You are comparing a PvE centric game with a PvP centric game here. I mean isn't it obvious from a certain point of view that each game will be better in it's specified area? I have played both games (Lotro more extensively since war is quite new) and I believe both are excellent products personally. Both these games are directed towards specific players..... One has excellent PvE ( quests at least are very well written) while offering elements of PvP (One limited PvP area which does the trick) . The other has excellent PvP ( I mean RvR is a new experience for me and I must say I'm very pleased) while offering elements of PvE ( The tome of Knowledge feature is very good and the setup generally does the trick) One thing though which we should take under consideration......War is a new game. We generally don't know the extend of PvE in War yet. I've heard stories of Heroes/ Lords hidden away in Lairs.Dungeons (although limited) which players havent visited yet Questlines being unlocked through Tome of Knowledge and exploration. Various things....... Give the game some time to evaluate its PvE status (....same goes for PvP btw) but as it stands right now I believe War is offering adequate content towards the PvE fans.
You are making good points here. While I have enjoyed playing both LorRO and WAR, both bring a different game experience to the table. If I want to play against my fellow human beings, while cooperating with a group, WAR has the superior PvP/RvR gameplay mechanic. If I want to cooperate with a group to complete an epic PvE storyline, LotRO has the superior gameplay mechanic. Both games will let you grind if deed / Tome kill count unlocks are your idea of play fun. LotRO has a more involved crafting mechanic and economy. WAR has a more immersive sense of in your face peril. LotRO has a generally more immersive storyline, though the WAR storyline is certainly adequate for the task at hand. LotRO is a bit more sandbox, WAR is a bit more focused and linear.
All of this is a matter of personal taste. If the OP knows which of these games is more suitable to their personal enjoyment, then that is what the OP should be playing. There are no hard feelings from those of us who understand that these are just games for entertainment, and different people will enjoy different things.
this is just like comparing WAR to WoW. They are completely different games. One works promarily on PVE content with pvp as a sideshow. While the other uses pvp content and its focus.
Kinda Funny, I am more of a PvE. WAR has A LOT of PvE its a lot better then some. The storyline and quests are great compared to others (WoW, LoTR, EQII). Story lines are what make the game for me. There is only one game out there that has better storylines.
Yes I clearly stated I'm comparing a PvE game to game that focus on PvP and my whole point is. WAR should have just been PvP period. It clear that's where their focus is. They shouldn't even wasted their time and energy with an average at best yet sloppy at the moment PvE side with crafting and skills scattered about ect. It's not that great. I said I like the game. But I probably would have liked WAR better if it was what it always have been, a PvP battleground without all the leveling up ect.

Why?
A lot less people wouldn't like it. I wouldn't like it. I like the "good PvE" that has some PvP. Which is what WAR is. Sorry a total PvP game would suck. Its a great game and a lot of History (PvE) behind it plain and simple.
If you wanted a game that was pure PvP. That would be shadowbane.
WAR's pve does lack mystery, and surprise, and I personally would say story to it, unlike other mmo's that have pulled it off good. But of course WAR is more focused on RvR most people will argue. PQ's would be great, if people were actually playing in them.
Story is told via the Tom of Knowledge and PQ. Just go to War Story in the Tome. Also by the literallly hundreds of tome unlcoks. Have any of the people who say this bothered to read them? I doubt it.
There are thousands of hidden things, but they are tome unlocks or non-quest quest. Tell me how did you get the Black Toof? Or the Cloak of the Plumed Eye? Oh right they are hidden people never got them did they?
People do realize that tome unlocks give actual items in addition to titles and cosemetic stuff as well as XP?
The problem in not WAR PvE, although the quest grind is bad on low pop servers. The problem is people being narrow minded and stuck in WoW and thinking everything is about quests and dungeon instance grinds.
WAR pve does feel kinda boring or something, but then quests in most mmo's are boring. It's either grind xp by repetitve killing of mobs or doing quests.
PQ's are great when you can get a group together. Most are completely deserted though and last few days in T2 area there is no groups or one group of maybe 2 people. Not enough people for me.
WAR has some interesting things to offer and some great potential I think. Unfortunately I won't be around to experience it. Cancelled my account last night when after about 5 hours of play time, Order only won one scenario. That is just too extreme a ratio of win/lose for me to bear, so I will come back when and if something is done to improve it.
I was playing WAR and the graphics made me want to try LotRO and it's so much more polished and everything that I am thinking of cancelling my WAR account. Even WoW or GW have better PvE. So if you are dissapointed by the lack of people in groups ect try LotRO or something it has a similiar feel and people actually talk and look for groups ect. Plus it's been out longer so it much more polished. In addition it has a Deed system ect and you unlock things like you do in the ToK... plus next month an expansion is coming out to add even more content. I guess I got to thinking... why even make WAR an MMO or even have a PvE side. Why not just make it an online table top type of war game. Obviously if you're more into PvP or RvR as it is called in WAR than LotRO is not for you. **This basically to the people dissapointed in the PvE.** And before you flame away I know WAR was made with RvR in mind but that doesn't mean PvE should suck. Otherwise they never should have created an MMO in the first place. I really like WAR and I tried really really hard to enjoy it and defended left and right.. maybe in a few months I will see how it's progressed but I'd have to say LotRO is where it's at right now. You can flame me but I think i have some points.
Off course LOTRO is more polished, it's been out for 1 1/2 years. But PvE is not Wars strongest side, and that's what mythic intended.
Don't you mean: "PVE - what's the point?" Answer: There isn't any. Fighting ultra bad AI and scripted boss fights is not challenging nor fun for any halfway decent player. The only pertinent question now is: will Darkfall be the one to save us from this dumbed-down mediocrity?
Actually, just because you like a certain type of game play doesn't mean it's the only right way to play.
The point of doing anything in a MMMO is to have fun. If youre not having fun, then youre in the wrong game or the wrong place.
And unless you are a spawn camping griefer or ninja, no game play is wrong as long as your'e having fun.
i just wish the mobs in war didn't take forever to kill. i wish they'd double the attack speed across the board and make the pve quest mobs faster to kill. not necessarily "easier to defeat", just speed up the process. 30 seconds for a champion with a duo, far less than that for regular mobs.
i hate how in war my toon is a huge panzy against the evil monsters, and seems to win out by homering them to death (ie, being able to take more abuse) regardless of class.
Somehow this thread ended up comparing three very different games. Oh well, I'm just bored wnough to take it as it comes and add my comment.
LotRO: Grind is optional... lots of story driven, multiple part quests. You have to really like the world to want to do the chain quests, but there's absolutely no compulsion (not even much reason) to grind for traits. My problem with it is what one poster referred to as the "floaty" feel of the avatars. I never for one minute felt like my character was IN the world. And the animal animations in particular are not at all convincing. I had fun for a while, but felt no strong urge to log in. That said, I think it is a big step towards variety in quest style and writing (Wow is sometimes a little lazy in this regard... stop by the guy at the side of the road on the way to the first inn you can rest at to pick up the fish/beer/whatever to deliver, no matter which starting area you're in), and for fans of Tolkien it's a fun thing just to explore the world.
WAR: not enough to hold me for a subscription. To me WAR seems like a sport more than a game. Oddly, ended up being more reminded of console multiplayer in spirit than an mmo. I personally think that the only truly meaningful PvP I've ever seen is in Eve, and I loathe Eve, because it's just so cold and corporate. You can't deny that they have a world where PvP has persistent effects, at least some of it does. But my OPINION is that PvP is more boring in the long run than its diehard supporters ever want to admit. I kinda think if you get off on logging in cay after day to capture the same crap, fight the same fight over and over... well... happy for ya, just not that interesting.
Wow: hate all you want, it has strengths which no other game has matched yet: art DESIGN, not just pretty backgrounds and shiny, detailed but lifeless models (Blizzard understood that the current state of the art means that the more detail, the more "realism" in human and animal models, the less convincing will be their expression and motion - many on mmorpg simply will not accept this reality); avatars that are utterly grounded in their environments, never feel like they are taped on; huge variety in possible approaches to the game, with a well developed class system (I will never understand those who say it's not complex, I have been playing since release, and haven't touched many possible ways of playing it); professions that create useful items for anyone except those who are obsessed with having purple dropped gear to show off; humor and a spirit of fun, not ponderous grade B fantasy writing; a vast and diverse community, all you gotta do is put the ignorant on ignore, be friendly, and sift through the server for the friends you need to have fun.
Flame away at will, it's just words in cyberspace.

Evolved Monkey: Firstly, PvE can mean just as much thinking, if you take on mobs or bosses when they are still very difficult for your level, and if you are interested in the way different classes and abilities and groupings can respond to the same challenges. Secondly, PvE, of whatever quality, is written content, and has at least the potential for a sense of story, whereas PvP is the same schoolyard fight again and again. You are "thinking and adapting" about how to "pwn" whoever, no one is creating anything, or consuming created content. So, yeah, it's boring TO ME, because I don't care about whether I can beat other people, that's the key issue here. I'm not saying one's better, I'm saying PvP is more like sports and less like interactive fiction. One satisfies a certain bent, the other does not. All the carebear talk, the "you're stupid because you like PvE" talk, is a refusal to acknowledge your own motivations, and instead drape a flag of personal superiority over them.
This was abotu the pvE... I see most agree and as I said they both have a very similar feel as far as look and gameplay and design if you have played both of them which i have i am subscribed to both. I will agree though the PQs are amazing there is no denying that but the pvE isn't that great.. other than getting a bunch of stuff to read in you ToK. And to the person who asked if we've been in any of the dungeons in WAR... i think few people have considering the lack of people grouping together ect. I like this game... read my previous posts about the game... but I'm just dissapointed and it's become obvious that it's all about PvE and thus I don't think this should have been an MMO in the first place. It would have been better as an Online tablet top version or something of the such.
The reason I asked about dungeons and Lairs is they too are part of the PvE experience that few have spent time actually exploring/doing. It is obvious that you have spent conciderable time enjoying the PvE in LotR, but have not fully explored all the different type of content in WAR. Not trying to hammer you, just want a fair comparison. Yes, dungeons do need a group and start at Tier 2, but the Lairs there are 24 in the game, some even in Tier one that only needs 2-3 people, some are combat, some are puzzle, others require skill (Gah! Tomb Raider!) and definitly a different feel to them. (Can't you tell I am a content hound/explorer?)
If you want, I can send directions to some of them, just let me know.
Anything has better PVE than WAR. PVE in war is absolutely meaningless. there is no story, there is no sense of acomplishment and it's overall just doing the same stupid kill quests over and over. I WOW PVE is still fun and gives a sense of acomplishment even after leveling 3 characters to 70 (on my 4th one now). As for PVP, WOW BGs are still way more fun that WAR BGs. In war it's down to who has the highest level players, In WOW, it actually takes skill and strategy to beat the other teams and many times I've seen high level groups beaten by lower level groups because they had more skill. In WAR it's just a zergfest. This keeps wow fun and challenging, where as WAR is just the same thing over and over again. There's no sense of individuality, no sense of making any difference and it's just no fun. I took the advice from all the Warhammer fanbois and I went back to WOW and I'm haveing a blast. I didn't care for LOTRO, but i would probably subscibe to that over WArhammer if I had to chose between the two. They at least put some work into PVE.
Sorry but I would lke to have some of what you're having :P
PVE in WAR and WoW is pretty similar quest wise.
Nobody who's serious about levelling their char in either game doesn't read all the quests but the story's there in both.
PVP in WoW doesn't require strategy
Ever got trainwrecked by an AB group full of Brutal warriors and resto druids? Nice strats. lol

PvP boring? PvE fun? How is a random experience boring compared to a static simplistic script?
Maybe thinking and adapting ones strategy is boring to you, thats okay. Doing the same thing against a unintelligent computer is boring to me.
