This won't happen. Which is why an expansion will never happen.
Well SOE has kind of tossed out their credibility by all their deceptions and denials in the past. So, when they now deny this, even if it is a fake, who can believe them? I have no idea whether or not there's anything to this (frankly I'm skeptical), but SOE's denial is meaningless, just as it was with the Starter Kit. Partly I'm skeptical because Smed has already accomplished essentially the same thing with the promised hoth instance, promised free server transfers, and the new card game. The promises string people along and we never know with him if he'll follow through. The card game has people paying for a chance to get podracers and ending up with squat. P.S. Like Sookster, I'm getting tired of the MMO genre. Over in CoH now they're talking about dismantling the PvP game to make it more user friendly for inexperienced players. Some say they can afford to lose the veteran pvpers because the simplified mechanics will bring in so many replacement subs. Did SOE executives go over to NCsoft lately or something, or are they just drinking the same water...

Lol, I wish I was joking, and I've been a big supporter of CoH because of how they treat their players. To keep this on topic for this forum, I'll mention that I saw an announcement about a year back saying one of the V.P.s at SOE was moving over to NCsoft. Honestly, when I read that I thought "Oh shit." Lol those were my exact thoughts. Then I thought, "well maybe he's one of the smart ones who can't stomach what's going on with SOE these days." Tbh, I don't really know.
What I do know is that Cryptic pulled out of CoH and it's been in the hands of NCsoft alone for about a year now. Since then, they've released an issue with a horrible game breaking bug: people all over North America were out of sync with the map--couldn't even friggin move. Then they've failed to provide a new issue in what seems like the longest time in the game's history. Then the features they initially promised in Issue 13 (features I bought a new time card for) were pushed back to sometime in 2009. Now they're talking about dismantling the current PvP game to dumb it down for newer players.
Is it a coincidence that Cryptic has left, and an SOE exec has stepped in, and now CoH is being run more poorly than ever? I dunno. My first thought was that everything SOE execs touch turns to crap. I'm sure though that other execs are capable of being short-sighted and making bad decisions in a panic.
Truth is, with WAR out, and with the sync bug and failure to provide a new issue in a content driven game, NCsoft has set themselves up for a loss. Of course they don't appear to see it this way; no they think they need to change the mechanics of the game for some reason. Why game makers are so blind to the real issues that cause subscription hits is a real mystery to me. Why they think giving the shaft to their current players is a good solution is an even bigger mystery, but it does seem to be a trend.
At any rate, the pages of posts in response to the dismantling of pvp are now numbering 213. It reminds me a lot of the pre-cu posts. This isn't as bad as the NGE because we have plenty of warning, but it is a game change closer to the magnitude of the CU, and the majority of current players don't want it. Despite the NDA on closed beta, people are saying how badly the changes suck.
What remains to be seen is this: will NCsoft listen to the hundreds of pages of concerns and suggestions of their current players, or will they truly consider them expendable and force the new changes on us all. If they choose to chuck out their current players, I fully expect to witness another MMO with great potential collapse under bad management. Time will tell...
One thing that might keep me in this genre is the fact that Cryptic is designing a new Superhero MMO. So if NCsoft joins SOE in the ranks of the insane, I'll still have an option with people I like doing business with. I'm also optimistic about the LucasArts/Bioware MMO. LucasArts did get rid of the leadership connected with the NGE decision (very good move) and I loved KOTOR 1. I'll also probably try the StarTrek MMO by Cryptic. Like I'm sayin' they treated me good for two years. They know what they're doing, and take a lot of creative pride in their work. The development process behind Champions is really amazing.

I wonder when MMO developers are going to realize that the vast majority of the folks who don't PvP are never going to willingly PvP. If they are forced to do so, they will leave for a game that doesn't force them. Hell, SOE spent the first year after the NGE focused on PvP, and when they finally asked their players, around 80% of them said they weren't interested in PvP and had no intention of doing it.
It seems developers think that just because they enjoy PvP, that everyone else should too. They set about trying to find a way to get the people who are never going to want to PvP to do so, while making the existing PvP game less fun for the folks who enjoy it.
Edit:
Wow, looking at the official CoH forums, it looks like the PvPers are leaving in droves. When your community relations guy has to post asking people to not to quit, because they are going to make the unwanted changes magically better somehow, you know things aren't going well. I wonder how bad things will have to get before they scrap the changes, or if they will go ahead with them anyway, because they believe they know what their players want better than the players themselves? It looks like the CoX dev team has a severe case of tin ear syndrome, metaphorically speaking.

I am a primarily PvE player BUT I enjoyed PvP in LotrO and DaoC. PvP in SWG is CRAP. The first step to making it even remotely enjoyable would be to disable macros in any PvP area. Spy's are so totally overpowered due to macro spamming that it TOTALLY ruins PvP IMHO.
I wouldn't even bother with PvP in SWG but unfortunately you have to in order to complete some of the more elaorate collections and quests.
Nope whats ruined pvp in swg is the ridiculous amount of buffs in the game players have to use now in order to compete you have to get buffs from ents, medics, officer (class), food, musty items, gcw rank rewards/items and base items. Now throw in full statted suits, heroic jewellery and pups then players can become near invincible.
Some players have always used macros but its small change compared to buffs, new players don't stand a chance at the moment.
On another note spy is most certainly not overpowered if they glance or the opponent dodges their initial attacks out of stealth then the spy is fooked and has to go back to stealth due to a massive lack of action left over, spies are also completely screwed when in comes to pve and always the last to be picked for heroics.

PvP was already ruined in SWG by the game having the absolute worst combat mechanics in any MMO currently available. The combat system is horrid, and even PvE isn't any fun, let alone PvP.

Now this I find hilarious, buff wars revisited. Used to need to see docs and medics to get wounds cured, then see a doc again for buffs. Had to see the ent's for mind wound cures, then go buy food for buffs. They removed all of that due to some think tank somewhere saying players did not want any of it. Now the buff wars are back and stronger than ever and in worse ways than before. I was in need of a laugh, even though it was a sad one.
If this was true, everyone playing the game ATM should be shaking with fear. We all know what the last 2 expansions did to the game. Can anyone say, "new player base?" AGAIN..... LOL!!

One you obviously dont know about.
I dont play a spy and as I said, I dont really PvP. The few times I have been to Restuss, I have been insta killed by Spies using macros (ie - My health goes from full to none in about 1/2 a second allowing me no chance of reacting). Everyone I asked said it was spies with macros.
Knowing absolutely nothing about PvP in SWG, I have to assume they are tellling the truth.

is pvp in the NGE so simplistic that a non-pvper should be competitive against veteran pvpers, or were you just a noob.

I don't PVP, unfortunately, for some of the collections you HAVE to enter the PvP area in Restuss. Yet another stupid idea by the devs. Forced PvP never works.

How is it forced pvp? It's only a collection, the world will continue turning if you don't finish it, there's the choice.

No I admitted nothing. You made stupid comments about my proficency in elements of the game that I choose not to engage in.
I was killed by a spy using a macro. No amount of skill would have saved me, if you'd actually bothered to read, I said my health went from full to nothing in less than a second.

It makes perfect sense and it's got nothing to do with liking or disliking the game, it's more about disliking whiners trying to undermine pvp content for the sake of whining.
Jeeez take a look in the mirror, even WoW had some of the best gear available through pvp and the WoW kiddies didn't whine about it half as much as you lot.

you've admitted you don't pvp and know absolutely nothing about pvp. That makes you a pvp noob. However if no amount of skill would have saved you (as if you were in a position to make such an assertion), then maybe you lack the gear or the proficiency to use it. And if that's not the problem then it's either an exploit or the most glaring imbalance ever coded in swg (which is saying a lot). And I doubt that even the soe devs would code in a feature allowing spies it kill everyone else in .5 seconds with a simple macro.

Go back to Wow then. Forced PvP is stupid. Just because someone doesn't want to engage in PvP doesn't make them a whiner.
In a PvP game like WAR, it's perfectly acceptable. In a PvE game like SWG or LotrO for example, it isn't. The best stuff in a primarily PvE game should not be acquired exclusively through PvP.

You have got to be joking?!?! Where the hell do they get these people?

S

What magical macro does spy have that totally ruins PvP?

What are you 3?
I dont PvP in SWG, so obviously people who have been PvPing for years are going to be better than me - see how that works?
S
so it wasn't the macros that killed you, it was the fact that you were a noob.
you seem conflicted.

You're precisely the reason I never PvP. A little kiddie type person, so inept IRL that you feel the need to try and emasculate people online to make yourself feel better about your numerous deficiencies.
I don't PVP, unfortunately, for some of the collections you HAVE to enter the PvP area in Restuss. Yet another stupid idea by the devs. Forced PvP never works.
S
/sigh
How is it forced pvp? It's only a collection, the world will continue turning if you don't finish it, there's the choice.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

I'm just trying to clarify. You said the macros killed you but admitted you're a pvp noob.
No I admitted nothing. You made stupid comments about my proficency in elements of the game that I choose not to engage in.
I was killed by a spy using a macro. No amount of skill would have saved me, if you'd actually bothered to read, I said my health went from full to nothing in less than a second.
Please stop making silly posts using silly words.
/sigh

Lol, because to get the best Cloaks in the game, you HAVE to enter the PvP area. Dont comment just because you hate the game. What you said doesn't even make sense.
S
It makes perfect sense and it's got nothing to do with liking or disliking the game, it's more about disliking whiners trying to undermine pvp content for the sake of whining.
Jeeez take a look in the mirror, even WoW had some of the best gear available through pvp and the WoW kiddies didn't whine about it half as much as you lot.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.
you've admitted you don't pvp and know absolutely nothing about pvp. And I doubt that even the soe devs would code in a feature allowing spies it kill everyone else in .5 seconds with a simple macro.
basically, your statements don't make sense.
