There is a feature on the character creation disk that determines whether or not your computer is capable of playing EQ2. Also, if you can install the character creation program on your computer, then EQ2 is supposed to be able to run on it.
Yeah, I know about the compatability program SOE has. This is a good indicator but not a true demonstration of the ability of your computer to really run the game. I'm hoping theres a Beta tester who has already run the game on an Dell XPS laptop who can say for certain how it runs. If not... no worries. Just a few more weeks until release and I will know for myself. (fingers crossed for beta)
Nice feature. I wonder if it can be downloaded from SOE? It would make sense to figure out if a computer will run the game before a person buys it!
I have little doubt that the XPS laptop will beable to handle EQ2. I just hope that with 512k and ATI 9700 graphics I will be able to max out the graphics of the game.
Here is a link to that EQ2 Computer Requirements & Compatability Test. It scans your system and tells you what the EQ2 benchmark is and how your system compares. Again its only an indicator, but for those of you who have not seen it before it can help.
As long as your laptop meets the recommended requirements I dont see why EQ2 wouldn't be able to run unless your graphics card...well ...Laptops regardless of graphic card models are not usually Game Machines unless it was specificially designed for that. I should know...i have two computers..one is a laptop..and it runs Unreal2004 fine...unless you put it on some of the extra levels that are made with special textures and shaders then most of the geometry is solid white. Hence why i never use my laptop for games unless im testing software I made myself.

That is exactly the question. Although the XPS easily meets the requirements and is a gaming machine, it is a laptop and the common thinking is laptops are not good gaming machines.
So far I've been amazed at what with XPS laptop does with the ATI 8700 moblity and just 512k memory. No problems with anything.
Since EQ2 will be so advanced on graphics the question is will this be the first game my XPS can't handle well?
lol on that system scan things, my GeForce 4 mx 440 is supported, but in the FAQ they say that MX cards will NOT be supported. But mine is a 128mb and not a 64mb. Im buying a new system anyways this christmas.

I also have a Dell XPS laptop, P4-3.4GhzHT, 1gigRam, ATI9700 G-Card.
I assume it will run EQ2 ok, but not being in beta I don't know for sure and can't answer you question directly.
However, I do hope that these XPS's will handle the game well. I guess only time will tell.
