Could someone point me in the direction of a good Swords build for a rogue?
I am trying the one that was posted here in the classes article but it does not get you to Shadow Step. I do not do a lot of PvP so something good for dungeons and raids would be a big help.

Think its changing real soon. I keep seeing talk about 3.0+ patch.

Yep, wot 'e said
The new patch will change all the talents anyway so it is not worth learning a new spec just to have to change it again in the next few weeks.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
Well, combat swords is widely regarded as the best raid DPS build for rogues in BC. There are a million guides that will tell you exactly how to build and use that. Go to WoWwiki or the official rogue forums.
As for Wrath, who really knows. We haven't seen how things are going to turn out. Anyway, if you want to go deep sub, plenty of guides on there on how to do that too.
I've been thinking of using Mutilate as the next popular spec because for the following reasons:
- no need to be behind your opponent
- dual wield specialization is moved to tier 1
- dagger+fist specialization is moved to tier 3
Here's the current Mutilate build I have for level 70 (taking into account all wotlk talents).
Mutilate is PvP I believe, and thank you for the input by the way. Does anyone out there know of a good PvE build up to 70? I am trying the killing spree build right now but then I can not put any points into subtelty(sp) and I am being spotted by level 66 mobs at level 70. Was not like that before even when nothing was in subtelty. Must be a nerf to the rogue class now I am guessing.
I am not sure if your new to rogue but if you been spotted it is because: a) you were stealth walking infront of a mob that can see your movement a certain range and didn't use distract powder to turn to their backs so that they cannot spot you as easily and b) some mobs can see stealth especially elities have a higher tolerance of seeing you. Not a nerf.
Right now Ghostcrawler was discussing about the issues of Sword build (combat) lacking behind with dagger build (assassination). Currently, most the smart rogues switched from swords to daggers and poisons are hitting harder so it is worthy of making daggers so worth it for PvE now. Maybe this spec can help you for swords as it isn't really lacking behind in dps to daggers really.
Use this spec for swords: 5/51/5

5 points in malice for more crit (important)
51 points that are valuable for pve mainly and avoided ones that are pvp based or useless in pve.
5 points in relentless strikes is so crucial to have to restore more energy back= more hit moves and quickly land more specials more times per minute than without= more dps! (IMPORTANT AS HELL!)
Hope it helps. Swords isn't all that bad if you have decent swords over daggers. It comes down to what gear you have that will depend on going dagger or swords.

Use distract. It's cheap. I can distract on my way to the target and by the time I strike, the energy used for the distract has already been recovered. I actually read on WoWWiki that if you time it just right, that you can actually get the mana used by your first attack back as you attack as well. Hit distract, wait till your energy goes back to maximum, wait 2 ticks and then strike. 1 tick later you will regain the energy you just lost for your 1st attack. I'm not sure this still works though with the way the energy bar works now. I think you get energy back on every tick.
Thank you so much.
If the patch is still the same as the way it was on PTR, and assuming Rogues regen the same as Druids (as I'm sure they do) then Energy is now regenerated in a stready stream now, rather than "ticking" in short bursts.
