looking for a space flight mmo

does anyone know where I can find a good 3d massivly online space flight multiplayer game?

i know there is eve online and darkspace but those are not the games I am looking for. because they are point and click or just plain capital ship combat. actually, I am a space flight sim jocky and currently use a Saitek Cyborg evo stick.

the major last online game I played so far was RaiderWars which was back in the late 90s.
Which was over here: http://www.raiderwars.com/

i was also disappointed when ManKind was an RTS space mmo instead of a shooter.

also played starlancer as multiplayer, i-war 2, and even the old X-Wing game back in the mid 90s..

i'm still looking for at least ANY twitch based(or joystick controled) 3d space combat to play, and don't care if it's pay to play or not.

just because, I remember back in the old days, most space games had a player being put into a cockpit of a fighter and today I am sad to see more people are interested in RTS space combat than wing-commander type games.

but I am looking for an mmo where you can fly your ship using a JOYSTICK.

and the game you mentoined, EVE is a space game using point and click methods like everquest.

    try again.

Try Vendetta Online.  It's not out yet, but its a twitch shooter rather than a point and click space sim.  It may be what you are looking for.

it comes out at the end of this month i believe.

Hey maybe this is obvious and maybe I missed you mentioning it -- but Star Wars Galaxies is coming out with "Jump to Lightspeed" in the next few weeks.  This will be real-time space flight combat with your own ship that you personally control.  Check out the variety and depth of the expansion -- it's pretty impressive.  This will be playable with a joystick like any other space flight sim Wing Commander type game.  The "ground" portion of the game obviously involves more standard MMorpg fare - but you could focus on space stuff if you like.  I played SWG for months and enjoyed it quite a bit - the space flight element doesn't really grab me personally - but you'd probably love it.

Star wars Galaxies, Jump to lightspeed. The space flight in this game is twitched based and joystick compatiable. Rumors say that the team who developed wing commander worked on this part of the Star wars galaxies. WARNING: I must tell you the world based part of this game is very low in content. I dont know if the same can be said for the space part.

ok, as for x2-online, that game will not be out for a couple of years from now.

as for swg jump to light speed, do I really have to buy the original game and the expansion pack in order to get the space combat expansion pack? if so, then I might not be interested in this game.

vendetta online, I will be looking fowards to this game at the end of the month.. looks interesting.

    anymore?

I dont know anything about it and perhaps its already been mentioned but what about Jumpgate?

  • BillenBillen Member Posts: 42

Jumpgate isn´t good looking, but it has a feeling to it that no other games has. Probably because there are no other games quite like it. Jumpgate really gets your adrenaline going, and there aren´t many games that accomplishes that.

Try Jumpgate,  the graphics are out-dated and the community is small (but very tight-knit) , it has very intense PvP, and is joystick based.

Be warned the learning curve is steep and PvP can happen to ANYONE, ANYTIME, ANYWARE.

    EU version -> http://www.mightygames.co.uk

I don't know much about the SWG space expack, far as how you get the ships... but if its anything like trying to get faction armor like stormtrooper armor or even an AT-ST, it might require hours of mindnumbing boredom doing gnort destroy missions ;)

hopefully not, but it wouldn't surpise me knowing them.

Yes, you will need the ground game to get JTL. The ground game can be found at most places for around $20, and JTL will be around $30. The total monthly fee will be around $15 a month, depending on how big a payment block you do.

The biggest downside to JTL is it requires you to actually play in the ground game to buy better ships and the like. The ground game is quite lacking in many regards, and SOE has made it quite clear that they have no real intention of changing this, so JTL may or may not be for you.

If you really want MMO Space Flight then I must say I played Jumpgate, its an older program, graphics are basic (But this also works for the game) the contect is low but there is fun to be had.

I have considered reactivating my account a few times as it was the one game that I enjoyed, I tried Eve and other games and that point and click is just not as fun and enjoyable as flying the ship for yourself.

With Jumpgate they managed to get the feel of space and putting you in control of your ship is nice. There are area's where your mostly safe and can go about your way but it is PvP so you have to always be ready. Although when I played it was not that bad for PvP all depends where you are and what your doing.

i'm taking a look at Jumpgate... I think this game is aimed towards the european audiences only.. mostly german.

if I lived in europe, then sure I would go try out this game, however, I live in north america instead.

so I wouldent think it would be worth a hassle trying to find out how to pay US cash for Jumpgate.

  • BillenBillen Member Posts: 42

Jumpgate is an american game. In Europe it is hosted by "Mighty Games", in the US it is run by the developers, Netdevil. Try clicking here.

And oh, paying with "us dollars" over the net is just like when we enter our magical european VISA numbers. It´s all fixed automagically.

There is a US version of Jumpgate. The EU and US server's are entirely two different entities. http://www.jossh.com is the American site. The game isn't bad although it's graphics are dated. It is, however, in a steady decline into the pits of no return. The community is all but gone or migrated to various other MMOs. I don't recommend you try it.

Wow did not realize it went down that much.

There was alot of people playing when it first came out. I guess with the dated graphics people have all decided to jump ship and go to other MMo's.

It wasn't the graphics. It was the gameplay, ingame economy, and constantly buggy code. The staff of JG repeatedly disappointed/pissed off their player base. After about 3 years and no improvement all but a few have moved on.

Netdevil should of updated the graphics for Jumpgate instead of adding more gameplay to it not realizing that will screw over people more and more.

  • DremarDremar Member Posts: 15

I was playing it for a while, mind you that was when it was first out mostly and when they have alot of people online.

I did not find there to be much lacking in game play other then the normal things you find with online games (repetative).

Yes it would have been nice to have better graphics but once you add graphics you add lag for the most part, and the game was good for that, after all we all know what its like playing an FPS and getting lag spikes.

It was a good game for its time, and I guess its time is coming to an end. The problem now is that there are so many games out there that its hard to get alot of people to play and stay with it.
