Looking for a FPS-like RPG

Silas26Silas26 Member Posts: 51

I'm not sure either I should search for a FPS or a RPG, so I will ask out here, here are my preferences :

Gear and level barely matter, manualy hit the target, rather than having % of miss and stuff like that.

No ''auto-attack'' repetitive fight.

I prefer pve over pvp, but both would be fine.

Hard fights, I am not looking for a game to ''hack through bunch of enemies''.

Games I like :

Diablo games, Star wars academy ( a more developped medieval version would be perfect! )

Warcraft 3 ( I play mostly Dota custom game )

The kind I do not want to play : WoW, or I'd still be playing it...

Thanks in advance for recommendations, Silas

    maybe try AoC?

I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"

theres mount&blade which is still in devolpment but its not an MMO just rpg

Its 1st person medieval real time fighting and you can download extra mods for it to become different times and places

I would recommend Age of Conan.

The game has progressed since launch, and is now very stable.  It is also a lot f fun, boasting many of the features you were asking for!

Thanks for the fast replies, I barely posted this in the afternoon.

I have looked upon all 3 game ( AoC, Tabula Rasa, and Mount&blade )

As for Tabula, I really prefer melee / medieval games.

AoC looked good, but I wasn't sure wether I needed to really aim ( particularly as a ranger ) on my attacks, and it didn't look like attacks were parry-able / block-able. Also, gear / level seemed to be a big factor in combat, which I dislike ( person with 9000 HP vs lil starting dude with 30 HP )

Mount&Blade looked the best to me, except for it's lack of variety in spells, the combat looked pretty much like the kind of fight I am looking for, but It didn't look online yet, is it?

I will keep looking for a game, thanks again for the recommandations!   Silas

P.S. Feel free to corect and inform me about anything that could be wrong that I said.

Sounds like you are waiting for Darkfall, or Mortal Online...like the rest of us..lol...check out their websites and you will see what I mean.

In AOC, the Ranger does have a "scope" option so that they can target their prey. Levels and how you allocate your feat points affect you much more than gear.

In the end the only way to  know is to try it. Unless you buy the disc, this involves a 15-17 gig download for AOC, and you MUST have a high end computeer to get the best out of it... this will also put some off.

World War 2 Online is an FPS but I would call it more of a Sim type game. I know your into Medievil games so I would suggest waiting on Darkfall like others have said.

But to be honest I always end up re-subbing to WW2OL it has a steap learning curve for an FPS but if you get in a good squad and people show you the ropes it is not so bad at all. The graphics are not worlds best but this is due to 1. The world being seamless no zones or anything and 2. If you shoot things like Tanks it determins where you hit and with what then works out any damage kills inside if you hit the ammo supplies in the tank etc to add more realism to the game.

It is an FPS and is a great game once you learn to play but it does take time.

But it does feature more for what you are asking.

    I.E.

    No "auto-attack" repetitive fights.

    Hard Fights.

Thanks again for the fast replies, this website is awsome, and so are ya guys, I will keep a look on Mortal online, and probably go with Darkfall Online, which is simply perfection considering what I am looking for...

                                                                                                                                   Thanks again, Silas

If you are looking for just a combat MMO, try Rakion.

It's simliar to Jedi Academy in that it is a third person FPS with swords. It sometimes has problems with latency issues due to the peer2peer setup it uses, but it is a fun game regardless.

    Hope this helps.

Sounds very much like the chronicals of spellborn will be a game for you,It has all the fantasy setting but uses a a target system the same as fps,no hidden dice rolls all your attacks have to be aimed and when you hit you hit, also no stats on armor it is all just for looks, the game releases at the end of November so maybe something you can have a look at.

If someone had came up to me in 1980 when I was on my Atari 2600 and said we will be playing games with thousands of people at the same time.I guess my response would have been,"but I only have 2 joysticks"

To throw a couple of more "action-based/semi-FPS" style of MMOs into the fray:

    Phantasy Star Universe (www.phantasystaruniverse.com)

The Chronicles of Spellborn (tcos.com)   (NOTE: This game is still in beta; I haven't played it personally, and I'm tossing in this recommendation based upon what I've seen in the videos and commentaries, etc. This game is fantasy based, so you might like that about it.)

(I'm a huge fan of real-time, action-based combat, and I love both PSU and Tabula Rasa. AoC is another story, however...)

    EDIT:

And the irony of it all is that the above poster and I got the same idea at the same exact time. Weird...?
