Nope, i keep getting a reroute error from some Cyber Nanny program stating the site has been blocked because its considered a hobby/entertainment. Looks like someone on a network very close to STO's security program went a little too gung-ho.

im not sure if i understand what your saying, but why would something someone did on another website affect STO's website?

Hmm, for some reason i just posted and the post didn't show up so here goes again.

In a nut shell, If someone installs a cyber nanny on their network and give that program access control over their DNS then that cyber nanny program will start blocking packets that are passing through that network.

Now if that network happens to be one of the hops that STO's router passes through on the way out to connect to the rest of the internet then you'll have a problem. It'll be up to the STO website admin to block the IP of the hop that is blocking packets, or to contact the admin of the site where the packets are being blocked and have them fix their stuff. (polite term there, a mistake like this is pretty in-excusable, as the network in question is probably a pretty major one, example: 90% of all internet traffic in the SE U.S. passes through AT&T's and Bellsouth's networks)

Now thats all just a theory of mine given the error messages i'm receiving. The error messages i'm receiving may not be related at all,  But it may very well be likely given that i'm not the only person having issues connecting to the site.

Edit* Explanation of how the internet works. The internet is not one solid pipeline that connects all computers everywhere. The internet is like the Interstate highway system. Just like Interstates connect states together, the Internet connects Networks together. When you send and receive information over the internet you aren't just directly connecting to whatever server it is you're trying to connect to. Instead you send packets of data to another networks router, which in turn passes it to another networks router, and so on and so forth until that packet reaches its destination. Each router is called a hop. Usually if your sending info from one part of the continental U.S. to another part it takes around 15-17 hops, though i've seen as many as 45-50.

Np, lets just hope that STO realizes they have a problem soon. I enjoy the community over there. :-)

I hope they have the sense to add the Romulans.

maybe someone from MMORPG.COM can call them up and tell them about the site being down?

Why on earth would MMORPG.com do that?  Cryptic doesn't even advertise here.

It's been down since 9:30am Sunday.  I'd say at about 11am EST time today they'll walk into the office, have an hour long coffee break, discuss what horrible things they did over the weekend, NOT log into the website.  Indeed, Razor will likely start checking his email, which there are probably ten dozen complaints he'll have to deal with before he realizes

'wow, I didn't get any PMs on Sunday complaining about anything...amazing.  No SAMEET or Jenshae trolling/bumping.  It was a very pleasant day on a forum....wait a minute...there's NEVER a nice day on a forum that gets used!'

So yeah...they'll figure it out about 2pm EST.

I had to start an account here just to figure out what happened over there!

you can report the problem by emailing them here:

    webmaster@crypticstudios.com

hopefully the more people that report it the sooner it will be fixed.

Also...it's what...5am where Cryptic's offices are?  Yeah, I'm sure they're just bustling around that office right now!

I'm really starting to wonder now.  If they can't keep a very basic website operational....how do they expect to keep an MMO and it's server(s) functioning? I hate to be so negative, but wow.  Major website failure twice in four days?

Okay, I spoke too soon...it's back up.
