Don't make the same mistake and listen to certain people here who say servers are booming. Wait for FC to finish the game and give veteran players that free month. Then servers might become more populated again. At least for that free month.

There are 4 servers in NA that are fine, and I think 3 in Europe.   You really have to do your research before playing this game.

If you are coming back to AOC and are not on 'a real server'.. just give up and reroll.

To be fair, I don't see much of that here (this site). It's pretty much common knowledge servers need merging badly. There are a few that have a resemblence of normal MMO server activity, not many though.

I am on a pretty good server and I tend to see people everywhere and groups aren't too far off.  Mini games are accessible instantly most normal times (i.e. 5+ pm).  If they merge servers which they will then population will really be up there.  Strangely...maybe not so strangely, since WAR has been released the population has gone up.  Then again I jumped on WAR for 2 weeks thinking it would be the game that killed AoC off for me but since playing WAR I realised AoC had more to offer and certainly more fun.  My personal preference so I guess some people felt the same way.

What I don't understand is why they waited so long to start planning server merge?

There should have been less servers in the first place and once the population numbers started to drop, server merge should have been instant.

AOC had a lot on their plates the first few months just getting the client patched etc.  It's not surprising they didn't bother thinking about server mergers when they were dealing with the female swing speed problem and the gem problem.

about the servers at launch...  probably the biggest mistake Blizzard made at launch was not having enough servers.  It's not surprising that both AOC and Warhammer launched with too many servers and are now suffering.. they both 'overlearned' the mistake of Blizzard.

Because both AOC and Warhammer are based around pvp.. the gameplay suffers much more than a game that is based on PvE.   I play one of the least populated servers in WOW, and it doesn't hurt my gameplay at all.. I actually picked it because I knew crafting would be easier and there would be less lag.  In Warhammer... players randomly run through the RvR lake only to find nobody to fight.

This is normal for AoC sadly, you hear a story of people coming back only to be bored or unable to play cos of bugs.

They really do need to merge servers for the poor saps sticking it out, and donating their money to Funcom.

I don't know any of my friends who cancelled account, that would consider going back for any reason.   Not with how Funcom treats its customers.   Gamers need to send a message to companies like that, and the best way to speak is with your wallet.

That last sentence just bugged me...it's like he doesn't want the game to succeed. I don't understand why people want any game to fail. Even the games I don't particularly like I want to succeed. I want to see Funcom improve the game enough that people will come back for that free month and continue to play. It's just the tone he used...

The talk of server population is also not completely true. There are servers with quite a bit of people. We all know about the 5 that pop up most frequently as having healthy populations.

BTW...I lurk the AoC general forums and I don't see an "I'm quitting" thread that often at all. So, I wouldn't exactly call it normal. I don't see people complaining of bugs all that much either. The latency is what I see most. Other than that...could you link my a few of other popular bugs that have recently caused people to leave?

They instantly outright delete them, the I am leaving forums. Not instantly as they let the FANBOIS post 6 or 8 mean GO - LEAVE THEN - Sissy types posts then they close and delete them.  Thats why you dont see them. I regularly troll them at work and they are constantly deleting those posts.  I see it EVERYDAY.

Servers have seen a lot more life lately, whether you like it or not, boomtown. Most people have come back to a more polished AoC, except for this individual who is probably running it from his NES. All be it funcom tweaked the video settings so older systems could run the game, but on the other hand let's not go that far.

Orly? I logged into Zug over the weekend and I could not find a group much less anyone to talk to online. the chat channels were nearly dead and it felt alot like a single player game.

People who say servers are anything else but ghost towns, are either FC employees or current players feeling lonely playing a single player game.

Fixed that for you, yes most servers are ghost towns that's no secret. Why would they even acknowledge the need for server merges, if this wasn't the case?

They have to give time for the plebs to forget their previous promises about server merge. (There will be no server merge.)
