Having tried it, what do you think of the new patch?

This thread is for those who have played the game since the patch, read the patch notes, and fiddled with all the new control and options.  I'd like to get some opinions about the changes.

Only thing so far that I don't like is that Rogues can no longer make poisons, rather they are bought from vendors.  I do like the fact that I don't have to carry around a bunch of stuff for poisons, which I'm assuming was the reason for the change, but still I liked being able to brew my own poisons rather than purchase them.  I'll get used to it, but it was a letdown.

Other than losing all my mounts cause i sent them to pet tab then the game crashed, i am very happy with.

    Achievements Rock!

Classes bring much flavor to the staling setup.

UI and other changes for the most part make the game even easier to use and less burdened when playing

    Shadows are nice too.

So all and all good but i want my bear back >.< !!!!!

Hype is my nemesis. i will fight it til the day i die whether i take it down or it takes me down. So depressing, Yes?

I can see what you mean, Pappy.  I've always been a fan of crafting rather than buying, but think you're right on the reasons why they made the change.  In fact, there's been a lot of space-saving ideas implimented and I like all of them.  The currency tab is the greatest since I had those battleground marks cluttering my bags and stopping at 99 so it's nice to see that cleared out and still be able to use them.  Vanity pets and mounts is a nice touch, that saved me 2 bag-slots and 2 bank-slots from just mounts, 1 bag-slot for vanity.  It's nice to be able to look in my bags without all that stuff in the way.

Losing your mounts O_o?  I'd open a ticket for that one, did you do that yet?

Achievements are interesting.  I'm not sure if I'll pursue them individually or not, but always nice to get that extra "well done!" when completing things that weren't previously recognized as milestones.

I'm very happy with what they did for my paladin, I believe soloing will be a lot easier and battlegrounds more interesting for pally.  I haven't played all classes and abilities, but overall it sounds just plain better.

UI is a bit smaller giving a better viewing area, which is smart.  Overall the game seem sped-up a bit, don't know if that's the case or what's going on, but it's a good thing.

Shadows add a third dimension to the game, very very happy to see them here finally.  It seems a lot more real now and dynamic.

After a very bumpy first day its great now.

Had a lot of fun taking a Devilsaur to Kara.

Pretty much everything is great.    I play a lot of alts, so some of my classes I'm still 'relearning' because some of them play a little differently now.

I'm a fanboy, so I'm going to bait some of the haters by saying stuff that is negative about the patch LOL

    1.  Most of the exotic pets are too annoying to actually use.. The corehounds and devilosaurs in particular.  I honestly think people wil 'kick' a BM hunter from a group just because of this.  I mean they are REALLY annoying (and I have a strong tolerance).  They need to remove the footsounds and the screenshake.  I'm a bit disappointed in this because it is something we've been reporting for a month on beta.  Edit:  I know a lot of that can be avoided by turning off ambiance sound.. but I like all my sounds, even music, to be on while playing.

    2. Instances and raids are almost 'story-mode' right now.  In a way this is great so that everyone can see the instances before they become obsolete... but the 30% nerf to raid mobs was a bit too much.  I think they did the 30% nerf to mobs in response to the nerf to healing.. but then didn't take into account our new talents and glyphs.  I bear-tanked kaz and 2 heroics last night and it was just really really easy-mode.

    3. The calendar thing isn't as functionable as I would like.  It's a neat tool for some players, but if you are member of a large guild (and not the guildmaster) you are really limited on what you can do with it.  I guess you can say this is my fault because I didn't give any feedback during beta on this.

But overall it is awesome.. There are little nuggets which just make my gameplay SOOO much better.  Being an alt-aholic..  being able to enchant my alts gear is just HUGE.  Also the pets/tokens/mounts change is nice.

I just really can't wait til you all can play Lake Wintergrasp and Strands.  They are such a huge improvement on current pvp in the game.

Question on that.  I see a lot of new hunter pets.  Is that a Blizzcon thing or did they make it possible to tame more?  I saw a kurken and an infernal-looking kurken.

  • aristoculousaristoculous Member Posts: 159

game looks better, textures look crisper, and I'm not even mentioning the new great looking shadows.

Spell effects for my warlock look great, especially health funnel on pets, reminds me of a dark jedi lol.

All other additions are great as well haven tried Inscription yet, which is by the way in game part of an update and not an expansion, unlike Jewel crafting in TBC.

All around great changes, 51 point talents look really useful all around.

  • AzrileAzrile Member Posts: 2,582

BM hunter's have a 51 point talent that allows them to tame 'exotic' pets

    Devilosaurs, Corehounds, Sithilid and Chimirrae.

There were also a few more pets families that all hunters can tame.  Moths and Wasps I think are the only two.  They also added a few more tameables to a few different families of pets

Google petopia if you want to see it all.

So true about re-learning everything for us alt-aholics, but am looking forward to it.

Yeah, the screenshake I saw while in the auctionhouse and it is pompous and annoying.

I really like the calendar.  It was hard getting new guildies to download the old add-on and use it, so having it integrated in the game makes it easy and automatic so that everyone in the guild knows what events are coming up.  Also, I like how you can turn off the things you don't care about (for me that's Darkmoon Faire and other festivals).  This feature to me is better than the previously implemented in-game voicechat.  Our guild encourages everyone to create events.  If it can't be done on calendar, they can mention it and I'd put it up or send me a mail if I'm not on and I'd list it.

I'm looking forward to the PvP portion as well, it does sound very interesting.

  • AzrileAzrile Member Posts: 2,582

yeah, that is basically what I don't like.   Only the guild leader can do mass-invites for guild events and as far as I can tell, you can't even do it on alts and there is no way to be able to promote guildmembers to be able to do it.

Pretty nice patch so far . I like the new graphic on some stuff ( lol troll ) and the achievement even tough my old 60 priest didint get some classic raid  kill .

  • ghogielghogiel Member Posts: 166

Been overjoyed w/ the Patch so far - WoW feels very refreshing (actually felt better than BC was released).
    Here we go:
    * new hairstyles, ability to change hairstyles
    * achievements ! had already fell in love w/ Achievements since Team Fortress 2 - and now I have it here in WoW ! woot-ness ! and actually not only the achievement - I like the 'Statistics' window too.
    * Retribution Paladin - I recently unshelved my lvl 60 pally, spec'd ret and got totally blown w/ what she can do. I understand now why people are asking for nerfs, even Blizzard had made a (actually two) new catch-phrase popular: "Don't Nerf me, Bro !" and "TO THE GROUND, BABY !"
    * glyphs ! they're awesome ! This is a very good way to customise important spells in addition to Talent trees.
    * shadows. well, they look great for the first hour playing patch 3 - but after it settles in - it doesn't feel that great anymore.
    * many little things, such as bonuses you get from having certain professions (crit for skinning, +health for mining, HoT spell for Herbalism)
    * Stormwind Harbour
    * Target dummies
    * Mounts & tokens not taking bag space anymore.

Glyphs are cool.  Since I recently started a new account I've only got one toon, a rogue, but so far I like the way they've adjusted the talent trees.  No flash powder is great, I was always running out on my old rogue.  I haven't checked yet but am assuming that since poisons are no longer crafted, the quest to learn them is gone... damn, good-bye free lockpicking skill-ups.  Reduced cooldowns on sprint, vanish, and evasion make grinding a bit easier.  All in all, I like the changes.

  • saint4Godsaint4God Member Posts: 699

Glyphs are pretty cool indeed.  Instead of overcomplicating the talent tree, these are like 'armor kits' for spells / talents.  I had a friend say "ye want summae ther glyphs?" (he's dwarven) to which I gratefully accepted.  It was like being a kid in a candy store.  I'm very fortuntate that my main is a warrior because Titan's Grip is awesome: being able to carry a two-handed weapon in each hand!  Now this expansion needs to come out so I can get some better axes.

  • XiaokiXiaoki Member EpicPosts: 4,050

NOTE - the foot stomps for Devilsaurs and Core Hounds are being removed.

I tried Titans Grip on my Warrior but I didnt like it. I dont have near enough +hit to make it worthwhile. Specced Sudden Death an Ive been having fun with it. Having Intercept proc Sudden Death is awesome. Nothing quite like starting a fight with an Execute.

The changes to Ret Paladins soon are troubling but expected. They say DPS will stay the same but I highly doubt it.

Leveled Inscription to maxand I like it.

Foot stomps removed?  Huzzah!  I mean, hooray!

I agree, Titans Grip isn't effective yet, but the potential is certainly there upon expansion release.  If there were no expansion coming out, I'd battleground grind for 2 two-handers, but am sure the greens will blow them away.

Why are changed to Ret paladins troubling?

  • AzrileAzrile Member Posts: 2,582

I really didn't think Ret Pallys were very OP in pvp anyway.   Basically they have a lot of upfront abilities that all were getting bonuses against stunned players.  They've taken away some of that upfront damage and spread it out during the fight (supposedly).

I think the big theorycrafters have concluded that if the fight lasts more than 20 seconds it is a net gain for the pally, and it is break even from 10-20 seconds.  It's a pretty huge nerf for the first 5 seconds though..  Basically Ret pallys were getting Ambush type numbers upfront without having to set up their target or be stealthed like rogues

  • saint4Godsaint4God Member Posts: 699

Having played and fought pallies in battlegrounds, Paladins are a beast.  They last forever because of the number of bubbles they can produce and in some cases still attack while bubbled.  Add to that the heals and a pally hardly dies unless s/he does something way too brave.

Hmmm... Are the improvements good enough to reopen my account? The new hunter improvements sound interesting...wasn't real happy with how they nerfed the normal 5 man instances with the last patch, have they fixed that?

I've seen things, you...people, wouldn't believe... . Attack ships on fire, off the shoulder of Orion... . I watched C-Beams, glitter in the darkness near the Tannhauser Gate... . All those...moments will be lost in time... . Like...tears...in the rain...

It really depends on how much you'd enjoyed the game when you played it.  If you really liked it but there was nothing new, I'd say re-sub for a month.  If it became way to boring and you need sweeping changes to even consider it, I'm not sure it would be worth popping back in at least until the expansion comes out to see what else the game as to offer.  Many of us old-school players don't like change for the most part.  For example, when my spouse saw the talent-tree revamp there was much grumbling.  For me, I saw it as an opportunity to try something new and find it much improved.

Maybe a poll is in order:

worst patch ever. everything is unbalanced. All i hear is QQ its balanced at 80! yeah but wtf about the 70-79 stages. stupid worthlessness. lol

I'm off to bed soon so don't have time to explain why, but i personally can't stand the new update and neither can my brother. I quit a few months ago, my brother did last night. I can see this being the begining of the end of WoW, very poor update.

  • saint4Godsaint4God Member Posts: 699

I must admit, I'm befuddled by the 'worst patch ever' sort of comments, especially those without explanation.  The only thing I can think of that would cause such is those who feel the paladins and hunters got too much out of this one whereas perhaps the class they play didn't.  I'll be playing more over the weekend, perhaps I'll bump into a reason why things aren't better.

  • PinkCatPinkCat Member Posts: 218

It feels like WoW, It looks like WoW and it plays like WoW.  Great for those with OCD imo. I think it is a good patch considering the turn around on Blizzard's  content release technique.  Gamers are dying for something new and refreshing and sadly this is not it, but it is polished. Yeay!
