6 letters or less in a characters name or you wont have anything to do with them? Dude, you are gonna be one lonely boy in game. That may be one of the most antiproductive peramiters for gameplay that I have ever heard of.
Since switching to a Barbarian in Qeynos, I found my first Legolas wannabe. I couldn't help myself, so I followed him around Oakmyst Forest /laughing at him.
I can only hope it made him cry IRL.
And to echo Vineyards sentiment(SPOOKY!) I think PHLwhatever will be awful lonely in the game. On the other hand, changing my name to Coldwolfmeat means one less person sending me tells I just ignore anyway.

What really bites my ass, is there was a guild called Swedish Love Connection. Apparently someone complained about their name, and so it was changed by a GM to Swedish Connection. Meanwhile, Knights of Ni, a copywrite infringement, and tripe like PIMP go about their merry way. I was surprised they didn't autonerf FoH, as much as they seemed to dislike them in EQ.
So umm, if you're Swedish, they don't want your lovin'. Or something.
Yes in the days of Everquest i would see noob gnomes with names like PimpMastah or BigPimp and thought it was so annoying. Heh one name that i liked was an orc called something like "Hide BeforeIbashu"
The PvP servers had the best names in EQ. Though there were plenty on the blue servers as well. There was a guy, Ogre if I remember, on 7th named Biggr Denyou. Not certain on the spelling of the last name, but same general principle. Cool guy, and all. Which is why 'goofy' names don't really bother me. Stuff like Pimpmastah, while stupid, I figure they make their own bed, they should be made to sleep in it.
It's the Drizzzzzzzztts and Murlins, et all, and the XxXSomeoneelsesnameXxX's that really bug me.

I asked him in general chat (so everyone around me could hear) why he had the name tehl33tn00b. His response.. "I want to be different." I'm dying of laughter, too much to type a response when the general chat fills up with ROFL LOL HAHAHAH MUAHAHAH. So the kid gets harshed about having a totally lame name for the next 5 minutes, has enough, logs off. HAHA. Priceless.
Edit: IMO best EverQuest name: Meso Fukenhaut - a female ogre. They made her change her last name, but that's just too damn original and funny not to appreciate.
Not sure if it was Veeshan, or 7th Hammer, but I was grouped with a halfling by the name of Porkn. When he dinged 20, he got Urmom as his surname. Probably didn't keep it very long, but still.
Vine, one of my characters might have a longer name hehe (1 word too!), but it's Fantasy based hehe Man, I hope ppl don't have to type my entire name like in SWG (I was known for cool names and very many at that! 25!!) , unless in a group/guild. First of all let me start off by saying if this post offends anyone, I oppolgize ahead of time, but this topic hits a sore bone, and personally I cant tolerate stupid names.
Lets first start by evualting what is an actually MMORPG. Perhaps this will shed some light on the dull minded when it comes to poor naming..
A MMORPG is generally the life of a charecter you create, not just a name A MMORPG is a reflection and a persona of a charecter, not just a name You assign a race, a gender, what it looks like, for reasons to help define who and where you charecter comes from. With that being said ... Where do people get off by creating names that are just plain boring and stupid. For example on FFXI, the main complaint from the Japenese community is that American players name there charecters things that are offensive, and unhornoable. I met a charecter named Odlid. translation if you read it backwards is Dildo. WTF is this kind of nonsense doing in a game. The second type of name I saw over and over is one that is associated with video games, like the pole refrenced. I saw 10 versions of cloud, sephiroth and other FF charecters... Lack of creativity speaks ottles about this type of people Finally, Just Bland ingornant names, Such as Orgrewarrior, a Froggy, Iamakiller, Watchoutforme, and stuff that is a combination of words, or offense names like dopefield, or MuthaFuker.... I am sorry but the name "Porkn Urmom" was just too funny. I am sure it violated some agreement and was changed but I still think it is hilarious.

The story about the 12 year old trying to be original speaks volumes and the fact he was bashed about it until he understood his ignorance is just great. There is not a better teacher than pain.
This will never go away, it is simply not possible to monitor every name and what one person finds offensive another doesn't. Then you have the different languages to contend i.e Fuk sounds like one thing to an English speaking person and somthing completely different to someone who speaks Chinese.
Personally I like the stupid names, it tells me who I need to avoid and often who to PK first

My wife names most of her Chars PornStar, Porn_Star, porn*, ect...but she has her reasons, she says that the way they make all femeales in game they have to be atractive and have a big chest.
I tell her to each their own, funny thing is most players think shes a guy with a name like that...LOL

When I played FF XI(and I hated that game) every group had a Sephiroth or cloud clone. I laughed about it alot but it was really annoying...
I play SWG now and I see people named some really stupid names that got by the chat filter... Though Marth Daul is quite creative I guess....
Why people can't use serious names I'll never know...
