I think that Everquest 2 will be for the hardcore players, and WoW for the little kid noobies. Also you should really check out EQ2's guild system and crafting. It makes it so you will not only level in you main proffestion, but others too.

    Everquest 2 for the WIN!

    EQ2 is going to be really unfinished at rerlease. SOE is terrible. Everclay stinks. For your own good, get WoW

    Nice objective view Saigonshakes (/sarcasm).  From what I have read on various sites the questing system in EQ2 sounds pretty cool to me.  Even tho all the classes end up at the same end result, the varying methods that each class must accomplish their tasks sounds cool.

    ahahahah, hohoh, hehee, ahheheahhahhh.....ok sorry, i've finished now....whaaahahahahahaha, no I just can't hold it together.  DAOC did quests well and didn't make you kill millions of the same mob to level? we must have played very different versions of the game then.

    Um WoW is actually far from finished, compared to EQ2.  I mean they're still implementing main game mechanics and they're already taking beta sign ups!    If you're going to promote WoW atleast have the facts straight.

    NO MMO is ever completely finished on release, its just not humanly possible.  Unless you want to take 5 years to test everything out, which no company can afford to do.

    The EQ2 team have confirmed no PVP for launch and none for the forseeable future.  They have talked in depth now about designing a game from the ground up for either PVE or PVP.  They chose PVE.

    If you feel that EQ2 will be for the 'hardcore' (whatever that is supposed to mean) and that you yourself fit into that catagory then please enjoy your PVE and stop posting rubbish on the WoW boards.  I will be joining the 'little kid noobies' because I always see the PVE as a fun and enjoyable way to improve your character for PVP.

    I was an ardent EQ and EQ2 fan, then they announced the lack of PVP and while i'll take a look after launch I simply refuse to join in with the 'lets hold hands and hunt for items' style game SOE values so much.

    Have you played both? From the people i've talked to that have you may be in for a shock.  Lets just see how forth coming SOE are with open beta.  They didn't learn from their mistakes with SWG and, well, I don't have faith that they will here either.

    EQ2 is slated for the same release as WoW, they are taking beta signups (or were) and they are still implimenting 'main game mechanics'.  I don't understand what you are basing your opinion on.
