I am hoping that the lightsaber size is to make custom hilts stand out more, i think i have seen 2 different hilts either in the screenshots/webpage
The color scheme looks very WoWish as well.

not all the hilts I've seen are huge like that....in any case, I'm willing to bet that community opposition would prevent hilts that size from making into the Live game.
I remember back in 1999, folks kept asking me if I was stockpiling food. I always answered, "No, I'm stockpiling ammo and making a list of people who are stockpiling food"
Those graphics just look ... weird. I don't know how else to describe them.
Could be that, depending on what materials you use to build your sabre, you end up with drastically different hilts. Perhaps low quality material results in a bulkier hilt, while higher quality material results in a more streamlined version?
Dunno, just speculating.
I love this, the game has just been annouced. Not even in alpha testing yet already it begins
lol im not a fan of that graphics much at all. but maybe they arent using the finished skins or graphics engine. im hoping because that would be one negetive about this game there.
You must be thinking of it from a SWG camera perspective. This should be more twich like.
So it' s not bigger sabers it's the perspective.
Yep, might as well get used to it. Two years or more of complaining yet to come.

You wouldn't understand
The engine looks a little... old (?!). I guess they went for a more lightweight engine with the thought that content will weight heavier then graphics. Comparing the screenshots from sw:tor with some old wow screenshots and it kinda looks like wow when I was playing it in medium settings... Oh well, there is alot of time until launch day, I guess they will straighten it out. ^^
All the art shown is pre-alpha.
um SWG looks better than that and how many years old is that game.
That actually makes a lotta sense. Personally I'm happy with the graphics thus far, but there is still time for the game to mature in every way.

They JUST announced the game is going to made. Of course it's not picture perfect yet. Christ give it some time before you start tearing it limb from limb with a side of bbq sauce.

This is not funny. They sure did pick some sh!tty photos to announce their game. I know these are early stages, but skin tight suits? Yeah and they do need to fix that wiffle ball bat they are calling a lightsaber.
Some of the comments that are being posted now that swtor has been announced make me shake my head and question some people's frame of mind. . .

I think they are going for an art style based on the Tales of the Jedi comics (which is where the Old Republic setting was basically developed). Many of the light sabers in that had really big hilts (often characters would use two hands on them, and you'd still see a lot of hilt)

I'm very excited for this game to arrive, but I have to admit my first thoughts at these screenies was "What's with the Tonka Lightsabers?"
i really dont care if the game does end up looking like this when we get to play it. i want it to have so much damn story and depth that your face melts if you dont play in moderation. i will be pissed as all hell if its as shallow as a kiddie pool

I agree with you about the light sabers being bulky. I even posted about it in the announcement thread, but like everyone else has said there is absolutely no need to trash the game as of yet. This is PRE ALPHA screens we are talking about....like before testing or anything. Let them build a game that works, works well, and then worry about the graphic fluff.
Also, your opinions about what games people play are not the rule...

Read the front page news story. Theres a shot of some armor and a blaster.
Looks okay to me. Which is good, because it can only improve from now to launch. I'd probably play it with these graphics without complaint if it was a good game though, but I hope they improve.
