"EXCLUSIVE:
At the same time the Bush administration was negotiating a still elusive agreement to keep the U.S. military in Iraq, Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama tried to convince Iraqi leaders in private conversations that the president shouldn't be allowed to enact the deal without congressional approval.
Mr. Obama's conversations with the Iraqi leaders, confirmed to The Washington Times by his campaign aides, began just two weeks after he clinched the Democratic presidential nomination in June and stirred controversy over the appropriateness of a White House candidate's contacts with foreign governments while the sitting president is conducting a war.

Oh no, this is not important compared to how Palin didn't break any laws when she fired someone who couldn't do their job well. No...THAT's much more important news.

This is becoming an exciting weekend with the volleys of rocket attacks going on with each side.
Anyone interested in getting some popcorn?

Conservatives' pessimism is conducive to their happiness in three ways. First, they are rarely surprised -- they are right more often than not about the course of events. Second, when they are wrong they are happy to be so. Third, because pessimistic conservatives put not their faith in princes -- government -- they accept that happiness is a function of fending for oneself. They believe that happiness is an activity -- it is inseparable from the pursuit of happiness.
You're citing the Moonie Times as a source?
C'mon, Faxxer. You're going to have to do better than this.
Obama was talking to the Iraqi government which is, at least nominally, our ally! It's not like we're at war with the Iraqi government! This is just utterly silly. Was Obama talking to the Free Sunni Islamic Government of Iraq in Exile, based in King Khalid Military CIty or something?
Obama was trying to convince the Iraqi government that they couldn't get a treaty with the US without it being approved by the Senate? That's just telling them that the US Constitution is still mostly in effect. Well, except for the parts that the deserting coward has chosen to blow off, and breaks his oath of office by doing so.
Besides, the war was over May 1st, 2003. It's been an occupation...albeit a particluarly bloody and expensive occupation.
You don't win occupations.

The thing with this report is that Obama was working against Bush rather than as a team player during a military occupation. It can be considered as undermining the current administration's efforts to push further one's goals, but oh well, that's politics.

Given that the assministration's "goal" seems to be to ram through a treaty bypassing the Senate, in direct violation of the Constitution, I'd say Obama takes his oath of office seriously. Undermining a black letter unconstitutional action indicates that Obama's got his priorities right.
Not so the deserting coward.
Obama was telling the Iraqis that unless their was congressional involvement, any deal the assministration tried to armtwist them into wouldn't fly. So stop wasting time.
The Iraqis of course are not total idiots, which is why this treaty is going nowhere.

One is based off facts and a thorough investigation (with heavy republican involvement)
the other is based off heresay and claims without any evidence or proof.
maybe it should be investigated? until then, why should this topic be more important than our potential future VP proven to abuse power as an official?

This Administration unlike any others, except maybe with Lincoln, has enormous amount of power that really Congress can be by-passed. But I'll tell you what. If Obama agrees as one of his acts to remove the executive power of allowing the President to seize control of private and commercial assets during a declared emergency; I'll vote for him.

Better still- is this topic more important than Barrack Obama eating your baby? You do love babies don't you? Then tune in for this FOX news special report: Barrack the Baby Killer.
P.S. This is my way of protesting the half dozen or so right wing lamers who have taken over these boards as the MMORPG.com Election08' Bullshit HQ- as if we care. This is also in protest of their stroking eachother off in threads by posting one after the other patting, praising and fondiling one another in succession.
It don't get much weaker than that.
This is underhanded to be sure, however, he didn't do anything necessarily wrong or abusive. This seems to be straw clenching on behalf of the Republican party IMO. When you're backed into the corner you start using your claws, this is the end result . The same could be said for the Muslim/terrorist connections. Guilt by association, you can spin anything and present it as a great horror. Ask any strategist running either campaign.
How about we demand our candidates start addressing issues, you know so we know just how they plan to fix things? Scratch that, I guess we'd all rather watch the next episode of the springer show.

How about signing statements?
How about ignoring Habeus Corpus, which not only stomps on the Constitution, it stomps on the Magna Carta?
How about "extraordinary rendition" and "enhanced interrogation techniques"?
How about illegal monitoring of communications?
How about the politicalization of the Justice Department?
How about bypassing checks and balances in the letting of contracts, particularly in the Department of Defense?
How about ignoring Posse Comitatus and the Insurrection Act and assigning active duty Army units to the Northern Command for use in domestic law enforcement?
Do you realize how many laws the Bush/Cheney assministration has chosen to ignore or outright break?

Hey I'm not going to defend the current Administration of its growth of power. But that is correct of what you listed as to how much power the executive branch now has, I'm not going to dispute it.
That said though, I don't expect McCain to grow the government as much as Obama will (centralized health database as one example). But, if Obama has stated (which I have not read or hear, so point me to any such information that may exist) that he'll reduce the power of the government, such as overturn what you have provided above and the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America then I'll switch.
And that is why...

Wow, now they're down to recycling old stories that nobody cared about the first time around.
I'm actually starting to feel sad for the social conservatives. I only say "conservatives" because the republicans have already accepted the fact that Obama is the next president. Only the social conservatives are keeping the faith.
What's the difference betwen Sarah Palin and George Bush?
