Few newbies questions

Just started playing the game, so far enjoying it.  Sitll trying to manage party fighting, anyway to my questions :

1- What's that 18 next to your name ?

2-Do you actually have to raise anything (skills, attribute) when you level up ?  I've been playing for a few hours, i'm level 7, is there anything i must do, train or something ?

3-Is there a way to choose which character attack first in a combat ?  It seems random ?  And why does sometime my turn ends before the counter reach zero and some of my guys (merc) did'nt attack ?

    1 - [18] is refers to which division you belong in the free leagues. once you start winning battles in free leagues, you increase in division thus gaining a lower number. in short, the lower the number, the higher the division

    2 - as you level up, you have the options to raise certain skills (this will be started in quests), to hire mercenaries (1 mercenary for every 10 levels),  and you will also get to loot commodity boxes during pve (these commodity boxes contain books which could level up the skill of your mercs.

    3 - a max of 5 characters will be able to attack per turn. the characters who will attack during a turn depends on their AP. if you want a certain character to attack first, press tab. :)

    So that's what that number stands for! I haven't tried out for the free league (I always close the window whenever there's an announcement about it) since I'm reluctant to try it. Maybe when I've levelled up more I will have the confidence to try it out.

    As for number 3, I guess you can choose the character whom do you want to attack, as long as he has the green circle underneath him. You can also assign numbers from your keyboard to your character, so instead of point and click then attack, you can just press the assigned number of your character, then you can attack directly. It saves us more time in attacking.

    @breadstix

    How am I going to assign those numbers? I've been playing this game quite awhile now but I'm not familiar with some major options. It is confusing if I continously point click the enemy. Teach me.

    you press on the headshot of the merc to whom you want to assign the number then press ctrl+(#). from then on, whenever you press that number, that certain mercenary will be the one to attack given that he is allowed to attack on that turn.
