Griffins as Transportation

Looks like the rumors of griffins as the public transportation system are true (maybe I missed confirmation of this before). They've got a blurb and pictures at the EQ2 site.

Was hoping for something more unique and not so close to WoW; I really liked playing the stress test beta of WoW and riding its various animals and vehicles.

But, I'm sure it'll be fun to fly the unfriendly skies of Norrath, too. image Obviously the griffins look much different than those of WoW.

It's all good, though.

    This was said a few days ago, when MMORPG put up the images of it. Also I don't see it as copying off of WoW. Everquest has had griffons in the game since the game came out years ago. Different types but you could only fight against them.

    yes they were in the original everquest (you could only fight them, like effect said). also you dont get to control them, they just take you from point a to point b. but there are other mounts that you can buy like horses and such.

    Ahh, so they are like the horses in DAoC.. Where you just get on them and ride them from point A to point B..

     

    I know with the horses in DAoC, you could hop off at any point.. I wonder if you can do that with the griffins, or if you could be hit with a ranged weapon while riding on one...  If you can be hit while riding one, that will make for some interesting play when PvP comes out....

    As far I know, you're 'out of the world' when riding a griffin, same as WoW. Meaning you can't interact, or be interacted with.

    Yeah, looks like you can check inventory, chat and that type of thing but you're not going to be killed by a roaming dragon that's hell-bent on your destruction. image

    Here is a download from a german site that illistrates griffin riding in EQ2. It looks like he had his settings on low res.
