Give Wow a Try ???

Hi guys, I am an avid Lineage 2 player.

I have been playing L2 for over 4 years now, but I mainly play for the pve aspects, not much of

the pvp.

I still love the game, but I am wondering if I should give wow a try for something different.

    Eh... go with a trial...

Im afraid right now my view on WoW is rather jaded as of recently due to multiple factors.

If you want my opinion here.

"If this is your first time playing, you are screwed, depending on the class you choose will determine how screwed you are. Depending on how casual or hardcore you are, determines how screwed you are."

    Try Vangaurd.

Plenty of PvE in Wow to keep you busy but the only way to know if you like it is to try it so grab the free trial, it isn't going to cost you anything and you don't have to download the whole client to try it out and then at least you will have some idea whether it is for you or not.

    Have fun.

It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

Now is a great time to start playing.  The expansion is over a month away which gives you plenty of time to get to lvl 70 and be ready for it.  What this means?  That you will be 'with' everyone else as they level from 70 to 80.

Meh. The trial didnt ever do much for me. I didnt really realize how fun WoW was until i got to higher lvls. The Trial actually drove me elsewhere. It wasnt until i bought theg ame that i was satisfied.

Don't waste your time with this has been game..Try WAR its a huge cut above WOW. The game is over 4 years old, theres nothing new, its filled with gold spammers....The last expansion was a huge flop and many people agree this newest expansion coming is more of the same...

    bud?  LOL.

Ok, I should have said " the expansion is exactly 1 month and 1 day" away from being released."   Sorry, I didn't look at the date and do the calculation.

The point stands, it's still plenty of time for even a fairly casual player to get to lvl 70 and be at the same level as everyone else when the expansion hits.

It's the biggest thing on the market and a gaming phenomenon. You're doing yourself an injustice by not at least trying it. If you hate it that's fine, but at least you can say you've played it.

Um..  viral marketing at it's best

    1.  Warhammer has a huge gold-spammer problem, WOW solved theirs over two years ago. It' takes 2 mins of reading the forums to see which game has players complaining about gold-sellers.

    2. The last expansion for WOW sold 2.4 million copies on the first day, and 3.5M in the first week.  Warhammer has sold .75M copies in it's first month and has dropped down to #72 on the sales charts.  WOW is still currently number 1 on the sales charts.

    3. Wraith of the lich king is definitely 'more of the same'.   WOW has 10.7M people playing it ( 5M in NA and Europe) and the those numbers were released in July.. the game is still growing.   Why would they drastically change gameplay?   People love playing the game, it is fun, which is why so many people play it.

Warhammer is a niche pvp game the majority of gameplay is based around grinding exp/renown in tiny 10v10 scenarios

Ive played all the MMOs and WoW has by far, the best PVE and its polished. But it could use some extra PVP content.  The next xpack will add alot of both.  Im not one to boast about a game but I quit WoW and tried to find another MMO that was better and I couldnt find one.

I'm not sure if WoW will have what you're looking for. I've been playing for 4 years this month and am happily looking forward to a 5th with the expansion next month.

The PvE is very simple stuff. Get quest, go kill things and collect stuff to turn in.

Dungeons are a ton of fun with a decent group, but hell with a bad one.

PvE raiding is among the best you'll find.

PvP is varied and interesting if you want a change of pace.

Warcraft has a great "feel" to it when you play that's missing from other MMO's like it.

The only thing I can suggest is drop $20, start playing, go to the official forums for the server you choose, and find a guild to join immediately. If you go solo you just miss out too much.

Joining a guild is no big deal, so don't put it off. They can really help show you around to get an idea of what the phenomenon is all about, and you can ask a lot of questions you'll have instead of going to a forum to try to find an answer.

Asking for people opinions all well and good OP, best thing you can do is do the trial and judge for yourself m8.

    *my experience/opinion*

I tried the trial to it's end and was astounded how immature the player base was, the very first hour of loggin in was filled with 45 minutes of abuse towards another new player who asked a simple question.

My advice is try to select the right server for the trial, i have some friends who play on Hellfire and they say it's a good server and only notice minimal abuse in the chats.

DON'T be swayed by people in forums, there are good and bad points about every game, some don't see that though..  try for yourself m8 is best advice anyone can give.

I'm sorry I made you ask mommy when the 13nth of November is, bud.

Maybe that just hints at your intelligence (or rather perhaps lack of), but for me when I posted that, it was the 13nth of October, not much thinking going on to figure out its a month away.

And you are quite wrong about that month estimate. My friend got to 70 in a month, yet he was on practically all the time and begged me to run him through Wailing caverns one day, then next week he begged for Maurodon. That isn't casual. Besides, depending on class, it wont take a month unless you have a main to supply gold.

    Lets see...

Normal ground? 35+5 for mount, 60% speed

Epic is 500g (technically more or less depending on class and race) 100% speed

Then normal flying is 800+100 for mount, 60% speed land and air

And Epic flying? 5000+200 for mount for 280-310% air and 100% ground

Try telling me that you could honestly reach 70 and afford epic in a month and I'll tell you you have no life

Hell,  my friend only has normal flying but for the entire month he was on constantly, probably 10+ hours each day.

WoW isn't a bad game and is worth giving the trial a spin.  If you decide to purchase the game, end game content is either Raiding or PvP unless you go the crafter route (do that on a normal or rp server).

Raiding means finding a good guild or building a good reputation and get invited into guild pugs when they are short a person.  If you join most guilds, you will find yourself raiding most evenings along with trying to gather mats or consumables you will need for the raid.  You will also spend plenty of time or gold buying or looting from 5 man instances to get gear you can join raids in.  Granted, some guilds will run you thru the lower raid instances to help get you geared to get ready for the expansion, but with current drop rates and grind time to get to 70, doubt if you will get most of what you need in time.

PvP gear is easier to get thanks to the welfare epics from arena and battlegrounds.  Lots of open world PvP on PvP servers and normal servers or hit the battlegrounds or arenas for it.

I quit WoW last spring as I spent all of my time either at the Auction House buying ore and prospecting for gems, then cutting and selling the gems, or in Raids.  Usually raided 6 nights per week for 2-4 hours and spent remainder of the night farming the AH.  WoW became a second job for me so left it.  When they say there are no other MMO's that can compete with WoW, they are correct, but it wasn't the game for me.  Get the free trial, try the game and see if it is something you can like or not.  Nothing lost by trying it.

I played 196 game days from Jan 06 to Jan 08, the game can be addictive.  When the addiction becomes more of the second job syndrome, either quit or join a help group.

Who the heck needs an epic flying mount?    You don't even need a regular flying mount to get to level 70.  With the patch coming tomorrow, EXP need from 60-70 is getting reduced by 30%.  You can easily get to 70 while still in Nagrand (4 zones total in outlands).

Getting a flying mount now is a waste anyway since flying mounts won't even be usable in Wrath until you are level 77... so if you are a new player,  you quest to 58 in the old lands,  do 4 zones in outland and get to 70, move to Northrend and then at lvl 77 you buy your epic flying mount at the same time everyone else can finally start using theirs.

With all the changes to leveling ( xp from quests increased, exp needed to level reduced, mount at lvl 30).. it's very easy for a player to get a character to 70 in a month.

plus...if you use the recruit a friend program you get 3 times xp while grouped with that friend.

Like most have already stated... download the trial and form your own opinion. WoW like most other games has it's good and bad points, things that will appeal greatly to some and not at all to others. Only you can decide if the good out weighs the bad or vice versa. If you are more PvE oriented I would say give it a try, WoW has done a pretty good job in that aspect of the game and they have polished it quite a bit over the years since release. If you decided to try out PvP... do yourself a huge favor and pick another game.

Just curious, it's been years since I've played with the exception of a 'come back trial' about 6 months ago, is the Barrens chat still filled with so much middle school rhetoric you can actually feel brain cells committing suicide when being subjected to it?
