Say, you are in Beta, you (duh) have a character. Once EQ2 launches, will everyone in BETA get to keep playing theier character from BETA? Because if not, then why all the pandering to get into BETA? I mean if you loose everything and have to start over, and of course have to do alot of content again, then why not just wait for launch and be at least a little surprised, all the BETA journals and videos aside.

In every MMOG I only play my first character for a month or so before starting over anyway. I learn the nuances of the game, then decide I'd rather take a different role. So for me, Beta is a natural fit for that.
EDIT: Oh and in this game, there are two starting cities with different stories, quests, atmosphere. So only play one of them in beta, leaving the other one for retail. You could do the same with WoW. Play Horde during beta and Alliance at retail. Takes a bit of self-discipline...
Because some of us like hunting for bugs. Taunting fanbois is just a side bonus.
Finding bugs is fun but being able to do your exploreing and figureing out everything before release is awsome.
You can always tell who was in beta by how fast they lvl in the start of the game.

Yay, I was hoping someone would have said bugs as that is the point of beta tests for the most part. Other then that its just stress testing. How much would it suck to get your copy at lauch and find out SoE miss judged the load their servers can take and everything is down.
You get to play the game sooner, if I had the computer I would love to be in beta right now. Gives you a change to find the race/class you want to play and stick with it at launch.

Beta for me serves 2 purposes. 1 selfish, and 1 for the intended purpose.
My first motive for a beta test, is to determine whether or not I'm going to plunk 50+ bucks to purchase the game upon commercial release. I have saved quite a bit of money by beta testing. AC2, AO, SWG, Shadowbane spring to mind....
If the game is worthy (in my mind, no one elses), or has the potential to be a great game, I'm fanatical about bug finding, content suggetions, etc...
...and I'm sure there are plenty more people like me out there...
Plus, if the game is indeed great, a few extra weeks to learn doesn't hurt either.
