Well EVE has done this, but due to the nature of the game it is daunting for people to get into a 5 year old game (yes I know specialise etc etc, but it does not rid me of the mental block).

Darkfall will offer...

Empire building..build a player city, player housing.

A complletly player driven economy due to full player looting. PVP will be profitable for the winning side now.

The ability to switch sides.

No instances, no need for pve for equipment and no need for instanced pvp grinding.

I can go out and be want I want to be, any class. I can be an millionairy trader running routes between player cities and racial capitals or a spy in a player faction (for another).

Or I assume I could lead my own land-less bunch of raiders around sacking player cities.

This is, IN MY OPINION, the game the genre has been waiting for, the developers have been brave much like EVE devs did and are doing what they want to do, and maybe recognising the desire for a change.

Yes people won't like losing items, but as with EVE people will get used to it, and realise the game does not depend so heavily on gear. And killing another player might=a nice set of loot for you.

All in all, I cannot wait, esp after the major let down of WAR online.

This looks like the MMORPG I might be in for the long-haul, shit the idea of leading a bunch of renegades around looting player cities is brilliant.

Oh and 3 cheers for being able to talk to all players on the server and not having the community cut down the middle. Maybe the player-city system etc will build the same (community building imo) grudges that have been formed in EVE.

Some questions..

Will there be resource points out in the hinterlands where player cities will be, which will be controllable by various clans (maybe some kind of economic warfare?).

I mean I am kind of rambling to myself a little, but I want to get a guild that just goes round sieging every player city I find/ransoming entire cities or individual players, and charging players a fee to enter my 'patch'.

I stumbled on this game some time back, and was amazed at what it has to offer. This game has really been flying under the radar and is exactly what I'm looking for.

The PvP part doesn't interest me as much as the risk factor. Crafting can be pretty mundane, but I remember my first MMO, I had reached the highest tier in mining. The only place that the ore spawned was a PvP zone.

I had butterflys in my stomach and that sense of dread and excitement. With half an inventory I spotted a Player Killer. I ran like a demented ape. The guy chased me half way back to the safe area. Thankfully I had managed to gather a good ammount of ore and made it safely back to the city.

That feeling of having beaten the odds is indescribable. Thats what makes crafting all the more exciting for me. I hope DF can give me that heart pounding adrenaline rush, and euphoric sensation.

I just bothered to read about this game today.

WAR is like some ridiculous scripted play ground.

    This is free form.

I will be makin my own reputation, my own career in the game world. Can be a name to be feared, or just a sword for hire.

I reckon I will start of as a general all-round bastard ransoming players and then killing them for their loot :) and if I get a clan strong enough, sacking player cities.

Then move on to the mercenary side of things.

I was really looking forward to War, i knew it would be less of an rpg and more of just a "game" but i thought it would be fun. Then i played beta and realised just how scripted and themeparky it was, it was even more than i thought it would be and so many of the mechanics were so similar to other themepark mmorpg's that i made me cringe and i decided not to buy it, even though i love the warhammer IP.

Darkfall, i think, will certainly feel more like a rpg, just like ye olde UO and the fact its sandbox helps with the immersion alot more in my opinion.

Started playing mmorpg's in 1996 and have been hooked ever since. It began with Kingdom of Drakkar, Ultima Online, Everquest, DAoC, WoW...

This game will attract WAR players. The game sucks. I do pointless combat which will let me take a city for a day and get a purple item.

I have no open rvr, and when there is a band 1 zergs the other, it is never equal. And when it is equal it is like WoW tarren mill was. And even if a side wins in an equal fight it is not possible to take a keep with equal numbers.

Unless you do an hours long siege, blocking all doors and slowly grinding the enemy inside down (LONG), before storming it.

And then you do that constantly and realise it is all pointless. It gives the illusion of having a point but rly after the 1 day and the e-peen boost a side has it is pointless.

I want to create my own history, play my own careers (mercenary, raider, soldier, spy, trader), and play in a fully player created game world.

Not this BS where you turn into a chicken if you enter a low level rvr area, and a game which is a massive rvr grind.

Yeah this is exactly what its like, its because of the combat system, the fast respawn and no penalty when you die, its also just the generic combat of numbers, a side could do better if they were organised when fighting against a zerg of equal numbers but it would most likely still take a while to win the objective, like taking a keep for example. If its 2 zergs against each other it takes HOURS or maybe you will not actually get anywhere at all and that was really really annoying in war.

With a system like Darkfall's where its down to skill it means theres much more of a chance that one side will be beaten much much quicker, its not a tug of war but more of a proper battle where the winners are the people who are still standing after the fight, it promotes people to try and actually be skillful so their side wins because if they arnt and they just zerg they will most likely just lose by the sounds of things.

That is so much better in my opinion than a tug of war that can just go on forever and ever with no real purpose.

Hehehe, it doesn't even give the illusion of having a point.

Let's hope that Darkfall can deliver on said content.

Enough videos, where is beta? Why keep releasing videos instead of starting a beta?

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

This game is very interesting.  It very much reminds me of UO (early days) which was one of the best MMO's ever for me along with EQ.  No MMO has given me the freedom like UO did, maybe this one will.

Would love to open another Blacksmith shop and make/sell great armor and weapons to people.  I enjoyed it quite a bit.  Unfortunately MMO's these days are lot's of promises that always seem to fall way WAY short.  I'll follow this one and see if it can produce.

That was probably one of the weakest arguments I've ever heard. Every team developes games differently.

Wouldn't it have been better if Stargate actually had released more than that one video before the beta started, anyway? Doesn't that just show that Firesky would actually be more mingy about the material released than Aventurine?

This is a good point actually.  I knew a lot of people in EVE that never fought in PvP for a good 4 years but they loved the thrill of excitement while mining in low sec.  PvP centric MMO's should not mean that players who hate PvP cant play its the contrary.  Crafters should be thriving in a game like that because they are supplying the war effort and good merchandise is in high demand.

For me AoC has missed a trick here.  Its not the crafting system that is the main issue (can be improved I know) its the fact that there is no major reason to craft full time and no reason for players to enter dangerous areas to get materials.

EVE has successfully replicated real life events.  Create an almost pure player based economy and straight away you have a reason to PvP, which is to guard valuable resources.

I hope Darkfall supports this and it would be a nice balance to see PvP players going out hunting and defending a village while the more passive player is in the background sticking more wood, stones into fixing or building walls.

Even if Darkfall doesnt live up to its promise its inevitable that a fantasy game will arrive sooner or later and fill this badly missing space in the MMO world.

    Darkfall will have zergs.

But they will be acceptable because.

Losing will mean losing items, possibly seeing your clan destroyed and losing all its assets and wealth with the fall of the city or cities.

hah, the amount of clan leaders who will sneakily transfer all assets and money out of the clan banks when the city looks like falling will be fun, might have to get myself into the position to rob a clan blind as it goes down in flames.

And thats why I love the concept of this game, and I love the concept of EVE (and what it is), I can do that.

This is what it is all about. Why play a PvE game when real live people have superior A.I.?

You're using a flawed "observation" (which actually just makes the situation worser) as an argument. Are you that sneaky or could you just literally be so stupid, that you'd honestly not know the answer to the things you asked?

I mean, this is one of the things you asked: Game X is in development. Why isn't game X in beta, because game Y is?

Now, what about you try to answer these questions:

"Wouldn't it have been better if Stargate actually had released more than that one video before the beta started, anyway?

Doesn't that just show that Firesky would actually be more mingy about the material released than Aventurine?"

    no classes

You can't spy(or you need to have multiple accounts.

No general chat so talk to whole world imposible(Ok you can talk to anybody you see thats true)

    No radar.

Resources for mats like mines will be dynamic so you never know what places they are and mobs respawn also dynamic to, so camp a spot for recources is for shorttime when depleted it respawn somewhere else.

Personally, I am looking forward to Darkfall more than any other game ever made. Right now I am stuck playing WoW (gag) because, quite frankly, all the other games are really bad (and my wife likes the game for some reason). Now, I do play Wurm, but its really, really dull. Sure its skill-based and you can change the landscape!

I'm tired of games that use classes and limit what you can do. Its stupid. Then you have the 'balance' issue between classes. Classes and levels don't exist in real life, why are they in games? Let me play what I want.

Secondly, the BIGGEST issue I have with 99% of all MMOs out there is how little, if anything, your actions matter to the world. The lands are static and no matter what you do, no matter how many bosses you kill, the world stays the same.

I want my actions to matter.

    I await Darkfall with anticipation.

If you aren't actively part of the solution, you have no right to complain about anything.
