Any good Non-MMO computer RPGs?

fivetigersfivetigers Member UncommonPosts: 208

What are some good multiplayer computer RPGs that ARE NOT MMORPGs? My friend and I have played Diablo 1 and 2, Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2, Icewind Dale 1 and 2, and Neverwinter Nights 1 and 2, and now we’re looking for something new. Any suggestions would be welcome, old or new, and it doesn’t have to be a D&D game =). We wouldn’t be opposed to more action either, as long as it’s still an RPG. Thanks.

    Old School:

Thief I and II (not really a RPG, but sort of like one, and very, very good.

Planescape: Torment -- Better than Baldur's Gate II. Yes, that's right. Better. Possibly the best RPG ever made -- certainly a lot of people think so.

    New School:

The Witcher -- Kind of an interesting game. RPG, Polish style. Recently received a sprucing up from its developer.

The Old School games are hard to find anymore. If you can get a copy of any of them for a reasonable price, go for it.

Here's a few off the top of my head:

    • Fallout 1 & 2
    • Arcanum
    • Planescape Torment
    • The Witcher

The Witcher (the new upgraded version)

    Oblivion

    Morrowind

Those should give you 100's of hours of fun.  Start with Morrowind first if you play it 2nd after the first two you likely wont like it and it will seem dated.

Fable the Lost Chapters.   It's easy but pretty fun.

I agree with Planescape, which although may not have the  best combat system or graphics, certainly had one of the, if not the best storyline I've ever seen in an RPG. Plus the characters are especially endearing. Even the villains aren't exactly hateful (Ravel, etc.)

    Avencast:Rise of the Mage

Gods:Lands of Infinity (old school, turned based)

    Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines

The best non-MMORPG that plays like an MMORPG(seriously this game is totally awesome) and is a single player sandbox RPG is called Mount & Blade.   Ever since somone brought it to my attention I haven't been able to play anything else.

Give it a shot at Mount and Blade.com - there is a free  downloadable demo there.   Game just rocks!  I am so addicted to it.

Long live the the reign of Empress Teala Te'Jir of the Khergit Khanate!

LOL  in game my character dethroned the standing khan(sanjar Khan) and she is now the Khaness of the Khergs.   God I love this game!

    Congrats Khaness.

Don't you just wish that somebody would do something like this in a MMORPG, rather than the stand in one place and mash buttons to attack the mobs?

Yes.   OMG yes.   The combat and game play in this is so fun.     I find myself having to be pulled away from the game when I have a chance to play it.    It is like a drug.   If the game developers of the game added elements of Age of Empires to this game...this would make my gaming life complete.   ::huge arse grin::  I love Mount and Blade!

Any of the older Black Isle rpgs are good, and offer quite a lot of gameplay and replay value. Don't be fooled by the older graphics. The gameplay and story are good enough to make up for nearly 10 year old graphics. I was also a fan of older games (I don't know if you can classify them as RPGs) like Myst and Zork, which didn't feature combat, but were pretty immersive and required very good problem solving skills.
