Hi,
I had to quit FFXI a couple months ago, I loved it, it was so cool and I met some really cool people who now because of Square I can never meet again since my copy of FFXI has "expired" my parents had money problems and now 2 weeks after the deadline to reactivate FFXI I tried and boom I have to buy a new copy which I wont do since I have to start totally over and the chances of finding the people I use to know are VERY VERY VERY VERY SLIM.
Should I go for SWG? Is it fun? Do you travel from planet to planet stuff like that? If you have played FFXI is there more to do on this game than there is on FFXI? Im a big sci-fi and star wars fan.

I wouldn't suggest to buy SWG... it's pretty interesting in the couple of first days, but then you will get bored realy quick. SWG could be great game if it only has a purpose in. Now you just don't have anything to do in game. There're no quests, no dungeons(only few), no normal PvP, even no challenging mobs to challenge. After one week, when you max your toon, you can freely kill almost every mob in the game.
There's just No Fun in SWG.
You can wait a little bit and switch to WoW. At least you can sneak peek it by playing open beta which will start soon.
Even though i have recently quit SWG for all the reasons voiced by other players, i would still recommend it.
Why? Simply because of the ease it is to get started. As most say you can master a combat profession relatively easy (especially a melee proff like TKA) when you reliase you will be virtually indestructable with doc's buffs which last close onto 3 hours and a couple of brandies (mind enhancers).
You look at other mmorpg's like Daoc, EQ and AO and you can only drool over some of the kit some players have, knowing it may take you many moons or even be impossible to get because of school/work.
If you are a person who likes to socialise in mmorpg's SWG is probably the poorest game in that department. The issue of buffs means it became very easy to solo and do missions and get money far easier than it should be. People prefer to "solo Group" to maximise mission payouts. This means people get grouped and have very little contact via chat with anyone in the group. I have been in many solo groups close onto numbering 15 people and never heard spoke in chat.
I'd say try it, a few places have the game client free to try. It was even on my issue of PC Gamer (UK) Don't even have to download it

The game is largely rubbish now...
There was a time when I would have said yes go buy it but that time is long past. The game is on a downhill slide to hell in a handbasket.
Save your money for WOW or EQ2. If you absolutely must play sci fi I would suggest Anarchy online over SWG.
ROLEPLAYERS UNITE!!!!!
Critical thinking is a desire to seek, patience to doubt, fondness to meditate, slowness to assert, readiness to consider, carefulness to dispose and set in order; and hatred for every kind of imposture.
As someone playing SWG and beta JTL, the new expansion I would say... Not really no. If it gets a free download, then sure, but its not worth paying the money for a box to play this game. You will feel bored and a bit cheated before the free month is up.
Wait for the new ones. And as said before, if you are crazy for sci fi the AO is a much better bet.
Only game I wait for right now: Imperator.
Go Mythic!
"This is not a game to be tossed aside lightly.
It should be thrown with great force"
As the others have said, don't waste your money on Star Wars Galaxies. I can speak with creditation because I played SWG since beta. The once great game has now degraded to the point where all you see running around are Jedi (which sounds cool to be, but honestly destroyed the game). The social aspects are still fairly high but the events/quests/dungeons all are horrible. There used to be a story line (every few months there would be an Act which players would complete and change the story), but now they no longer exist (at least for another half year). At this point I would ONLY suggest getting SWG if you want to get the expansion pack Jump to Lightspeed, and basically play x-wing online.
I played for what....14 months since launch?
I just left the game.
I had one hell of a good time playing it.
I made lots of friends and went on many adventures.
It all depends on what kind of a game you want to play. If you want to socialize more, then this game is for you.
They really need to focus on adding more content and really give you a reason... a dangling carrot if you want to stay longer. I would have left months ago, but my friends are awesome and we really enjoyed each other's company.
When they left....so did I.
I think now that it is only $29.99 at stores it is worth a try. You should be able to get 30 hours + worth of fun out of the game as a new character. So for a $1 an hour at least you can be entertained. And if you can get more time in it all the better.
After a month you may want to renew or cancel based on what you have experienced.
Personally I found their content to be rather lame and the game doesnt really feel like "Star Wars" but as a sci-fi game it was fun for awhile. I played for 6 months+ (not including being in the beta...which after they announced the release date I waited to buy it for 4 months hoping they would balance and fix bugs...which they never did).
But like others said PvP in SWG is pretty poor and the content and so called "quests" run dry eventually or are too monotnous. Crafting masteries take at most few days but months to collect the best resources which can become like a 2nd job. Combat is pretty much acknowledged to be bugged and unbalanced for over a year now since release. You won't see a lot of people running around with guns and shooting each other like the movies...more likely you will see some melee profession like swordsman or pikeman or teras kasi artists running around. Like I said...not very starwarsy.
Perhaps you want to try to become a jedi in this game...that might keep you there a long time as it takes a while to do their new quest system...but just beware that all that work isnt really worth it as jedi in swg aren't more powerful than those melee professions that can be mastered in a couple of days.
I find more enjoyment smashing my fingers in my car door.
I just purchased SWG about a month ago.. So far I'm still having a good amount of fun with it. I am playing it almost every day for an hour or two. Without regards, I'm enjoying seeing the area and doing some crafting. Things in the game can be tedious, but that is why they have macro abilities built into the game. It's fun, is it the best game? No, but it is still enjoyable.
No dont buy the game
It is a great game and a great way to make friends but it is very expensive. I recommend not to buy the game unless you want more money problems. However i do believe it is the best MMORPG and i've played about 10 now. If you do have the money it is a great game (at least when you are a starwars fan like me).
That can be said about any MMORPG. If he was truely concerned about cash, he wouldn't be on this website, there are no free MMORPGS.... well maybe UO on a private shard, but that's about it.
One of my friends that quit FFXI for Star Wars Galaxies loved the game at first.
Except a week later he cancelled his account because:
#1 - He kept asking us if we could group with him to help him grind and we always refused.
#2 - When we thought him how easy the game was and how a total newbie could solo even advanced creatures, he did that for awhile.
#3 - After playing alone for a week, he found the game super easy, not challenging and boring because we were always hunting alone and never doing group hunts.
As you can see... once you know the trick in SWG, the game is easy. It's unbalanced, filled with bugs, and whatever you do DO NOT MAKE YOUR GOAL TO BECOME A JEDI! You will never become one. Don't take this personally, you just won't. And once you read up on what a Jedi is in SWG, you'll never want to be one either.

RISING DRAGOON ~AION US ONLINE LEGION for Elyos
I won a key for euro beta for WoW but I think that i want buy SW:G i liked the trial.
But yes i can agree there many bugs and ever in trial people dont wanted to group...
NO
No is right.
Cartman has a big fat ass!
Read the thread I wrote about "How to become invincible in SWG. A true, but sad story".
Because of the LEGAL (It's not an exploit nor a cheat, the game is made that way) techniques I'm describing in that little guide, you can litterally kill almost every NPC and creature in the game and become a Master at your profession in weeks.
A few months back it would take over a month or two just to master 1 profession. Not anymore!
So if you hate challenges and enjoy having an easy time in games, play Star Wars Galaxies! You won't be disapointed... well, you won't be disapointed until you find out you wanted to become a Jedi and find out it takes in between 6 to 8 months to become one.

SWG is pretty fun. well it was. then the lag got really bad, then the lag got worse, then it gets really boring, then you stop playing....
If its a sci-fi yout looking for then AO can be an outlet, if it is a fantasy, then WoW is your best bet.
Exactly. You can ask any veteran players or ex-SWG players and it's always the same thing. Customer support sucks. SOE are liars. Game is unbalanced. Game is too easy. etc...
Look, don't take our word for it, if someone wants to download the trial, play, most likely get hooked then after realizing the truth of SWG and quit afterwards. Go ahead.
Thing is... you gotta play solo. If you start begging for credits or join a guild that ends up giving you uber armor, 100k credits and all the weapons you could ask for (Which is pretty much most populated guilds) then you've ruined the game.
You gotta play this game from scratch, not care if there are ways to become uber within 1 week. Cause everyone in the game is doing like in my "How to become invincible in SWG. A true but sad story" thread, and if you do that from the start, you will get bored quick and hate SWG like all of us do. Don't do that, and just play normally and you will love the game.
