EQ2..disturbing...

ElevenEleven Member Posts: 11
You know I was really expecting to hate EQ2, after playing EverQuest for about 5 years.  I kept looking at the screenshots, and models looked very plastic and not all that impressive.  Now I have watched movies of the actual game play and I'm sad.  EQ2 actually looks good :(

Hey, after my excitement and subsequent letdown with Horizons, I was very reluctant to let any game excite me again. Lo and behold, here I am, giddy at the mere thought of the day I get to log in the first time.

Nothing can be as bad as Horizons was, can it? ::::06::
I have a fiend in the beta and he is telling me it is amazing. Nothing like EQ.

No ... nothing can ever be as bad as Horizons nor has anything ever been as bad as Horizons. Lol its funny too cuz I got an email this morning with a sender of "David Bowman" asking me to come back to HZ and give it another try. Promising they have fixed all the bugs and there is more to kill than wolves and bunnies.  Yeah f'ing right - that game was a disaster and never should have been released in the state it was in.  I doubt it will ever be fixed and im honestly surprised that its managed to keep floating for almost a whole year.

Same here Eleven, I was in the "hate eq2" boat, but after reading about, and seeing the game in action I jumped ship...

Have two friends in the EQ2 beta....

One said it was SWG in tights... That really worried me as I had high hopes for this game...

Luckily the other friend said it was awesome...:)

Personally really looking forward to it, it looks very immersive.. Until it's out (or I get a beta invite *crossed fingers*) I'll continue to mess about with EQ.

I am soooo looking forward to this game.  I too hessitated when I first heard they were doing EQ2. In fact I said I would not re-enter that world.  However, things have changed and I am very much anticipating entering the EQ2 world.

Drives my wife crazy though, I have to keep upgrading my computer just to support the game.

LOL.. I know what you mean... I'm still working out the budget to see how I can afford this upgrade.. My wife is at a point now where she's just like "if you just put it all on a credit card, will you shut up about it already?"

After all the hype and anticipation for EQ2 I was almost afraid to see the actual game.  I say ALMOST because when a friend got into beta I just couldn't resist checking it out.  As I drove over I feared I would be disappointed because few games can live up to that kind of excited anticipation.  All I can say now after seeing it is WOW.  It is truly worthy of the hype.  Lag is still a bit of an issue, but then that was also the case with EQ Live.  The game itself though is incredible.  Now more than ever I can't wait for release.  EQLive was called "Evercrack" because it was considered addictive . . . EQ2 will be much, much better (oh I guess that is suppose to be "worse").  If you become highly addicted to great games, approach this one with extreme caution. image

When you say lag, what do you mean? Do you mean server lag; rubberbanding, or something similar? Or do you mean low framerate from under-par graphics card and/or too many complex objects on the screen?

  • elvenangelelvenangel Member Posts: 2,205
I heard its just one or two of the zones that have lag issues not the whole game.  If the whole game has lag then it might be the user's computer in a choke hold :)

Please Refer to Doom Cat with all conspiracies & evil corporation complaints. He'll give you the simple explination of..WE"RE ALL DOOMED!

  • MinxxMinxx Member Posts: 45

I was referring to server lag.  The graphics card on the computer was one of the top ones NVidia makes with 256 on board memory.  His computer is fairly fast (2.4) and he has 2 G of RAM.  I know they have been doing server load testing, so it is possible that was part of the problem.  I'm sure SOE will work on this issue, but over all I couldn't have been more pleased with what I saw.

I really like the way questing is integrated too.  It is completely different than in EQLive and a lot more fun.  I'm not sure what is OK to reveal here, but the problem with group members not assisting the main tank properly and attacking the wrong mob has also been creatively addressed, along with a bunch of other "irritation" type things that waste time and get everyone in a bad mood.  It is just a lot more fun!

You may be right about it only effecting certain zones.  Since this was my first look at the game, he was showing me around all the Freeport zones and the zones close by.  I did not get an extensive look at the world, only about 10 zones in that area.

My first MMO was DAOC, and I was impressed with it. Then came FFXI, and I was even more excited because im a big FF fan. After a year playing it, I'm quite sick of it. As you can read from my latest post on my website, I'm fed up with the problems with FFXI. I'm going to welcome EQII with open arms. The game looks amazing, the detail and graphics, the selection in race and class, it looks great. I'm quite pysched about it, I even think I have my class planned out.

Same way I felt, the characters really do look cool with some armor and are moving.

I hated EQ1, I quit after a few days, however everything that I've seen and read about EQ2 has made me fall in love with the game, the reason I think this game is going to be so awesome is that it will be very different from EQ1.

Yeah, I'm afraid EQ2 is going to ruin what little social life I have.

There was a news story on the local channel tonight about public gambling through lotteries (bible belt politics image) and about recovery groups for gamblers......I couldn't help but think about the onset of my EQ2 addiction which I'm feeling before setting foot in Norrath. image

I missed the whole Everquest thing.
I was never into it, well I shouldnt say that. I never gave it a chance is what I am trying to say. I bought the Everquest triolgy when I was about 12 [ I am now 15 ]. I registerd my account key, and for some reason decided I didnt want to play EQ [ I bought CS or somthing ]. But now .. just recently about a week ago I wanted to see why everquest was so good, because its still one of the most popular games, and everyoone tells me its ''addicting.'' Well I forgot my station ID that had my account key, so Im screwed. But I downloaded the trial, and I did not feel the game at all. I dont know if I downloaded the wrong thing or what, but the graphics / sounds were HORRIBLE! I only made it to the magician guild leader so I didnt go that far, but I have NO idea what is so addicting about that game. Can somone fill me in lol... Oh well, im going to do a loooot of ketching up once EQ II comes out :>

I remeber a few years after EQ came out i saw stories on the news about EQ and how it is ruining marriages and careers.

I remember seeing my in game playtime once and it was over a year and 4 months. That shocked me and kind of kicked myself in the ass. I didn't play for awile and got my life together, got a girlfriends and my old friends back (Real life friends).

I am for sure going to be playing EQ2 but i have a wife and kid now so no more power gameing for me. ::::16::

Wrong, I'm in EQ2 closed beta atm, and while the game is decent, it is the very same concept of EQlive.

If you're expecting a change from the grind-grind-grind style of play, forget about EQ2.

If you like to solo, or maybe you're a casual gamer and don't like to waste time trying to find groups, good luck with this game.

    It's very very group driven.

Personally, EQ1 died in my eyes a long while ago after playing for 5 years. I don't want to play the same game again, in new light.

Just a polished version of EQ1, that's all it is.
