I was playing WAR and the graphics made me want to try LotRO and it's so much more polished and everything that I am thinking of cancelling my WAR account. Even WoW or GW have better PvE. So if you are dissapointed by the lack of people in groups ect try LotRO or something it has a similiar feel and people actually talk and look for groups ect. Plus it's been out longer so it much more polished. In addition it has a Deed system ect and you unlock things like you do in the ToK... plus next month an expansion is coming out to add even more content.
I guess I got to thinking... why even make WAR an MMO or even have a PvE side. Why not just make it an online table top type of war game.
Obviously if you're more into PvP or RvR as it is called in WAR than LotRO is not for you. **This basically to the people dissapointed in the PvE.**
And before you flame away I know WAR was made with RvR in mind but that doesn't mean PvE should suck. Otherwise they never should have created an MMO in the first place. I really like WAR and I tried really really hard to enjoy it and defended left and right.. maybe in a few months I will see how it's progressed but I'd have to say LotRO is where it's at right now. You can flame me but I think i have some points.

Anything has better PVE than WAR. PVE in war is absolutely meaningless. there is no story, there is no sense of acomplishment and it's overall just doing the same stupid kill quests over and over. I WOW PVE is still fun and gives a sense of acomplishment even after leveling 3 characters to 70 (on my 4th one now).
As for PVP, WOW BGs are still way more fun that WAR BGs. In war it's down to who has the highest level players, In WOW, it actually takes skill and strategy to beat the other teams and many times I've seen high level groups beaten by lower level groups because they had more skill. In WAR it's just a zergfest. This keeps wow fun and challenging, where as WAR is just the same thing over and over again. There's no sense of individuality, no sense of making any difference and it's just no fun. I took the advice from all the Warhammer fanbois and I went back to WOW and I'm haveing a blast. I didn't care for LOTRO, but i would probably subscibe to that over WArhammer if I had to chose between the two. They at least put some work into PVE.
How so, I wonder?
I just say, with a group of 4-5 people. Doing PQ's in WAR is my best PvE experience so far ever.
Theese things are amazing, they are all very unique and actually makes me feel like PvE is something NEW!
When you guard the dwarves from cave spiders so they can hack gold and the other players take turns in depositing the sacks.
Or when you fight bands of cold-one riders only to see a giant dragon come down from the sky and then battle it!
Or when you kill the annoying squigs around the giants feet to be able to see him carry a giant mine over to a door and blow himself up.
Yeah, PQ's are easily my best experience. Ofc some are worse than others, but they are there, just have to find them

Tried Lotro, looked nice but was just so boring. Some of the enviroments were gorgeous, but the character models were crap and I thought the animations were rigid. Just didn't really get the feel for it I guess. Oh, and the "pvp" was dreadful.
That said, i think its a pretty solid game, but very middle of the road.
Probably worth getting the trial before buying it.
WAR's pve does lack mystery, and surprise, and I personally would say story to it, unlike other mmo's that have pulled it off good. But of course WAR is more focused on RvR most people will argue.
PQ's would be great, if people were actually playing in them.
I quit LoTR when I realised that I needed to kill another 250 wolves to get a trait; each wolf was taking about 5 mins. I don't mind a bit of a grind, but that game was crazy.
Take PvMP, great fun as a monster, up until you realise that it going to take months to get the next level; and for me that was only rank 4!
Don't get me wrong, good game and excellent look; however leveling and questing (and getting traits) is so much work, it feels like work.
On the other hand, there's so much to do in WAR, I haven't really been noticing the amount of effort/time to get a level.
Yeah this is one of the lamer threads ive read.
with all the lore missing from the lotro, the lack of the ability to play the evil side, the fact that only a few of the classes touch on the lore characters and "classes" , nothing ot me felt more incomplete as a mmo than lotro, despite its polish.
and in the end, lotro is just like all the other pve grind games
at least war brings to the table the ablility to pve and RvR to level.
also i think the OP is forgetting that the warhammer lore is applied to the game, its everywhere.
really one of the weakest troll threads ive seen here.
This got to be the most ironic thing i have ever read, because no game is more repeatative and requires less skill than wow's pvp, if you never got a rank14 character in vanilla wow, you will never know what i pointing at when i say repeatative, atleast war dosnt have the same SC's (bg's) from lvl 10-end game.. there is atleast variations.. wow dosnt have mutch else than 4 bgs and the world pvp dosnt exist.
both these games, requires 0 player skills.. its all about gear, and a private healer with healbot addons.

Yeah, the math does not add up.
WOW BGs 5 total. WAR has 12 SC before you get to end game (3 Tier 1, 3 Tier 2, 6 Tier 3) and 6 to choose from at end game. (5 vs 18 overall) And in WOW, you do not get access to any until level 10, they do not even try to level the playing field (WAR does on Core servers, bringing you to the "8" level in the bracket, not to mention they designed the game from moment one to scale as you level, so your abilities do improve to match while in the SC) All I see in WOW are groups of twinks battering casuals (WAR that is evntually impossible do to leveling in the SCs). I have never seen a "good co-ordinated" group in WOW beat out a high level group (because of the Twinking)
Sorry, cannot agree with you here on this.
Have a good night
The epic questline in LOTRO is imo better than any PVE I have ever done. The dungeons are very nicely done as well. Other than those 2 things the PVE is way worse than WAR. Wait until you start doing deeds in the game every mob you see in game you will have to kill hundreds of them. Hope you like trolls because there are probably 100 deeds to kill them and you need a group to kill them.
As far as PVE conent goes there is alot but I often have my quest log filled with group quests I can never get done. The monster play is a matter of opinion although I love the idea of getting a max level guy to do PVP with as I am tired of leveling toons. LOTRO hit a homerun with the epic quests but deed grinding killed the game for me. I couldnt stand grinding for hours for minor stat increases.
Hope you like killing boars south park would have been more accurate killing boars in LOTRO than in WOW.
Edit- Also one last thing the fellowship manuevers were awesome to me atleast and would love to see them in other games.

Just a couple of questions for ya.
Have you found and done any lairs in War yet? Or the mid level dungeon?
I agree with the group quest thing. It's one of the silent things I think WAR did right. Make PvE solo and put the group activities in the PQs/Dungeons/Lairs/RvR.
And agreed. The group skill mechanic (fellowship maneuvers) was one hell of an inspiration.
Have a good night!
I too love the fellowship maneuvers. I loved it when your whole group cooperated and did teh fellowship maneuver just right and got exactly what they wanted from it.
I give no mercy
This has to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. WAR is down to who has the highest level and WOW isn't............WAR is a zergfest and WOW isn't........
Since I doubt you have a level 40 character in WAR, how about we compare the WAR low-tier PvP to WoW's low level PvP? Make a character and level it to lets say....19? Let's see how YOU handle the twinks (Considering you're not one yourself) with all the crazy enchants. Let's see how your "skill" handles those.
Come on, man.
How so, I wonder?
Both games featured a wider variety of different skills and abilities. In contrast, WoW classes were more focused around one or two specific abilities. The Turbine Engine seems pretty notorious for the floaty feel of its avatars, and its quite clear that WAR's characters don't feel as grounded in their environment as WoW.

I couldn't have said it better myself. Here's this for another example, get yourself T4 geared or even S2 geared and go attack someone that spent all his time getting S4 gear of the same class even, and see if your "Skill" can beat him.

This was abotu the pvE... I see most agree and as I said they both have a very similar feel as far as look and gameplay and design if you have played both of them which i have i am subscribed to both.
I will agree though the PQs are amazing there is no denying that but the pvE isn't that great.. other than getting a bunch of stuff to read in you ToK.
And to the person who asked if we've been in any of the dungeons in WAR... i think few people have considering the lack of people grouping together ect.
I like this game... read my previous posts about the game... but I'm just dissapointed and it's become obvious that it's all about PvE and thus I don't think this should have been an MMO in the first place.
It would have been better as an Online tablet top version or something of the such.
Yeah I don't know. I keep an eye on lotro and check it every once in a while, but I just don't find the fun in culling the wildlife. I'm sure there's plenty interesting quests once you level up, but it feels so damn tedious and boring when every yahoo wants you to kill a bunch of animals instead of doing something worthy of the license.
Also, oddly I've had more fun in WAR's pve compared to many other pve centric games. Go figure.
I've played LoTR very little, so i can't really comment on the gameplay. The little i did play of it was pretty good though. Lucky for me I'm one of the people that snatched a lifetime membership, so i can pick it up and play anytime i like.....just gotta remember my login info......

LotRO is definetly more polished than WAR. It's also been out for a long time now, so that's hardly a surprise. It's also a PvE game, so it'll necessarily have to have more PvE content than WAR. That said it was quite lackluster in high-level content when it first came out, but I understand they've added more, and of course the first expansion is coming out november. So yeah, if you want a polished PvE game, LotRO is fine. I enjoyed my brief stay there, but ultimately I found it was too much like "that other game", which I'd done to death already, so I didn't stick around. I'd say WAR and LotRO have quite different feels, though.
Oh ya, i know that "Done to death" feeling too. The main reason i've stayed with WoW more than any other game thus far is simply because everyone that i knew IRL was also playing. I just can't sit down and play a game that noone i know is actually playing and play for any decent length of time. Me not being the most sociable person in the world i also can't just yell out in general chat looking to group with any random people. Playing MMO's with people you know personally just has a much better experiance than otherwise. If more of my friends were playing EVE or EQ or LotR then i'm sure those would have been games that i'd still be playing to this date rather than WoW.

Initially WAR and LotRO do seem similar. But you soon realise that WAR has far more to it gameplay-wise. LotRO looks nice and tells a familar story to fans of Tolkien, but it has pretty drab gameplay. Nothing to it. WAR is a much better game.
As to the point about PvE, there are much better PvE games out there. To be honest, out of all the MMOs I've played, LotRO is the most shallow.
Yeah, Lotro has good PvE, is pollished and really immersion stimulating. But somewhere along the line I jumped off the wagon ... once you get a taste for PvP blood you can't play an mmo without it. (And 'monsterplay' is a joke on that regard).
War gives me the ballance between the two that I prefer. (If only T3 scenario's would pop-up now and then *sighs*)
My brand new bloggity blog.
So let me get this right....OP is comparing a PVE Game (LOTRO) to a PVP Game (WAR) And claiming the PVE games PVE is better than the PVP games PVE.
OP must be a flucking genious. Sad part is...LOTRO's pve is not that much better if any.
I am a LotrO player who also likes WAR... but I agree that the PvE in WAR is extremly boring and lacks any form of immersion... thankfully you can level by just doing PvP so Im sticking to that... (and this is from a long time Warhammer player).. and I think its pretty funny that WAR players complain about LotrOs PvMP since the games are very simillar in its RvR just that WAR does it on a MUCH larger scale.. (zerg vs zerg ftw)
and about LotrO being grindy... I would say that LotrO and WAR is probably the MMOs with the least grinding.. sure you can grind all the traits in LotrO if you want to but its not like you are required to do any of that enjoy any of the end-game instances or PvP.. there is a grind but you are never forced to do it (unless you are one of thoose "I have to complet eEVERYTHING" persons)
If WoW = The Beatles
and WAR = Led Zeppelin
Then LotrO = Pink Floyd
You are comparing a PvE centric game with a PvP centric game here.
I mean isn't it obvious from a certain point of view that each game will be better in it's specified area?
I have played both games (Lotro more extensively since war is quite new) and I believe both are excellent products personally. Both these games are directed towards specific players..... One has excellent PvE ( quests at least are very well written) while offering elements of PvP (One limited PvP area which does the trick) . The other has excellent PvP ( I mean RvR is a new experience for me and I must say I'm very pleased) while offering elements of PvE ( The tome of Knowledge feature is very good and the setup generally does the trick)
One thing though which we should take under consideration......War is a new game.
We generally don't know the extend of PvE in War yet. I've heard stories of Heroes/ Lords hidden away in Lairs.Dungeons (although limited) which players havent visited yet Questlines being unlocked through Tome of Knowledge and exploration. Various things.......
Give the game some time to evaluate its PvE status (....same goes for PvP btw) but as it stands right now I believe War is offering adequate content towards the PvE fans.
