I observed something ingame that i find very confusing and funny at the same time.
Before i discuss it, a warning should be made. This post is not to prove anything, it is just an opinion that i find is logically correct.
Ok, now that we are done with that, let me start by asking you a simple question. Do you use the NPC merchant to sell mats and items? When i say NPC merchants, i mean the ones that buys anything at a flat rate of 10gold.
^-^ Now for sure, most of us here would rather use the market inside towns to b able to sell there good with a bank account opened of course. That is a good decision since you don't want to sell a high price item for merely 10gold, no questions ask.
The confusing but funny part that i've noticed though is why there are items in the market prices at 1gold or even 3 or 5 gold? I know, a few gold won't matter to most of us but wouldn't it be a smarter way of selling if the mats being sold at a price lower than 10 gold be sold to the NPC such as the hospital. At least we get 10 for each instead of 1.
How about that?

Another funny thing is that some items are sold for below fixed price. Fixed price doesn't run out so why would people buy more expensive items when there is no demand? People at the market also sell items for 1 gold below the cheapest, so people would buy it since it's the one at the very top.

Maybe the do that to get rid the item in their inventory.. and you dont want other people to buy that.. i sometimes used that strategy like for example the fixed price for ashen is 20k and i have no space for my inventory and warehouse.. i vend it and i put price that are way higher than the fix price like for example i out 100kea.. so people are discouraged to buy and yet you store your item in the inventory...

some people just dont understand the market.. infact you dont even have to knw about economics demand supply curve or whatevcer to figure out that people will not buy stuff above thwe fixed price... i agree you can easily dupe people in the market,, there are lots of outlets in the game wherein you could capitalize on to be able to get more money...
i tried one time selling an item 1k about the fixed price, after 10 mins, guess what, it got sold,.. good grief
The problem with that though, is that you also lose space for selling, since there is only a limited number of things you can sell in the market, so that would be nonsensical. In fact, for 1 gold, you might as well just throw it away. Maybe they just forgot about the 10 gold mercenary?

You've raised a funny point there... It is weird that some people would register an item at such a small price...? Anyway, a question came in my mind after I've read the posts here - who buys the stuff we place in the market? I've always thought that the buyers are also just us players but when I saw conqistador's post that someone bought an item a 1000gold... Is it possible that the 'game' also buys stuff? Haha... Maybe a just thought of something ridiculously stupid...
My main problem occured when I tried to craft much beyond the beginner lvl items in Atlantica. All the materials were readily available on the Macedon server and I could have bought enough of what I needed to make an Ogre Bow but, when I looked at the material list for this item I was both shocked and horrified. If I were to purchase everything needed to make 1 bow it would have cost me upwards of 20,000 gold! Instead of spending the 20K I went and checked how much other players were selling Ogre bows for. 2000 gold or less and there were many to be had!
Now I understand that for the extra money spent I was getting crafting experience and a bow. I was also going to get a chance to get a +1 bow maybe higher though its very rare. Still this is not fair or realistic, in my honest opinion, to the person trying to craft. It would have broken my bank at lvl 30 to make 10 of these bows and I'd surmised I needed to make about that many to get from lvl 9 to lvl 10. Not to mention I probably would have been lvl 33ish by the time I had crafted those 10 bows (the next rank of bows was useable at 35).
Maybe I'm missing something here but I'm not so sure. These were only the third rank of bow in the game and I realize crafting in most all games is a money sink for a large portion of your skilling up, however, the discrepancy between the material price and the sell price was enormous! The fixed price for the bows was 4800 gold if you are wondering. This means its still costing you 4 times as much even if you could sell at fixed price!
well, convenience comes with a price. some people do that maybe because the market is much closer and they would like to lose that thing ASAP. it's less of a hassle than teleporting to the npc who buys it for 10gold.

I guess they are too lazy to interact with the NPC merchant. It is much easier to list items than interact with the merchant? I don't know. One reason is maybe because they are buying something, and tries to register the excess materials in their inventory at the same time that is why they are listing it in the market at a very low price.

This really is funny as the Hospital inside a towwn is easier to click on and sell compared to clicking on rate and then typing the price and clicking on register. lol
Good point.
Most probably, they are just lazy. Why don't they just throw it away? But then again, what if it is 1000+ pieces.
you guys can leanr a valuable lesson here... for people who usually sells their stuff at minimum prices, you can just buy them off at that price and then list it at a price below fixed and abovce minimum price.. this is monopolizing or buying and selling or whatever you might call it.. easy way to earn mony by doing nothing and just sitting at the market outbuying everyone who lists a price lower than yours.. this way you can dictate the price of a particular item and horde everyone who tries to list it below your selling price...
