Yellow cross?

Hey, fellow gamers! I have a teensy question for the veterans of the game - a yellow cross suddenly appeared near my mercenary's picture, the one found at the lower middle portion of the screen... What does that mean?

    Hi and welcome to Atlantica!

    That merc can now be upgraded (cost: 50 ashen crystals)

    Open your inventory screen and click on the little magnifying glass for that merc.  At the bottom should be an "Upgrade" button - enjoy!

    Wow, I have upgraded my swordsman and my gunner! But, alas, my crystals weren't enough for me to upgrade my spearman... Anyway, thank you for the warm welcome and for replying to my question.
