It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
1. Pick a side you can enjoy.
2. Make sure that class you are playing, is "you". If you're not a healer, don't play one.
3. Do the quests, read teh stories, if you see a PQ with peeps, hop in.
4. Queue up for Scenario's but make sure you are busy doing other things while you wait.
5. Don't rush to 40. You'll out level most players, hit a dead area and wonder why you're all alone... not everyone lives with Mom and has 40 hours a week to game.
6. Open World RVR. See it's going on, join in. Trust me a few keep raids and you'll understand the soul of WAR.

You forgot this, which many believe is a leading problem amoungst some players - This game is NOT WoW. So dont play it like it is. Because its not, and therefore you will just sit there dieing or having no fun. Take War for what it is - WAR - play it as a new game and you will find it rewarding. Trying to shoehorn your WoW playstyle into WAR will fail. But then if you cant do that without being told, you'll never get on with it.
Oh and my best tip for having fun - DONT LISTEN TO BODYBAGS and his 9 MILLION! (see, this is how we get through to WoW players...be dumb to them!) alts, because he just spouts lies!
Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!
My list is just:
1) Have a big helpful and mature guild.
Without a guild you can almost forget things such as:
Keep taking, PQ's, PvP or anything really.
$OE lies list

"
And I don't want to hear anything about "I don't believe in vampires" because *I* don't believe in vampires, but I believe in my own two eyes, and what *I* saw is ******* vampires! "
THAT is the point in War
Actually, this is one game where I think guilds are a minor point. I've been able to quest solo, PQ in a pug (if absolutely necessary), and join scenarios solo, and just play with the group I'm in. As some have pointed out, there are even advantages to playing a scenario in your own team. I love just jumping in for a quick quest/PQ/Scenario (and hopefully soon RvR, when they are worth it).
I especially agree with the op's 2. post. Pick a healer if that's really what you want to do. Don't do it for the attention. Not in this game, at least.
I have a simpler approach to having fun: log in, check the 'Open Groups' menu, look at the groups and what ther're doing, join one and pitch in. The Open Group system is probably the single best feature of this game, IMO. But then, I'm not trying to power-level or earn phat lootz, I'm just trying to enjoy my game time.
oh sure you CAN play that game solo and you can reach max level and maybe even RR rank 80 solo but I doubt many players will have fun with it. Fun is to win once in a while. Solo you will lose about 90% of all fights (be it in a zerg or solo in the open field). If you can have fun that way, all the power to you but many people think Warhammer is a stupid grind and an overall un-fun game just because they never played in a nice group. The reason for that is that War doesn't push you into groups like most MMOs do. You can do everything without help.
The problem is that in order to be sucessful in Warhammer a group (or better a huge guild) is absolutely necessary. The game makes you believe you can play it alone while it is designed to be played in groups, guilds and warbands.
Solo you will feel the grind. You might feel it in a group too but solo nearly everbody will feel that the game is a mindless grind, while in group, guilds and warbands it CAN be great fun.
I thought about adding guilds, but really, a guild is a personal choice. If you HAVE to have a guild, go for it, if you don't you can get by just fine so far as we can tell... so I didn't feel "get in a good guild" was important.
If you're playing WAR and thinking WoW, playing it like WoW and getting upset, look in the mirror, and slap the ever loving s*** out of yourself, sit down at the comp and repeat "I am playing WAR" three times.
Repeat as often as needed to get it into your thick skull WAR is not WoW and playing it like WoW = epic phail.
