Gov. Sarah Palin abused her power in a state official's firing but did not violate the law, an Alaska legislative panel finds.

From CNN. Thing is how is this not breaking a law?

    www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10/10/palin.investigation/index.html

"Ahead of Friday's hearing, Palin supporters wearing clown costumes and carrying balloons denounced the hearing as a "kangaroo court" and a "three-ring circus" led by supporters of Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential candidate."

The only Circus I see is the republician party...............FAIL!

Page 8. finding number two: "In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of commissioner Monegan was a PROPER and LAWFUL exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire branch department heads."

It looks like her husband has lied while testifying as well. Two days ago, he said that he never pressured any state officials to fire the trooper, but today he says that he doesn't regret what he did because the man is a "rogue trooper."

"Palin's husband, Todd, attempted to shoulder much of the blame for the pressure Monegan faced after refusing to fire Wooten; in a statement to the investigation on Wednesday he said: "I make no apologies for wanting to protect my family and wanting to publicise the injustice of a violent trooper keeping his badge."

Congratulations, you just lied while testifying.

She learned the hard, hard way how impossible it is to fire a cop.

A lot of you young people should consider a career as a state trooper.  It is total job security.

  • PrecusorPrecusor Member UncommonPosts: 3,589

That trooper should have been fired or jailed along time ago for TAZERING a 10 year old child..

This is interesting, a symbiotic dance that both Obama and Palin are in.  What happens to one, happens to the other.  Keyan Connection and Trooper Gate all in the same day.  Fascinating.

The report (thanks for the link Precusor) may not have much damaging effect since there is no broken laws involved, other than an interpretation of an abuse of power.  Which is going to lead to another investigation...

I like how ABC News has, "SARAH PALIN UNLAWFULLY ABUSED HER AUTHORITY."

But yet no laws were broken.

    And that is why...

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

Republican: Obama consorts with unrepentant terrorists who plotted to destroy America and the capitalistic system.

Obamabot: Oh yeah, well Palin tried to force a guy to fire a guy who tasered a little kid.

The mastermind behind it all is Ron Paul. He thinks he can still be President.

And for those who are to dense, that was a joke.

I still think this is funny that anyone would remotely question the fact that this guy needed to be fired. Okay  the officer he was supposed to fire was drinking in his patrol car  and used a Taser on a child? well if his boss didn't fire him yea his boss sure as hell should have been fired. LMAO! Does anyone here think that we should have our officers drunk and tasering children?  seriously WTH?

    Its a political witch hunt.

    community.adn.com/adn/node/132565#Comments_Container

    Finding Number One

For the reasons explained in section IV of this report, I find that Governor Sarah Palin abused her power by violating Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) of the Alaska Executive Branch Ethics Act. Alaska Statute 39.52.110(a) provides

The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.

    Finding Number Two

I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Michael Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.

    Finding Number Three

Harbor Adjustment Service of Anchorage, and its owner Ms. Murleen Wilkes, handled Trooper Michael Wooten's workers' compensation claim property and in the normal course of business like any other claim processed by Harbor Adjustment Service and Ms. Wilkes. Further, Trooper Wooten received all the workers' compensation benefits to which he was entitled.

    Finding Number Four

The Attorney General's office has failed to substantially comply with my August 6, 2008 written request to Governor Sarah Palin for infomration about the case in the form of emails.

    It's a polltical witch hunt.

Being conducted by a majority Republican commission.

Note finding number four, and the date.  Well before Palin was thrust into the national spotlight.

    lol @ the republican meltdown

man.. cant you guys get a grip on this liberal media?  what lies will they print next?

McCain needs to look for a new running mate. Not this half-whit ex-beauty queen who installs tanning beds in the governers mansion, hires inexperienced high-school friends to do government jobs and fires people because they screwed over her family.

I think this incident would provide a great opportunity (or spin depending on your view point) for the McCain/Palin campaign to use.  Rather than fight it, use it.  Since Palin broke no laws (key point), Palin could be made as a woman who doesn't take crap and will take action if if no one else will.

    A quick example...

"I may have gone out of bounds, but let me tell you about this Trooper and how no one was going to do anything about it.  ... Now, do you want a leader who will sit idly by, testing the winds of the public opinion, or someone who will take quick and decisive action."

    And that is why...

Uhm- that Obama ties to Kenya comes from World Net Daily.  A bunch of right-wing conspiracy nut assholes.  Take one look at the gay bashing in there, don't it just exude the confidence of good, honest media?

Another thing the Obama ties to Kenya are just that, ties.  Call me when Obama is actually caught with a hand in the cookie car...  Which is exactly what happened to Palin today.

Oh sure- ppl will say it's a normal, lawful exercise of her office- but not when it's politically motivated... and Im pretty sure that AG, Gonzales lost his job over something quite similar...

Hannity is part of an organization that, from its inception, was conceived and built as a propaganda organ in the tradition of TASS and Xinhua.  Hannity wouldn't know actual journalism if it hit him upside the head with a railroad tie.

"Voter fraud" is not the same as registration "fraud", which apparently has been caught before anyone got a chance to cast a fraudulent vote.  Which means, in terms of the election itself, no harm, no foul.  The actual scandal is people being tossed off the rolls on the thinest of pretexts.  The real problem with ACORN is that the "wrong people" are signed up not to vote twice, but once.  It's also setting up a Dolchschosslegende for the 2008 election to fire the GOP base for a four year campaign of "the election was rigged!"

As for Ayers and this Kenya thing, no one outside the militant Obama haters cares, because they're getting 401(k) statements and discovering their money is gone.  It's a total non-issue, which is why it's getting no traction at all.  By the same set of dubious relationships, McCain can be tied to militant anti-choice types who are terrorists and are behind bars for their activites.  Unlike William Ayers.

John McCain asked a woman he did not bother to vet to be his running mate.  Now you see the results. John McCain's poor judgement haunts him now as his campaign gets more and more desperate and negative and is doing nothing but extending Obama's lead and turn states that were once considered safe for McCain to be "in play".

I'm wondering why Monegan didn't just go ahead and fire the guy, if all the accusations of being drunk on the job and tazering a 10 year old are true. What possible reason could he have for not firing him, was he friend's with the trooper or something?

Ignoring the rest of the findings and increasing the font size only makes you look more foolish.

The commission did find her actions surrounding this incident unlawful.

Mind you, this is the finding of a Republican majority commission.
