I just find it to be a bit ironic, but a lot of the people who play the true warhammer actually dislike the idea of WHO, and dont want to play it. I myself enjoy Games Workshop, and everyone I have talked to who plays dislikes it. Thought it was a bit interesting...

I play both the tabletop and the computer game. If I had to choose, however, which one I would spend playing at a certain time, I'd definately go with the tabletop version.
Then again, a night with beer and women wins over all.
Another opinion based on experienced but expressed as a fact.
I see you like DFO and you created the account recently... welcome to MMORPG.com... where anyone can express their opinions (even when they do it like if they own the truth and all they say is a fact).
see, most of the people who played disliked the main aspects of the online game.
1) it added a storyline to the game that progresses. the fun of WH is that it is an ongoing war that never ends, because there is no storyline progression. The battles may result, but in the long run, nothing really impacts it, which allows for continuous war.
2) you play a hero...a lot of people felt it was just stupid, because in WH/40k/LOTR you command legions/battalions, and a few heroes, but you don't get to customize an "elite" unit and play just as him.

I play both Warhammer Fantasy Battles and Warhammer 40K table top miniatures.
I prefer to play the tabletop minis games to any pc game. But, finding an opponent is harder than finding someone on the pc to adventure with.
And the painting of the miniatures is more rewarding. I've been mini's painting/gaming since Rogue Trader days. Beats pc gaming any day.
Hello, nice to meet you.
I have played both the offline Warhammer and WAR.
Now you have met someone who enjoys both of them.
STOP WHINING!
I can imagine this.
I consciously made the choice never to buy the Final Fantasy MMO because I have an almost perfect record of great Final Fantasy memories from my history with that game and I am 100% sure a MMO on that would ruin that streak.
MMO's are full of flaws and errors and after them becoming transparent they simply dull on you. Even *If* the game is perfect you still end up having a good chance players will ruin it for you.
Just not something I wanted to subject myself to, some things are not to be meddled with ^^
Well a great part of Warhammer is customization but WAR has none of that and commanding armies but WAR again doesn't have an rts element. It's clear that Mythic were just goin after WOW players who enjoy PVP.
Well guess what here is another person that plays and LIKES both WAR and the table top. I have spent over 3 grand on the table top, have several armies and enjoy a night out with the guys and gals that play the table top hell i have had battles last 4 days. We all play WAR as well and truely enjoy the game. It keeps the humor of the table top and for the most part has a lot of the creatures in it that I personaly like though sure wish we could play scathen or how ever you spell them after a 2 night party!!!

its actually true.
no one in my 2 club houses playes the game or is intrested in it.
also go to the warhammer forum http://warhammer.org.uk/PhP/ one of the most active warhammer table top forums and you will find most people have the same view

Well for two reasons mainly,
1) It's just not a great game, there are many issues with it and I personally just found it booring.
2) It's system demanding, it looks like utter crap until you've got a really good computer, something everyone just doesn't have.
3) It fucks the warhammer lore over entirely {Mod Edit}
4) Most people have played WoW as their first MMO experience, the MMO concept isn't new or magical to anyone anymore.
There are lots of tabletop players who play WAR. Just look on the Warseer forum. I'm building my first army currently. It was on hold but playing WAR encouraged me to get on with it. I'm going to start building a table this week.
If you need any help or advice with building a table, feel free to PM me.
"4) Most people have played WoW as their first MMO experience, the MMO concept isn't new or magical to anyone anymore."
Thats your opinion which doesn't really matter in the long run. The MMO experience obviously doesn't make you happy anymore, but for millions that statement is just plain wrong. I can't imagine why people compare WAR to WOW as other then the basic fantasy MMO rules they differ more than most MMORPG's do from one another. WAR has more in common with DAoC than WoW, and yet with many more innovations. As to the OP's view to the board game crew not playing or enjoying WAR, well the comments don't seem to support that basic blanket statement. Just as in any crowd it seems some dislike it and some like it. Don't see how that affects WAR in the long run though, but just maybe it might bring in some first timers to the board game crowd, which in my view might be a good thing!
WAR is crap? I don't think so.
I enjoy playing it but I only play for a couple hours every day....2-3 at most. I read the story line in the quests while I play and take my time. I've met nice people and had a great time. I've played just about every MMORPG since EQ days. Some I've enjoyed, others I despised.
Playing WAR has me interested in building a Chaos Warriors army when the new army book comes out next month. I'm currently looking for a guild that consists of gamers from the tabletop game. It would be a lot more fun that way, I think.
But, to say WAR is crap is your opinion....and so be it. No game can please everyone. But, it does please me. I don't like WoW....but I won't call it crap. It is fun, just not my cup of tea. I respect those who like it....it's their money and their time.
I'm gonna try the 40K version is there any online documentation on where to start?
No, actually it's very much fact. WoW intrigued many new ppl to the world of MMOs since it previously (to them) had been nothing like it. The label of 'new' and 'fresh' has always been held in high esteem my marketing agencies and for good reason.
I still very much enjoy MMOs, just not WAR. However if WAR had been my first MMO I would imagine that it'd seem very cool with huge, near-seemless world with thousands of users online at the same time. I remember how back in the days of EQ an MMO was something special, it was different. The players were pioneers in a relatively unknown genre and people would give you odd looks when you said how many hrs/week you played or that you actually PAYED to play! WoW made it all mainstream, WAR isn't "a cool game with a huge fantasy world which everyone can play together in" - it's just another MMO.

I would disagree as WAR is exactly that, as is most MMO's, so yes it's just another MMO. Of course each MMo is "just another MMO". It's all about how the MMO is implemented which make them different and what target audience they are marketing as no MMO appeals to everyone. I beta tested Lotr and decided not to play it when it went live. Why? Because it 's game play and direction didn't appeal to me. Did I try to change the games direction or whine because it didn't cater to my tastes? No, because the game did what the designers intended it to do and was basically a good game for those folks, remember every game doesn't(and shouldn't) appeal to everyone. War is exactly the game I have been looking for, RvR with lore, sorry that doesn't work for you. I'm hoping WAR doesn't change it direction because of a minority of criticism to just become another WoW type clone.

I can't speak for other. But as a Warhammer fan and knowing many Warhammers fans...I don't play the game.
And as far as I can say, among my friends, all those who are playing WAR aren't Warhammer fans. Yet, I didn't make an extansive survey about that, or really care. Warhammer fans are all considering the game however. I assume they would entrust the opinion of their friends who play MMOs, especially if they are Warhammer fans as well, and I can't say I speak much of it, and the few times I did, it was to say that I wouldn't play this game.
Anyway, I wish them good luck, I am just too bored to even care anymore about this game. Yet, I somehow come to the forums today to spend time.
