I just bought this game and have no idea what race to pick. Classes aside, I am looking for PVE zones similar to the undead zones in WOW or nektulos forest or lavastorm in EQ2. You know, diablo type eery and evil zones. I don't care if I am order or destro, as long as I am fighting evil looking monsters and the quest lines have a moderately dark tinge to them. So far, I'd have to say my favorite tier 1 zone is the high elf zone, followed by the order zone and chaos zone. I just don't want to end up in a hellish dark zone fighting rabbits, but its ok to be in a beautiful wooded zone fighting skeletons. The ideal would be a hellish dark zone fighting skeletons.

only thing about chaos is that it seems like you fight a lot of boring looking human empire NPCs, and the zones look kind of boring and rocky.

Well for those specifics I can answer your question im a EQ and wow vet. The atmosphere your describing can be best found in a combination of 2 zones. the forest evil look (nektolous) can be found in the Dark elf starting area, the (lavastorm) type area can be found playing at the greenskins area. All in all you want to go towards Dark Elf or Greenskin. Chaos doesnt really cut it for the look and feel based on what your saying.
Tier 2 high elf has spooky forests filled with skeletons, will that work for you?
TBH it doesnt matter which race or side you pick, as you will have access to all the areas in the game.
OK maybe, it is advisable to get to lvl10 or so in your starting zone, but once you move on to Tier 2, you can choose which zone you want to lvl in regardless of race or side.
Although the Inevitable City looks far better than Altdorf
