that so many folks here do nothing but bash the game? I mean I get it, we all get it....you hate AoC. You were lied too, mislead, kicked in the head etc.....get over it, or at least move on already. Why are you wasting your time bashing on a game you dislike so much? I would think that you would be playing something you do like, but daily threads of hate continue. Someone starts a why I love AoC and some whiner has to start a why I hate AoC thread. Why? Are you that bored? Can't you just let us enjoy our forum and our game. As I said before we get it, you hate AoC. We do not. I like AoC and therefore I check the forums daily for info. This is the first time I have posted because I rather spend my time playing. I find the game very fun and on my server (Tyrn) there are a good amount of folks playing, I know because they keep ganking me. This game is so far from being dead that I find comments about that to be silly beyond belief. Shows a real lack of business sense from those making them. Keep making your comments about the game, that is what these forums are for I guess. Just know you are really starting to sound damn silly these days. Those who post positive things about the game do so because they have a active interest in the game. That makes sense, those having no interest in the game spending so much time bashing it does not.
Rant over.....I am off to play some AoC.
YogoHugo, it's not that bad, when I look on the WAR forum it sometimes look much worse over there. There's a lot of players here that have good negative comments, even though they all have this habit of taking this professorial tone and write loooong essays where they try to analyse the game to death. Anyway, it's somewhat funny and worth the read. Also not to forget a very important principle, everybody are entiteled to their own opinion.
Where I think your post and opinions are applicable though are all those cases when a posting profile posts like 30 extremely disturbing and negative rant posts in less than 12 hours. Many of these posts describe how they are going to burn FC devs, shot them and other people that like the game. These posts are total junk and very sad in fact, I have myself reported a lot of these posts. What's even more shocking though is that a lot of the time the MMORPG moderators wount moderate those posts, at least not till the troll have been active for more than 24hours or +30 flame posts. First I did not understand that, but I have developed a conspiracy theory myself against MMORPG. Don't forget MMORPG is also business in form of advertising. MMORPG posts trafic numbers and number of posts pr day to the bigger MMO developers. We all know that more traffic and more posts and members will mean more $$ in the bank for MMORPG. MMORPG makes money on heated discussion and I think this might be the answers for why they are not moderating those obvious trolls a bit harder. Sin or any of the other moderators, if you have a comment on this, that would be worth gold.
This is at least what I have come to. This was a pretty professorial post by myself in fact.
I'm not a moderator if that reference was for me.
As to Jon, he's been very clear on his views regarding people being able to express their opinions on these forums, as long as they adhere to the RoC. To insinuate that he, the staff or volunteers actively cherry pick threads to moderate in order to "stir up" traffic is simply uncalled for.
Let me remind you that to type out I wany XYZ to burn or to die or whatever is not an opinion, it is bullshit. There is absolutely no reasons for not moderating and Warning posters publishing nonsens like that ASAP, unless of course my theory is true to some extent.
As Avery put it, it requires little experience in this forum to spot one of those abusive posters I am talking about. It is even easier to do so when these individuals spew out like 20 posts an hour. I simply do not buy that the moderators can not act fast enough on reported posts from the AoC forum. First of all AoC and WAR forums are by fare the most active forums. It's not exactly like the Lineage II or the Knights Online forums are stealling all the moderators attention. Also as I said before, there are times when I have reported absolutely outrageous stuff (that hardly needs to be voted over) and it isn't moderated before perhaps 24 hours later when posting tempo starts to cool down. In the two three weeks I have been here as active poster I see this happen so consistently that I in fact think my hypothesis (professor talk again) is not too fare off. Moderator comments on this would be very reassuring.
MMORPG people, I hope you understand that by taking the trolling highway to high activity, you not only repell real game debaters from your forum, you also lower the quality of your service as well as your reputation is compromised. Belive me it is already. MMORPG has a very bad name in the AoC official forums. I am not sure how this will affect MMORPG financially (possibly not), but if the goal in general is to appear as a serious participant in the gaming industry you must strive for something better. By serious I mean a forum used to discuss important and less important stuff (like Kaeira) related to games, as oppose to nonsens revolving more about hate than the game.
lol lol
This last paragraph is the funniest thing I've read of yours..seriously
"MMORPG has a very bad name in the AOC official forums "......OMG ....the world is over ..how will we survive this perception.I hope one day the rabid fanbois of AOC official forums can find it in there character to start liking MMORPG.com because without that the website is doomed
Okay now that the satire and sarcasm is over I want to explain something to you...its important .I follow certain games in development ...Darkfall and Earthrise .On those official forums there are people who also post comments about the " harshness and critical nature of mmorpg .com". They say things like " we don't want those people coming to our forums ",,,there view is also very misguided
MMORPG.com must be one of the most authoritative and comprehensive websites on the internet today covering MMO's and discussions around them.I also browse Tenton Hammer ,IGN Vault ,Massively and WarCry and there forums are no where near as active as these.Thousands of people logon to MMORPG.com to partake in debate and read headlines.MMORPG.com doesn't need AOC official forums approval ....AOC forums needs MMORPG.com
Lets say hypothetically AOC delivered what was promised and had been a success these forums would be bringing many new players to AOC as they would read good reports about the game...sadly it didn't .You cannot stifle diatribe against a game...you cannot stop people posting there negative views .Now a person who wants to play AOC will still play the game ...despite what forums say ..Most people would go to the official forums to get accurate input
Funcom will never stop advertising on MMORPG.com...that would be an egregious mistake considering the number of people who frequent this website .So don't worry about this website and its future for allowing debate about AOC
Here is an interesting article about word-of-mouth :
marketreporting.blogspot.com/2008/08/word-of-mouth-marketing-friend-or-enemy.html Basically it says: There is a saying in marketing: "happy customer tells five people, an unhappy customer tells 100". With todays technology, unhappy customer can tell thousands, maybe even millions. That's why word of mouth is so important in the world of MMO's. When you see people complain here every day, that is perfectly normal. They had been waiting for AoC for years and after seeing it sucks, they are just venting their anger. Don't blame them, blame FC dor making a subpar product. What is worrying is some of these people here praising FC and AoC every day, saying it's best game ever and telling people to buy it. This is NOT normal. When people like a game they don't go on a crusade to tell everyone how great the game is. They just play it. These people have some kind of angle and I wouldn't trust them one bit. What the angle is, I don't know, but it's not normal human behavior.

I've seen thoes threads and have disagreeded with them as well. However, I also hate it when people try to compare AoC at launch to AoC post patch 2.0. The new GD put a lot of life back into AoC and patch 2.0 fixed the core issues pepole were having i.e. OOMs. Content is spares, but most new MMOs have spares content at end game up until the 6th month hurtel. Even WAR has spares content as far as anything being different and have access to it ie most people dont even bother with city sieging or PvE.
Now that the core tech issues of the game are fixed AoC is further balancing the game by chaing how stats affect the game, crafting, and making combat more skill based. Bright future.
Getting my hard earned money ripped off doesn't make me sad.
You hard earned 15 $...ROFL..LOL.
Oh BearShammy, you are absolutely right 15$ isnt much, howEVER, when you consider the multiples of 15$ it becomes an issue doesnt it?
Lets examine:
AoC Launches - 800,000 Boxes sold. Shortly thereafter 415k remained. 800,000 - 415,000 = 385,000 accounts lost. 385,000 x 15$/month = 5,775,000$ per month in lost or unrealized revenue. So even if we accept that there were still 415k people playing in August when the report was released, which there were not. That report covered up to the month ending June 30th 2008 as the report stated very clearly. But even if it was 415k in Aug, we can assume that those 15 $...ROFL..LOL's added up cant we?
How can we assume this? They ran the game director out of the entire industry over this... So chuckle all you want, it adds up and we've seen the effects that can have on a persons future and a games' future for that matter.
How long after August 15th was GG run out of the company and the industry? Doesnt seem that FUNCOM, the company you stump for, shares your humorous take on the subject, does it?
people have different likes and dislikes, but 'This game is the worst ever and is sucks so bad you should never play it. I hate [Insert Game Here]' is not appropriate or mature.
If that is true, can I also assume that it is just as childish to hype a game? For example, saying "This is the best game ever!" would be equaly inappropriate and immature, right?

I agree. AoC might have a bright future if they keep producing quality patches and can deal with those incoming financial problems.
But one thing I have been saying all along. There is no reason to buy the game or resub right now. We need to be patient and let FC do their work. Once they put out trial and give free playtime to ex-players, servers will be booming and the whole AoC experience will be much better.
Just give it 3 months and then we'll all join the game together and chop some heads off
Sorry, didn't realize the post I was commenting on was from a week or so ago -.-
About AoC, when would you all reccomend a new player looking to subscribe, doing so?
Also, I'm looking for a non-generic MMO, is AoC even considered such? If not, I'm not interested in the formulaic "kill this fifteen times, bring me the locket" type of trash, and I would like to pass.

Im not that I would suggest you ever subscribe. Calling AoC an MMO at this point is a stretch. There are sometimes 50 people on an entire server yet the company will only discuss server merges and has made no promises they will MERGE, nor given any time-table for doing so.
When you consider that if you do have issues with AoC and decide to go to the forums to discuss your issue, you will be subject to unpaid fanbois of the game given moderator privledges.
Then yes subscribe. I will post a summation of my experiences here in a moment - a link to it anyway.

AoC quests are exactly like that, especially later on, early on its not so bad but the later in the game you get the more obvious it is that they just tried to fill it out with kill 20 of quests because they were out of development time.
I wouldn't recommend AoC to anyone at this point, maybe in 6 months it will be ready for launch if they keep a decent number of people working on development.
VPellen those were 2 great post thank you for making my day a little better. but ya the game possibly could be very good but it got screwed up in the execution

So just to help you out with some real comments as oppose to all the professortalk above. Let me tell you the truth about this circus. I bought the game 3 weeks ago and have not seen one of these nonsens issues that some of the outdated people have mentioned. I have not been able to write down one bug, or other issues since I started. I love this game as much as I loved Lost Planet for Xbox360. It is truly fantastic, and it is also a MMO on top of all. If look for a new MMO, try AOC. I think you will thank me with a big hug once you get it fired up.
Let me point out one thing. The other reviewer above have not played this game in about 3 months which basically means they don't know how postpatch 2.0 AoC is. The third of the guys above have not played the game even (that's my understanding from some of the stuff I have seen in some of his other posts).

You can't pass the game off as flawless and remain objective, there are bugs still present. They may not be as severe as falling through terrain or game stopping crashes like there were at launch. They remain present though. There are still gaps to be filled in as well, such as 55+ content there's been some progress over the last few months, yet they haven't reached the end of that road. Even after Ymir's pass releases there will still be gaps.
You're entitled to your personal opinion that the game is great, I feel it's decent. There's no reason to paint such an untrue picture of the game however. That's going to lead to disappointment for others in the end.

I am not disputing that there might be bugs. If you know programming or have played 10 years of MMO you might have an eye for many things that I am not paying attention too. I am just saying, I'm just a regular gamer. I play the game, kill the bad guys, chop the head, sneak up and stab, etc etc... and I can not see any of this bug nonsens that get way way too high focus. Perhaps I am a ignorant or something, but at least you have to realize that whatever the issues with this game are supposed to be, they are not that bad at all when people like me honestly honestly can't see what you are talking about. Seriously!
I am only lvl 41 and so on blablabla, but still I am half way there and it looks darn good so fare. I respect your opinion and all, but take a step back and look on the issues you are discussing. Is it really something nonexpert MMOers are going to notice??

Lol, here we go again.. Pezz the 3-week veteran of AoC knows better then all of us I've played AoC total of 6 months but I know nothing because I haven't played for a few weeks and the legendary patch 2.0 totally changed the game.
When I read your posts I'm thinking you must be trolling or then you are just our of your mind. I'm pretty sure you are a troll and I'm dumb enough to go along with it.

You know this is actually a fairly decent point, one I never really thought about. I've been playing MMO's for almost 10 years, my opinion is that older games were better. But that's because they were new to me and the excitement factor played a huge part in that opinion. Especially in regard to SWG, the amount of options that game offered seemed like gaming on crack to me. I' haven't had that feeling in years, I know exactly what you're talking about.
Point that out more often you might not get hassled as much, everyone who play's mmo's knows that feeling I'm sure. Your first love is your first love, no one can take that away from you.

Well, 90% of players QUIT the game just after a couple of months. I would say yes they DID notice the issues. Or are you saying all these 90% were expert MMOers?
You will quit too once you get to the endgame. Try to enjoy the ride while it lasts.

You should also ask yourself this, is it really necessary to attempt to ruin his experience for him?
It's a fairly decent bet, a majority were at least veterans of some MMO. Otherwise the criticism would have been much different, compared to most modern single player RPGs, AOC is a beast of a game IMO. Compared to most MMO's, it's to much like a single player game, that's a common argument given anyway.
To a person new to MMO's AOC's "endgame" might seem quite innovative, ownership of cities, sieging, even raiding as limited as it is, not to mention PVP notoriety. To a person unfamiliar with MMO gameplay this would seem fairly new and exciting in my opinion. It could be argued they may get a better experience else where, however that's for them to decide themselves IMO.

If you say something over and over again it doesn't become more true. What I belive you try to say is that of the 800000 that bought the game over the first 3 months only 400 000 resubscribed. Obviously something was bugging the 50% that left. You are insinuating that they left because the game was not good, while that's not what most people think. Most people think that people quit due to memory leaks, OOM (whatever that is) and other performance issues. I can't see why you think none of these will try the game again now that these issues has been resolved. Now it's time for some food then another 4 hours play before bed.
Must get to lvl 45 at least by weekend. I plan to make a review from a relative new players perspective. By the way do any of you know how I get images loaded up here?

It's not 50%, it's much more. At least not on EU servers. I played on Aquilonia which is the most populated EU server. At one time my guild had 400+ members, many of them active players. At one point people slowly started to stop playing. For every 1 new member I got, I lost 10. Every day I removed many inactive members from our roster.
And it was not just my guild, I could see the difference everywhere I went. Less people, less instances. People just stopped playing, plain and simple. Xfire numbers tell the same story.
We as a community cannot wait for your review. I'm sure it will open many eyes and get a lot of people back into the game.
I'm not sure about the image thing.. maybe if you clicked the "Insert/Edit Image"..?

Check my post history and you'll see I've never had a single nice thing to say about this game since I don't like it or the company that made it due in large part to what I personally see as an attempt to dupe people out of their money, with that having been said you'd be hard pressed to find me speaking negatively on any positive post about aoc without the post directing readers to comment you do have to realize though no one has any more right to a forum than anyone else which is why I avoid commenting on a topic about things currently in game or that don't solicit my opinion. I have noticed that some in the failcom army have posted tongue in cheek responses but nothing more than that.
I can only say if you don't like the topic don't go in to the post it works wonders since AOC stabilized I have not went into the forum which happened shortly after Gaute left. In fact since Craig took over this is my second time in aocs forum.
P.S. While I type this response I'm playing LOTRO travelling in the background which I do often so don't assume anyone who posts negatively doesn't play anything else especially where pcs are concerned.
but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
Thanks for all of the advice, guys. I'll be sure to decide on whether or not to play AoC in the coming months.

I like to make observations and enjoy sharing them. I have watched a number of MMOs fall flat on thier butts now for various reasons, bad design, poor performance, devs with no focus or plan other than sell a lot of boxes. Dark and Light, Mourning, Horizons, Vanguard and now AoC are all good examples. All of them had 1 thing in common and that was posters who hyped the game sky high, then when it released with only half the features and/or terrible performance wondered why everyone bashed the game and was pissed off. You would think developers would learn by now, but a lot of them keep doing the same thing and expecting different results. I would have figured Funcom woyuld have learned from the mistakes they made with AO, but noooooooooo

Getting my hard earned money ripped off doesn't make me sad.
"after the time of dice came the day of mice "
Yes I do think all of these new viral marketing accounts are sad. I am glad we agree.
Oh and if you want to stop the people saying things you dont like then back off and let legit reviews and opinions be voiced here.
Someone thought it would be cute to come here and do this but they were very wrong as it is having the exact opposite effect.
Bingo!!!!!!
You hard earned 15 $...ROFL..LOL.
Games:
Currently playing:Nothing
Will play: Darkfall: Unholy Wars
Past games:
Guild Wars 2 - Xpiher Duminous
Xpiher's GW2
GW 1 - Xpiher Duminous
Darkfall - Xpiher Duminous (NA) retired
AoC - Xpiher (Tyranny) retired
Warhammer - Xpiher
-Lum

I will post a summation of my experiences here in a moment - a link to it anyway.
http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/199192 Link to my post about AoC being like a relationship with a woman gone bad.
