I was just thinking, now, there is no complete PROOF of this but i believe the game will not be just a pvp mmo and will have some very good pve and rpg elements too it aswell.
On that note....
What i was thinking was the fact that this game has been in development for like 7 years, it has had graphics uphauls to keep up with the times and as they said, Aventurine coded the engine so it has good performance (and perhaps so that they can update the graphics as they actually develop the game too)?
What im getting at is what if Aventurine are doing this specifically so they can get all the features in, perhaps to create a game which will take a long time to make but specifically so it is extremely rich in features and content and just generally alot better than basically any mmorpg out there that is set in a fantasy world, basically im saying maybe they are doing this on purpose. What they propose the game has is pretty astonishing and hard to live up to tbh, i really hope that this is actually their plan and that is succeeds, they have had a long long time to get it all in.
Another point anyway dont you think it would be better for developers to do this and try and create a game with tons of features and a large world with lots to do before release but make the actual engine so it can be updated. Im wondering if in the future there will ever be company's who start making large project mmorpg's (ones that are very expansive in features, world lore etc that could take a long time to make but will be incredible in comparison to themepark mmo's especially, which are limited) with an engine that is quite open to modding and so the graphics can be updated as the game advances, main reason being though so that the company can add lots and lots of content and features. It would cost alot of money but could also reap alot of money.
Hmmmmmmm. Post your thoughts about the idea.

When people criticise DF for being in development 7 or 8 years the fanboys always tell us that it was scrapped and started again from scratch in 2003. So this version of the game has been in development 5 years. Add to that the fact that one of the senior devs admitted to working on it part-time and that the team is far from rich in experience, then I have no reason to believe DF will be that rich in features. I'd like to actually see some i the videos for a start!
You mean like collision detection, Ship combat, Combat in general, how some of the AI combat works, archery, magic, Mounts, mounted combat, clan banks, siege's. You mean features like that? lol You said you wanted to see some in the video i'm just playing devils advocate and pointing out some of what they did show in the video and by no means is that all they showed in the video.
That's true. If Darkfall will have a noticeable success, then the market for WoW alternatives will grow.
It has nothing to do with being a fanboi. Every gamer should be praying Darkfall is a success to break the current long line of Everquest clones which was perfected by Blizzard with WoW, and duplicated by so many others over the years. Sony could have had a WoW type success with SWG but failed with major revisions to everything which made that game special. Their original release was lacking in content (There were far from enough theme parks & POI's to keep everyone entertained for long) but there was a huge open world where you could explore, build settlements, set up shops, and war over politics. Crafting was interesting & customizable to a point beyond what most other games had accomplished before or since.
If Darkfall delivers on their feature list then every other developer is going to have to stand up and take notice. That my friends, is a win for all of us.
Well said KalTheo. I for one hope they deliver on even half the features they promise. I've been an MMO refugee since about 4 months after the NGE went live to SWG, I've played and done trials of roughly 6 MMO's since then, all the popular ones mind you, EVE, WoW, LotRo, CoX etc and a few Free to Play ones thrown in, NONE of them hold a candle to Pre-NGE SWG's features, they are too simplistic which is the reason i left SWG because of the NGE...
If Adventurine manage to pull off 30% or more of their promised features i reccon it'll be popular, the sheer number of subs they'll get from ex-SWG players (who were interested in the content over the theme) will be enough to see the game through and increase the chances of any features that didn't make it being added at some point. This alone will scare the current simple games developers into rethinking how they do things. Don't get me wrong though, WoW and the like will always be popular but not everyone wants WoW or the other simple MMO's out there, more and more people are looking for something more.
Yep, i agree and i really hope Darkfall manages to chop a hole in the tree of "themepark" mmorpg's, and perhaps even make it tumble, now im not saying they arnt enjoyable, i enjoyed wow for a bit, i really enjoyed oldschool EQ and a few others, but i really loved the freedom there was in UO and Eve. The fact is i think people have got bored with some of the general game mechanics that have been done to death by the gamplay mechanics of most themepark mmorpgs, or if they havnt, they should. lol
There are too many mmorpg with similar mechanics but just with different flavours ontop.
There is a reason why some people want games that are more "sandboxy" such as UO, Darkfall, Mortal Online and Eve and although their potential subscriber base is a minority in comparison to the whole mmorpg market it is a style of game which, trust me because i have alot of experience, is very enjoyable because of the ammount of content and freedom in the game.
How can mmorpg's with such alot of content and features be in a minority? People playing mmorpg's shouldnt be so scared to try something new and innovative. The Eve subscriber base has grown alot the past few years though which is great, it is quite a different game though ofcourse compared to Darkfall and is alot more to do with strategy when in combat rather than hands on skill of the player with strategy interwined, but it is similar in the respect that it has alot of freedom, alot of content/features and to a certain extent a player driven economy and world.
With all the features Darkfall has, the player driven economy, the freedom/content, comprised with a combat system that requires skill and strategy it should be great and in a way revolutionairy.
How can you argue with features like these in a game? (with the hope it is released feature complete, eve if it isnt it should still be fun though) the the main thing that should be questionable about if a player would enjoy it is the lore which is subjective to the likes or dislikes of the player anyway.
Will the populous of mmorpg gamers and developers recognise that sticking to generic mechanics isnt actually a good thing and it stunts the progression of mmorpg's features and ideas, ofcourse though probably most of them do it for money rather than creating something which is different but fun and unique. It is a shame but te market is getting a bit better it seems.
I want a good choice in different styles of gamplay from mmorpg's, not the same gameplay with a different topping.
Exactly.
It's not as much that people are scared of playing a sandbox, as the developers are scared of taking on the monumentous task of creating a well done sandbox. And the money behind the game usually prefer the proven ground of WOW clones.

Yeah there is that to, i could of elaberating on what i said alot but nice addition, its very true. But thats one of the things im trying to get at with my post. It sux and its unfortuanate that developers do this or feel the need to..... its a shame it has to be this way.
I agree, EVERYONE should want this game to do well. Diversity is good for the genre and we need it back again.
HOWEVER, Everquest was awesome, and WoW is not the logical conclusion of Everquest. I wish they would make a new game that was actually like the original Everquest, WoW isnt even close.
lol through whos ass did you pull that one?

yep, lies. as if *any* country doesn't have part-time workers...
I am hoping for a UO style game that we experienced when UO came out.
Basically, complete sandbox, you could be evil or good, based on your actions. I was a murderer at one point, hiding in the wilderness. A thief at other times, and even an upstanding citizen at one point. the choice was MINE and I got to play the way I wanted to without all these rules and regulations imposed on my character.
Your character should evolve based on how you play and what you do with him, not based on some bull rules.

Yes. I agree.
freedom in game is great, not like this bad ass game like AOC
You do realize that you just insulted the game play in a game that you have never played, right? There are enough trolls here already, begone.
I am a skeptical supporter of DF. I am not a fanboi nor a troll. I seek the truth in every discussion, and I am truly sorry if I mistakenly state a fallacy.
