Good thing about KOTORO/Old Republic

HaukenHauken Member UncommonPosts: 649

One of the things I think will benefit this game is the fact that they dont have to take into account the lore from the movies. This era gives them a lot of freedom to develop characters, professions, stories and lore.

Who will rule? the Sith or the Republic? I dont care as long as I get paid for my hard merchendaise.

and there were lots of jedi, so it won't seem rediculous when you see them running around.

    NICE VISION

I do hope we will have the ability to have free trade and a cool and complex crafting system. You really had to have talent to succeed as a Trader / Merchant in SWG. I also hope there is a neutral faction as well...Real Smuggling would be nice as well.

I hope that we still have the opportunity to PVP for whichever side we choose.

Nothing quite like having a group of friends decked out in Storm trooper armor (or the equivalent) chasing down a bunch of flagged rebel scum...

    Agree with you...I DO!

However, the thing I could never get over was the fact that REBS and IMPS seemed to group together all too often. They would always be seen socializing and what not in the Pubs and Canteens. I never really felt we were at War. If anything, I want to have a real hate for the other side!

Star Wars without PvP would be like a harem without women. Makes no sence. And I wont choose sides, if there is a price on your head, then im comming for you.....

I really hope to hunt smugglers, assasins, other bounty hunters, spies, criminals and generally other nice peoples. Not sure about how i wish the system for BH should be. Only that if you do something bad, expect a visit. Kinda excited about what this game will offer in that regard.

While I am hopeful that the new Bioware game will have great combat, factions and consentual PvP, I also hope the developers take advantage of gving the noncombat side of the game serious depth, which will make for a much more cohesive community and attract the not-so-hard-core combatant  and social types types.

I was never so much of a true SW fan, so the breaks lore don't really bother me much -  - but I was certainly irked when SWG became so Jedi centric at the cost of the rest of the player professions and the general well being of the game.

so you want them to split rebs and imps up like horde and alliance? in my opinion this ruins the community. in star wars everyone mixes with each other and its politics that decides the war..plus there will be no rebels (as we know them)  because its before that time period.

Say no to fixed factions, let the players actions decide who he/she is.

While I mostly agree with this, I am already dreading seeing Sith and Jedi lounging together and having a cold beer....or better yet, a marriage. XD

Yes you are right and I really think that given the right mechanic, faction mixing can be used as an exploit. It just depends on what they are planning. Guess we will see on the 21st.

I loved that about swg.  I was hardcore pvp and almost always on overt rebel.  Toward release moenia was a very rebel town and I would hang out there alot since naboo happened to be my favorite planet.  We always new who the imps were and would often smack talk (half rping) to provoke a fight that would turn into a skirmish that would end up having 2 guilds going back and forth between moenia and theed. Rebs vs Imps.  Its also very star warsy to have the 2 factions intertwine as some are not as vocal (covert vs overt) as others but are part of a guild or just generally support one way or another.

The problem is that even in KOTORs days, while there were could have been a few thousand jedi running about...there to trillions of normal people. I still think jedi should be rare in KOTOR.

This would be excellent.  Perhaps a "Fableesque" system where the more evil (or good) you become the more your appearance changes.  Look at how becoming a Sith affects the movie and game characters.

The best way to do that is have many other cool and viable professions.

    Or none at all.

If this does actually turn out to be a Kotor MMO I fully expect a class system much like they had in the single player game.  You have your basic Jedi classes and then Jedi mastery classes although I also expect very little freedom to customize characters.

    That makes little sense...

The 1st KOTOR game was a single player game. Few customization options work for single player games, but MMOs are another story. You want players to have the ability to set themselves apart from others.

I think if this project was underfunded you may get a bare-bones type game. However, Lucas Arts and BiOWARE have the means to make any game they wish. The question is...

What kind of game do they Want to make?

. . .and that, my friend, is the burning question.

Will Bioware be given the freedom needed to make the game their own, or will LA step in to restrict everything and set unrealistic goals?

I think it should be 3 groups, sith, jedi and in between everyone else doing work for either of them.  So its kind of like 3 factions but one is neutral.

Unfortunately, if you have the neutral class "doing things" for the other two classes it becomes a subservient class and therefor undesired, then you run into the same problem that post NGE SWG ran into where there is an overabundance of jedi running around because the jedi class is seen as above other classes many ways. If there is to be any ballance in this game, and by ballance I mean the kind of ballance which comes naturally and is not based on game restrictions, the only way I see that happening is if players have the same sort of freedoms which Pre-CU SWG offered. It was those freedoms to choose without many limits that kept the game ballanced, it allowed people to express themselves in many ways and guarded the game against any sort of build up in one or two particular players classes. In economics the market always moves towards equilibrium, in SWG when the jedi class became elite in the NGE system the equilibrium, if you transfer this economic rule to gameplay of SWG, moved to an overabundance of jedi. If this natural equilibrium is to foster fun, it must be reached in an environment where each choice has it's advantages over another, and it's disadvantage to another choice at the same time so that it evens out. Players should, in my opinion, become good at a game not simply through choosing an overpowerd class, but through exploreing a class, learning it, and becomeing more proficient than another player in being that class.

Also, remember, most of the old Pre-CU SWG development team is working on this yet to be officially announced MMO, if this is in fact a Star Wars MMO, it may logically be concluded that large portions of Pre-CU SWG, or at least the most successfull portions with possible modifications, will be incorporated into this new game.

well neutral would also include bounty hunters and those guys go after anyone who fits the price. To me that is more desirable than a sith or jedi.

Oh shit, already started. BH vs Jedi. You've just ruined the game before its been announced, Ronan. BH vs Jedi is exactly the reason I don't even want Jedi in the game. It'll just become a giant bitch fest between the two.

well if they have bounty hunter, jedi, sith, smuggler, commando, droid engineer...then it adds more grey to the black and white you see.
