Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.

Governor Palin’s firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercie of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.
You're right actually. There were no laws broken as far as this current investigation is concerned. The only conclusion they came up with was that she abused her power.
Kinda funny, just today I was watching McCain speak live in Wisconsin and he said "I will not tolerate government officials abusing power". It was actually one of his key points in his speach.
Palin violated the state Ethics Act, Branchflower found.
"The evidence supports the conclusion that Gov. Palin, at the least, engaged in 'official action' by her inaction, if not her active participation or assistance to her husband, in attempting to get Trooper Wooten fired [and there is evidence of her active participation]," Branchflower concluded.
"[Palin] knowingly ... permitted [husband] Todd Palin to use the governor's office and the resources of the governor's office ... in an effort to find some way to get Trooper Wooten fired."
"If you want a picture of the future, imagine a robot foot stomping on a human face -- forever."
The only conclusion they came up with was that she abused her power. Kinda funny, just today I was watching McCain speak live in Wisconsin and he said "I will not tolerate government officials abusing power". It was actually one of his key points in his speach.
Which requires another round of investigation to validate the report or not.

I'm wondering why Monegan didn't just go ahead and fire the guy, if all the accusations of being drunk on the job and tazering a 10 year old are true. What possible reason could he have for not firing him, was he friend's with the trooper or something?
What do ya wanna bet that this will be front page news and only news story on every news outlet until the election ...
ANYthing they can come up with to deflect the MUCH more damning obama news that was starting to come out today..... SPIKED. The voter fraud issue now in 11 states.... SPIKED. The Obama ties to Kenya.... SPIKED. Hannity was right. Jounalism died. And the libs can't figure out why Fox is number one. Why EVERY talk radio show that thrives is conservative.
Hannity is part of an organization that, from its inception, was conceived and built as a propaganda organ in the tradition of TASS and Xinhua. Hannity wouldn't know actual journalism if it hit him upside the head with a railroad tie.
"Voter fraud" is not the same as registration "fraud", which apparently has been caught before anyone got a chance to cast a fraudulent vote. Which means, in terms of the election itself, no harm, no foul. The actual scandal is people being tossed off the rolls on the thinest of pretexts. The real problem with ACORN is that the "wrong people" are signed up not to vote twice, but once. It's also setting up a Dolchschosslegende for the 2008 election to fire the GOP base for a four year campaign of "the election was rigged!"
As for Ayers and this Kenya thing, no one outside the militant Obama haters cares, because they're getting 401(k) statements and discovering their money is gone. It's a total non-issue, which is why it's getting no traction at all. By the same set of dubious relationships, McCain can be tied to militant anti-choice types who are terrorists and are behind bars for their activites. Unlike William Ayers.
John McCain asked a woman he did not bother to vet to be his running mate. Now you see the results. John McCain's poor judgement haunts him now as his campaign gets more and more desperate and negative and is doing nothing but extending Obama's lead and turn states that were once considered safe for McCain to be "in play".
I'm wondering why Monegan didn't just go ahead and fire the guy, if all the accusations of being drunk on the job and tazering a 10 year old are true. What possible reason could he have for not firing him, was he friend's with the trooper or something?

What's funny is how the majority of Americans approach politics today. It's as if we're discussing NFL teams, not our country. Party politics are detrimental to our well being IMO. People don't judge our leaders on merits or ideology, they side with them because of a slogan. This actually scares me to be honest, it's not funny at all.
Say she is found guilty, what then? Are you still going to blindly defend her simply because she has the red jersey on? Last time I checked we should all be wearing the same jersey, instead we're labeling each other as terrorists, and dividing ourselves. Fastest way to destruction if you ask me.
Yes the same could be said for those on the blue team. The only difference here is someone might have actually done something truly wrong, and abused their position or power. This isn't a simple scenario of who he/she knows or what kind of underwear they wear. This is showing what they do when they receive power.

I pretty much agree with your statements and wish there was more than just two main parties (which yes I know, it takes effort to form strong parties or voting blocks).
The only item I have a disagreement is if Palin is found guilty. Though I do understand your thinking and reasoning. For me, she is the VP and not the President, which is a matter of risk when given McCain's health condition. However, looking more at this case with Palin may (key word, may) seem that she would be considered justified for doing so.
I hear Michael Savage is forming a political party, I just might try it out.

Sorry for the rant I just felt it had to be said, this election boils my blood. That's the trap that they sprung on us with this whole system. They know how hard it is to get any standing in the presidential arena, it's a two way monopoly forced on all of us.
Interesting, I'll have to track that and see if it goes anywhere.

Indeed.
Why does it come to voting between the lesser of two evils, or voting for someone so that the other does not get elected for the Leader of the US and of the Free World. One of the most powerful positions there is.
Has it always been this way, or only in the recent times?

IMO (keep in mind I'm only 29) we haven't had a Great President since FDR. We've had decent/good, but not great. If we were to face World War 3 right now I'd be terrified.
As for your question I really couldn't answer it, I'm sure someone older could. In recent memory , it's been the same the last 3 elections.

It pretty much died with the Vietnam war, and Richard Nixon. The Democrats demonized him. Then the Republicans demonized carter. Then, the Democrats demonized Reagan. Then BOTH sides Demonized Bush, the Democrats because of the war and his CIA connections, the Republicans because he lied about taxes. That was the only unity we've had in MY lifetime. Then, the Republicans demonized Clinton. Now, the Democrats have been demonizing Bush. It's gotten so bad that they have actually WANTED the economy to go bad, WANTED American soldiers to die in war, and WANTED America to lose in Iraq. It's gotten more and more vicious.
It has gotten worse and worse with each administration. It is due to the death of patriotism on BOTH sides. I personally blame government education and its teaching of "issues" and "cultures" instead of civics, history, and the constitution. People have no idea why we are here together. They then behave accordingly when they reach adulthood.
Also, a lack of Latin hurts us. You see, when people used to learn Latin, they used to learn LOGIC, because the best Latin pieces were written by brilliant logicians from ancient Rome.
Thus, people who are "educated" are often ignorant in how one proves one's case. They then substitute emotions, which is where we are now.
We are witnessing the destruction of reason not unlike the Weimar Republic of Germany. Now they are saying "capitalism has failed," when we haven't been capitalist for awhile. Next they will be saying "democracy has failed," for the coup de grace.

Well said especially about the Latin, Ad-hominem comes to mind . Which is how they handle campaigns today, to bad they didn't study what it means when you resort to such ( I wish the general public would at least).
I also wish our people would study more on world history. Namely Rome, I'm sure you know why. I'd say it myself, however I'm just a random forum guy. Study why Rome fell please, you'll know why I brought the subject up.

Very interesting, though there's only one problem. He does a very good job of explaining the disconnect between education and the dangers of communism. Yet he touted the right in the process, while ignoring their Achilles heel (Religious Doctrine). Which has also got a spotty past. There's nothing perfect about either sides approach.

First of all, she does not face indictment, this is an ethics investigation, not a criminal one.
And secondly, no one cares about this anyway because everyone's worried about how they are going to put food on the table since the economy is suddenly in the tank...or at least that's what the media would have you believe whenever the subject of William Ayers comes up.

That's the beauty of liberty. We are free to agree or disagree -- and we both benefit when we challenge one another
Reagan's advisors set HIM up for a fall as well, and if the Dems were not such wishy-washy idiots, they could have well made the case to impeach Reagan over Iran-Contra, in which Reagan's underlings tossed aside the Constitution to run a foreign policy independent from Congressional oversight as was intended in the Constitution.
Then the Republicans, through the late 80's and early 90's, totally lost everything that made Ronald Reagan's presidency possible; his positive attitude, when they chose to demonize Bill Clinton, and finally "get revenge" for the movement to impeach Nixon that didn't move to formal Impeachment and conviciton and removal from office only because Nixon short circuited the process by resigning when Barry Goldwater, among others, told him he had no chance of avoiding conviction and removal.
What we're seeing in the "pit bull" Palin and the hate that permeates McCain/Palin rallies right now is the culmination of 40 years of self-inflicted Republican victimhood that is, as I type these words, resulting in a civil war within the GOP that it may not survive.

And that is why...

And that is why...

Like maybe, overextending the Empire with a "Pax Romana" dream, while at the same time debasing the currency? Hmmmm nahhh that doesn't sound like anything we've ever seen before....

Very well said.
I know we have had disagreements before with SWG some time ago, but that post I think was a very good unbiased one.
A good post indeed.

That's the beauty of liberty. We are free to agree or disagree -- and we both benefit when we challenge one another

The Democrats didn't demonize Nixon.
Nixon's paranoia made him a demon.
He brought his own downfall on himself.
CH, Jedi, Commando, Smuggler, BH, Scout, Doctor, Chef, BE...yeah, lots of SWG time invested.
