This is a huge patch with a ton of new content. There are also probably 5 million people all with their fingers on the button trying to get in the game at the same time.
I learned early on in UO that to play on a major patch day is a 'gift'. I don't expect it to happen. I must say I was amazed how quickly I got the patch downloaded.. only took about 10 mins.

Yeah, WoW has 1000 times more people trying to log on than any other MMO but this is something that Blizzard should be accustomed to by now.
I can only remember 1 or 2 times in the past couple years that have been this bad.
Also, this is in no way released in retaliation to Warhammer. This is just the patch to update all versions of WoW to the new expansion. They did it with TBC and they are doing it again now.

Blizzard is a multi-billion dollar company and they have more than enough operating capital to do a MUCH better job handling "patch days".
I understand that un-forseen circumstances occur when patching, however, blizzard should have taken the steps to ensure that the forum servers could handle the load of players seeking answers if things went sideways.
They simply did not plan properly....period.
It's one thing to not be able to get on and play, but there is no reason that a paying customer should not be able to get INFORMATION from a company the size of Blizzard.
I speak from first hand experience, I could not get on the game...no bigee, I check the "Realm Status" page - DOWN. So I decided to check the forums for an update - DOWN......for hours.
All flaming and WAR posturing aside you have to admit that the patch launch was a failure. They failed to launch a patch in the time they gave themselves and they gave themselves more time than normal.

Yup. There are some parts of today's events that really get under my skin:
* When I patched and loaded beta, there was no such downtime. Why? It's the same build.
* Blizzard forums need to be put onto separate hardware. Today's crap illustrates this clearly.
* For a standard MMO, patch days are hell. For a company with 15 times the income of a standard MMO and TWO active tests for this patch running concurrently, this is inexcusable.

Heh I don't even play WoW anymore and found this comical. How is he a fanboy for what he said? This is not like your usual cycle. It's basic intelligence. The OP made a statement somewhere on a post that Blizzard has competition breathing down its neck. WAR was what he meant. WAR has sold 800k boxes....now that's just boxes and not subscriptions as they haven't hit that point yet. WoW has 9-10 million subscribers....how the hell is that breathing down their neck? I'm in accounting but my ten year old son could figure that's not even close!
So no his statement has nothing to do with being a fanboy. It's the simple fact of the matter if no one likes it or not. The numbers are there to prove whether we like the game or detest it. You're talking about a cycle but none of those games had the numbers WoW has and on such a consistent basis. Not even close. I think i will play the game where your personal lets you overcome classes your not supposed to beat easily. This is a huge patch with a ton of new content. There are also probably 5 million people all with their fingers on the button trying to get in the game at the same time.
I learned early on in UO that to play on a major patch day is a 'gift'. I don't expect it to happen. I must say I was amazed how quickly I got the patch downloaded.. only took about 10 mins.

This is a bad patch, plain and simple.
Yeah, WoW has 1000 times more people trying to log on than any other MMO but this is something that Blizzard should be accustomed to by now.
I can only remember 1 or 2 times in the past couple years that have been this bad.
Also, this is in no way released in retaliation to Warhammer. This is just the patch to update all versions of WoW to the new expansion. They did it with TBC and they are doing it again now.
However, this will definitely result in a free day credited to your account.

Blizzard is a multi-billion dollar company and they have more than enough operating capital to do a MUCH better job handling "patch days".
I understand that un-forseen circumstances occur when patching, however, blizzard should have taken the steps to ensure that the forum servers could handle the load of players seeking answers if things went sideways.
They simply did not plan properly....period.
It's one thing to not be able to get on and play, but there is no reason that a paying customer should not be able to get INFORMATION from a company the size of Blizzard.
I speak from first hand experience, I could not get on the game...no bigee, I check the "Realm Status" page - DOWN. So I decided to check the forums for an update - DOWN......for hours.

All flaming and WAR posturing aside you have to admit that the patch launch was a failure. They failed to launch a patch in the time they gave themselves and they gave themselves more time than normal.

i have to agree, this is another time they've done a horrible job patching. granted i never expect patch day to go very well--but i have to wonder wtf they're doing with all that money they get from us. i don't have a problem with it taking longer--i DO however have a problem with them saying at around 5-5:30 PST that they had fixed the retrieving character list problem when it wasn't fixed, and of course the forums are down so can't let them know that they didn't fix it.
Yup. There are some parts of today's events that really get under my skin:
* When I patched and loaded beta, there was no such downtime. Why? It's the same build.
* Blizzard forums need to be put onto separate hardware. Today's crap illustrates this clearly.
* For a standard MMO, patch days are hell. For a company with 15 times the income of a standard MMO and TWO active tests for this patch running concurrently, this is inexcusable.

Heh I don't even play WoW anymore and found this comical. How is he a fanboy for what he said? This is not like your usual cycle. It's basic intelligence. The OP made a statement somewhere on a post that Blizzard has competition breathing down its neck. WAR was what he meant. WAR has sold 800k boxes....now that's just boxes and not subscriptions as they haven't hit that point yet. WoW has 9-10 million subscribers....how the hell is that breathing down their neck? I'm in accounting but my ten year old son could figure that's not even close!

You're talking about a cycle but none of those games had the numbers WoW has and on such a consistent basis. Not even close. The people that play WoW can keep playing all you want. I moved to Warhammer for a better PvP experience.
Which to me WoW is lacking for the most part. When players win in PvP because they have the better gear doesn't mean they are the better player. That is why I like Warhammer better because a players skill means alot more. But still a higher lvl player for the most part will beat the lower lvl player majority of the time.

I think i will play the game where your personal lets you overcome classes your not supposed to beat easily. Wish that was the case with Shaman. With all the CC and Anti CC the new patch gave everyone but them, there's no way to win any fight with one.

WAR is WoWs competetion...and they know it...And Blizz is slightly scared Mythic has birthed one of the best MMO's ever(even though it was shortly lived due to ToA) and that would be DAoC and now with the finacial push they had by EA they birthed possibly another one with WAR.
