in game vision

in EQ I would always play a dark elf because they had the best night vision. Anyone know if this is the case in EQ2? Is there different vision? I personally don't like that each race has different vision capabilities. I think it makes the races uneven.
I really hope that EQ2 goes away from giving races better night vision than others. cuz if you didnt have good night vision it was almost pointless to play at night. you could see three feet in front of you.

anyone know if this is the case?

Different races get different vision abilities. Dark elves have the best IMO, along with some other races.

P.S.- Turn your gamma up and it is fine with any race.

There will be Ultravision (like the Dark Elves), Infravision (seeing heat), and Sonic Vision (seeing movement).

I think it rocks, and adds flavor to the races. Vision types would not destroy game balance that much. I bet if your a human, you could carry a light source.

  • ElElyonElElyon Member UncommonPosts: 219

well you can carry a light source, but that just makes it so you can see three feet instead of one.
I think giving different races different visions is a bad idea. but it sounds like that is the case so I guess that means I will have to take that into account when picking a character.

does anyone know of a link where all the bonuses for all the races can be found, like troll regen and dark elf vision?

I read somewhere in the EQ2 official FAQ that no races will have unique abilities like they did in EQ1. Trolls will not have enhanced regen, or ogres the immunity to slam, etc. I do not believe they mentioned sight abilities from what I remember, but I would think that falls in the same category.

Everything born must die. All that is, will come to ruin. This is the essence of Doom. So sayeth the Doomsayer.

yep trolls do not get regen and ogres are no longer immune to stun (i.e. no more racial bonuses). but, there are lots of different visions ultravision, infravision, sonic vision, aura vision, and i think one more, cant remember the name of it right now.

this talks about a few of them

Vision types vary quite a bit from those in EQ1. For the most part, they are activated abilities that last for a given duration rather than something that persists all the time. There will be new variations on some of the vision types used in EQ1, plus some new ones that we'll reveal in the near future. They all have unique visual elements that are much more impressive when seen rather than just described in print.
Infravision (the ability to see heat signatures), a native ability of Elves and other races, truly looks like what you would expect by its name. Naturally, the undead, having no heat whatsoever, cannot be seen at all when in this mode.  These vision types include sonicvision, infravision, and a few other types.
Ultravision gives everything a purplish hue. In infravision you see the heat signatures of things. And this is actually incorporated into the game more than just graphically. Infravision might be great in a Gnoll camp at night, but in an Undead tunnel you won't see squat. Every creature in the game has been flagged as Warm-Blooded, Cold-Blooded or No-Blooded. So everything will show up in varying degrees of blues, reds and oranges, or just not show up at all. Walking down that aforementioned tunnel in Infravision you'd think it was completely safe and clear of enemies until that first blow landed on your unprepared skull.
Under no circumstances will it ever be too dark for anyone to see--human, barbarian, and erudite characters will be able to see just fine in the dark.
As for the glasses, you will have several optional tints to choose from, including clear. I believe they're only for gnomes and ratongas.

I am certain that, as with EQlive, any vision impared races will be able to obtain in game items/artifacts that will enhance you vision.  Like Serpent rings etc....

I have found this list in several places on the official eq2 forums. apparently the vision abilities are not "always on". You are able to toggle them on and off. It has also been stated that they won't make as huge of an effect as they did in eq. Meaning that if you choose a race without special vision then you won't feel quite as gimped as you did in eq. I remember stumbling around with my human not ever realizing that I had been running face first into a wall......

I feel like this list may not be 100% correct... It seems kinda strange to alienate just two races.... but on the other hand they are the to that make the most sense.

This is what we know about which races has what vision:

    Kerran: Infravision

    Dark Elves: Ultravision

    Gnomes: Ultravision

    Dwarves: Ultravision

    Trolls: Ultravision

    Ratonga: Sonic

    Erudites: Magical Aura Sight

    Humans: None

    Barbarians: None

    Ogres: Infravision

    Wood elf: Infravision

    High Elf: Infravision

    Half Elf: Infravision

    Halfling: Infravision

    Iksar: Infravision

    Here is one: http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=Newbie&message.id=33479&highlight=racial+visions#M33479

But if you do a search on those forums you should get lots of results.

Ya I loved being barbs cept for their vision. At low levels you had to use a slot for your torch. But I was always tweaked with plat. so i would just buy some item that helps vision.

This sounds really cool, im glad infravision will actually be infravision in this game, and not just tint everything like ultravision.  Im really interested to see sonicvision and auravision, i can only imagine what the sonicvision will be like.  Maybe something like you see the waves (sonar-like?) when something moves and makes noise.

  • ColdmeatColdmeat Member UncommonPosts: 3,409

Infravision is pretty cool in short bursts. Bonus for not being able to see undead with it

Ultravision is great. No complaints on that one

Sonicvision.... /puke. It's totally useless, unless you're on LSD, or something. Turned it on once to see what it was, and never looked at it again.
