Group Forming

dsorrentdsorrent Member CommonPosts: 1,627

Does anyone know if there's going to be some mechanism for locating people who are looking for a group?  If there is, how will it work?  Will it be an in game GUI where you can check off like "Rogue", "Priest", etc to filter what you are looking for?  Can you specify the specific classes like Assassin or Paladin?  Also, will it be zone specific, etc?

Thanks!

FFXI has a great feature for this.  I am sure there is somthing in EQ2 along the same lines.  However, I have yet to read or hear anything about this.  Good question.

Someone who was playing it said that he heard people shouting out that they needed fighters, mages, etc. So perhaps there is a system for finding groups, but EQ habits of shouting out to the zone have prevailed? Or perhaps that is the only way to assemble groups so far.

I can't comment on this as I don't know the answer...but I do know that every mmorpg should have a good gui tool for groups to look for players and for players to build their own groups. I played City of Heroes recently and that game had one of the best teambuilding tools around, I think every mmorpg should have a tool like that, except expand it to search server wide and not just in the current zone.

Yea, that was the one thing that turned me off of EQ... I hated that shouting for a group... It's so... well.. useless..  It's like spam mail..

I REALLY hope they have some kind of system like CoH or some of the other MMORPGs...

Yep.. the system is set up almost exactkly like FFXI.

/who lfg << that will list all the people LFG in the zone.

You can also search all people in zones, certain classes, races, etc.

Yea, I was checking out that interface yesterday... one of the things I found interesting in the GUI is that there's a check box to check off people who are LFG, but when you go into the search panel initially, it's not checked off by default.  I only realized that after messaging several people who told me they were already in a group and they said they didnt' have their LFG flag on.

I mean, it's a simple thing to check it off, but I think if I made the interface, I'd have the search include the LFG flag.

Also, there is a bug in the GUI which I reported.  If you search and then click on the Level column (or any column for that matter) and re-sort it, it changes it visually but not internally.  So, lets say your original search resulted in:

    CharacterA Level 5

    CharacterB Level 10

    CharacterC Level 7

And you sort by level, so it shows:

    CharacterA Level 5

    CharacterC Level 7

    CharacterB Level 10

Now if you highlight CharacterB and click the TELL button to send them a message, you'll see what actually shows up is:

    /tell CharacterC

So although it re-sorts them on your screen, functionally the third item on the list is still CharacterC.
