I have read an interesting article in the net around five years ago enumerating the clichés if an RPG. One of them is about RUMORS. In an RPG, once a person tells you a rumor, chances are, its true. I’ve seen a lot in Atlantica in the chat bar. I tried to actually go where the rumor starts and its really there…

i have a question about rumours though. how do they start? are they randomly generated by the system? or are they like series of whispers that grow to be rumors?

I'm thinking that it came from the players of the game? So series of whispers that eventually becomes a rumour? Kinda like in the real world... But, then again it could be just generated by the game... I haven't actually seen one so this are just all speculations....
Spreading rumors may be a way to spread out the word about a certain game, it is just like in showbiz, it is a way to be talked about by other people. Just like mmo's it thus can give an edge if we talked about the game, for an example, Atlantica Onine, I myself is a player, but I've heard some rumors, so I told my friends about it and they eventually got curios. So they will also play the game.

Its a game notice, if anyone has seen it. It goes something like There is a rumor that someone is selling something in someplace. I tried it once and there is someone who does. And its funny because it is supposed to be just a rumor.
