hehe maybe :) i can see where they are coming from but i don't think its even an option for the wow dev crew to keep their chars. A chance could exist if blizzard makes a test server for the beta chars to be on :]

You're clearly one of those ppl. who bought their account off of eBay for big money -- Oh, I mean your friend did. image

It serves you right for doing something so stupid. How could you possibly think that Blizzard would allow you to keep your character once retail comes around?

    1. We are not jealous people.  I could give a flying $*%& if someone got into the closed beta over me and got to play the game for so many months.  We "whine, cry, bitch, moan, and groan" for the sake of the game.  If beta testers are allowed to keep their characters, the following can happen:

    • The economy will go to crap because all the high characters will want to sell their good, low level items for a decent price, a price new characters will not be able to pay.
    • High level characters (not all of them but there are some that will because they are jackasses) will go around the newb areas (most likely rogues because they can stealth) and gank the hell out of anyone they see.  Or even imagine a level 60 horde mage (for example, could be switched around because Im sure alliance people would do this too) runs into an alliance starting area, which will be packed tighter than sardines in a can, and uses arcane explosion.  Thats about 50 dead newbs right there.  People will be pissed.
    • The high level characters will camp all the good, noninstanced, spawns for the best items, even if it is just to keep newbs from getting the items.

    2.  We are not petty (at least, not most of us).  See above.

    3.  The leveling curve is already fast enough (probably even with the change Blizzard is thinking about implementing) that you do not need to be powerleveled to level fast.  On the first day of the stress test I got to level 10 with my warlock, didnt take that long.  The leveling slowed down a little after that, but that was mostly due to the condition the warlock class was in at the time.

    4.  The gear a character has can make him/her far better than other characters of the same level.  Your friend giving you gear would make you far better than other characters at your level and would give you an unfair advantage, allowing you to level and pvp better than others.

    5.  Yes, Blizzard is a good company, no argument there.  Yes, they will do whats best for the game, and that is to wipe the beta characters before release.

if thay did let u keep it should be on test server since thay were test toons any way . that way it is fair to people who did not get to play in beta and to people who did .

Now that I would be fine with.  As long as it was just a test server and they only got to use their characters to test new patchs/expansions, I think that would be alright.

"Leveling up" did NOT help Blizzard. Your role as a beta tester was not to just level up. It's sad to know that there are beta testers that misunderstand their role in the Beta. Hopefully not all testers have this immature point of view and have actually assisted Blizzard in developing the game.

I personally wish game developers would go back to selecting applicants based on technical and analytical merits to ensure the quality of the games.  Beta testing should be left to those who take it seriously.

Beta characters are test characters - when the test ends - so should the character.

Yeah, exactly! When the account is swiped, they loose their a$$. That's why I never showed any interest into buying a closed beta account off Ebay because:

    1. The account will eventually be closed at the end of beta. Therefore, you lose out on $200+, which is a hell of alot of money to waist in my opinion.

    2. I've seen numerous reports of scamers either taking back their beta account by changing the password or making people believe they have the CB, but really it's the ST beta.

    3. Just isn't a smart idea paying $200+ when the game itself only will retail for $50 (not including monthly charges).

So all in all, bite the bullet, because your account will be swiped eventually.image

man i'm shocked that my topic is creating such debate... it's good to have a debate! ::::17::

Something I got to thinking about was this. Just out of personal experience with other mmorpg's ... whenever I had jumped into the game it'd been months after the original release of the game. due to this fact, I found it a little more difficult to start playing the game since there were so many people in the game high level, they tended to set the standard on the games prices of items, and have a strong guild system set up that they could control areas.

IF WoW were to let all the beta players keep their characters after the beta ends, I feel that a lot of people who have not had the oportunity to play the beta would not be very happy this fact and thus not purchase the game.
You gotta think about the fact that at the moment it's between World of Warcraft and Everquest II to be the next big MMORPG.. if one of em goofs up to drive players away, it's gonna hurt! If I knew that WoW was NOT doing a character whipe, I would probably be looking more into EQ2 myself.

  • OjiSanOjiSan Member Posts: 32
indeed and even for those that said in L2 the players got to keep theirs but they didnt, when CB was done the characters got swiped but ppl could bring from OB into retail, but not from CB bc it would have just been way to abusive

Dear iceseraph I think you misunderstood me or were just jealous as many none beta testers. What I meant by leveling up was questing and the things you do like fishing, smithing etc. and believe it or not many other close beta testers and I made first steps to help all of you none beta testers NOT to quit WoW because of so many bugs we had found. Maybe even because of people so dedicated to WoW like me you won't even be playing retail game that comes out in November/December instead you would vain on this forum all day long for many more months. I'm a very busy man but I still got time for WoW.

Bud - u are several dozen IQ points short of being an idiot.
take your hat off, i want to point out a concrete example.

i doubt anyone jealous of u In order to be jealous of u would mean they would want to be u and it appears that iceseraph is intelligent enough to run screaming in horror at that propsition.

ice is exactly right-  beta is a test.  your toon is part of that test and when the beta is over so is your toon, Get over it bud

The fact of the matter is this: Every post here, in esscence, has been pointless, other than to bicker and argue.  No matter what we say or what we discuss, Blizzard is going to do what they are going to do, and I read that they are not allowing beta testers to keep their accounts.  We can keep bitching at each other all day long and it wont change anything.

First, thank you for any bugs you reported.  Second, get over yourself.  As for solutions, what are you expecting?  There are three choices... delete them, dont delete them (screw over new players on that server), or dont delete them and put them on a test server.  And from the list of games you say you're currently playing, it does indeed sound like you're busy.

94% of those polled in this thread say "No!"

I'd be surprised if we'd get 94% agreement on "Sex - Yes or No' here at MMORPG.

Obviously most people here understand how betas are set up and what happens to beta chars post-test.

There's also little problems like testers leveling with unlimited untrain abilities, exploits always present in betas, and possibly a different level/XP curve for the release.

Get their own server??? Bliz already spent a fortune on the beta program, testers already got a long preview, and you want a server for them? Test Servers, assuming Bliz has one, frequently get char-wipes (hence the name TEST). You might want to avoid getting on the test server as well, because...

    YOUR CHARACTER WILL GET WIPED!!!

Not everyone that starts a MMO starts on its release date. There will always be people higher level than you when you start a game so get over it. Most of the CB playes did submit alot of time in bug reports and glitches and they deserve a real award for there time and effort. I have seen a few games successfully roll beta chars into retail with no problems. I dont think CB unless it had a really good alpha team should be rolled over but at least OB after most the game is leveled off and made fair. There are usually very very few major changes and just alot of minor tweaks from OB to Retail. It isnt that far of a leap to let people that spent time helping to make this great game you all want to play to get a reward or some kind of reconigtion of there time spent. It seems fair to me that they should get a special title or item to show there participation in CB and I would hate to see 6 months of char creation destroyed. The test server idea does sound kind of cool but once again why bother crying about what may or may not happen Blizzard will do what is best for the game. Might as well get over the fact that there will be lvl 50's while your lvl 1. Also there is no way a high lvl horde/alliance char could get into the opposing noob areas it will never happen too many npc guards aroudn the starting areas. there will is special zones for pvp alot of the zones are pve

Their reward is being able to play the game, for free, for x amount of months while the rest of us cringe and grind our teeth waiting for the game to come out.  Beta testers deserve nothing, and do not say that I would say other wise if I was in the beta, because I would not.
