This is 2008, there's no reason why games should be released bugged, especially after a year of beta testing. If I bought a washing machine and it was bugged I would get refund, whats the difference?
You're funny... bugs ALWAYS occur. ALWAYS. Its a law of programming. MMOs in particular due to the difficulty involved in creating them and the amount of calculations they have to do.
I don't play Warhammer, but I can appreciate how smooth the launch was. The past several games to release had absolutely terrible buggy launches (looking at you Age of Conan). Even precious WoW had a fairly bad launch. A good launch is the exception, not the rule. And given that, the only game I've seen with a near flawless launch was Lord of the Rings Online and Dark Age of Camelot.
But hey look at that, Mythic made DAoC, very smooth launch, just like Warhammer. Anyone who expects a flawless launch of any PC game, much less an MMO, is a fool.
That's not true at all, if it were there would be planes and satalites falling out of the sky all over the place and a myriad of other critical systems failing.
It comes down to how much testing you put in beforehand, obviously with something that cannot afford to fail it's a lot.
I know this firsthand as I've done testing on software that could not afford to fail, and since it went live it never has.
If it's only other people money at stake then it doesn't matter so much, especially when they will just buy your next product anyway.
Did say anything about WAR's launch? No I didn't I said that people should complain if they get software that doesn't work properly.

Ok, don't branch off into the real world, where it actually matters if things function properly at launch. Satalite vs a video game? Really? Dumb argument.
I was talking about PC games, and, more specifically, MMORPGs.
MMORPGS ALWAYS have bugs. Some have more than others. There is not a single MMO out there without any bugs present. The time when bugs are the highest are at launch.
Most MMOs have poor launches and then update their software accordingly. This is the rule.
The exception is to have a great launch. I can count on one hand the number of big MMOs that have had smooth launches. And I believe I've already mentioned them. Some older MMOs were even worse. It just shows that people are getting spoiled, and companies are hyping their games too much.
SWG was barely functional when it came out, Asheron's Call 2 didn't even have chat working for months.
Comparably, WAR had a fairly smooth launch. But people that expect perfect MMO launches are delusional. It just doesn't happen. And its not just testing either. Sometimes theres just nothing you can do, or you can't afford to stay in testing forever.
I was in LotRO from the second stage of alpha, through all 5 phases of beta. It was smooth the entire time. That's the one golden exception to the rule of MMOs having buggy launches.
There will be bugs. Expect it, and you'll be happier.

Software for planes and satellites are specifically written for known hardware and easily tested in a controlled environment. Seriously man, you want to compare an online game to mission-specific software? Stop. Just stop.
MMOs Played: EQ 1&2, DAoC, SWG, Planetside, WoW, GW, CoX, DDO, EVE, Vanguard, TR Playing: WAR Awaiting 40k Online and wishing for Battletech Online
Well sorry for talking about the real world, it's not as if people are spending real money on these games after all .
"Ok, don't branch off into the real world, where it actually matters if things function properly at launch. Satalite vs a video game? Really? Dumb argument." - What you are saying is that it doesn't matter to you if you spend $50 and it doesn't function properly??
Basically in my opinion it comes down to companies not being willing to spend the required amount of money to get their software in a state fit for public consumption.
If thats the case then they shouldn't release it at all, or even better should not contemplate making such a complicated product in the first place.
There are plenty of online games that work fine from release, LoTRO is a good as you stated, it is mainly the mmorpg market that is infected with shoddy releases. It is not because it is impossible to release acceptable software, it's because people allow companies to get away with not doing so.
I would rather see fewer and more expensive games being released if they were of higher quality.
Seriously guys, if think level of bugs seen in a lot this years releases is the best that they can possible do then you are deluded. Yes there will always be bugs but the standards people seem to be willing to accept is getting ridiculous.
im thinking that people (if any problems are found) should not complain about a game that just came out but is vary good in the fact that its the best mmo iv ever played id be playing now if i wer not a jobless loser but i had a chance to play the beta and it kicked ass the thing is i didnt realy see any bugs and it was beta the launch was flawless acording to my friend in my opinion it going to be equal to wow if not better because the thing iv noticed was that war does not feel like a job to play i dont have to do stupid raids. all i have to do is enjoy doing what i want pvp, questing, pillaging big castles, its fun

considering people on the forums bitching about WAR are about 1% of the population or less, we shouldn't really give a shit.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
