Don't buy if you have vista 64 bit according to EA!

I went and bought War after finding the reviews to be pretty good after the first month.

I got home tried to install war and got a error on the install with direct x.

I called support and was told war does not support vista 64 bit and I should return the game.

I told them I couldn't return the game for it was open. They said there going to send me a new game so I can return it. WTF.....

That is an incorrect statement.  I run Vista 64 Ultimate and have no problems running any game in my library including Warhammer.  You may have something pooched with your OS config.

And what did the system requirements on the back of the box state? :)

Seriously.....put down all games if your that stupid.  I have played WAR on my 64 machine and get better results than my 32 comp.  Either you a troll or are too stupid to be playing games anyways.

I also run Vista 64 home edition with no problems.  Installed the first time around and has run fine ever since.  The only thing I needed to do was update video/mobo/sound drivers to stop an annoying CTD.  Otherwise, smooth as a baby's butt.

^^^ There is nothing wrong with my OS. I have a clean install of Vista 64 and have had zero issues with Lord of the Rings Online, WOW, Eve, Ryzom.

I also run 64bit vista and 6gigs of ram and warhammer screems fought in trying to take Destruction city or keep before city and there must of been 2 or 3 hundred other folks on my screen no lag.

I was using Vista 64 in WAR during early beta.

Might want to consult the WAR technical forums for similar problems as I'm sure it is easily fixed.

So all you users with vista 64 I have a question for you though I'm not sure if I should asked based on the replies I already got. When it starts the install it says it needs to install directx upgrades. This is the part that fails. Did all of you install the directx upgrade or just skip it?

Works fine on my Vista 64 Ultimate

I use the warhammer install i got from Beta.

Depends on the last time you updated Directx.  If that update is failing from the WAR discs then go to MS website and do a direct update from them.  That should fix the problem.

Have you updated to service pack 1, and installed all the latest video and sound card drivers for your PC?

no OS related problems with my vista 64 and WAR

I got the direct x install to work by doing a manual install from the disk.

Goes to show you don't call EA for support because it's like asking your mom to fix your computer.

I'm still a bit puzzled on why I have to install direct x 9 upgrades to Vista.

If you install directx 9 seperatley as well as do any of its updates you won't be asked to do it as part of the warhammer install.

Looks like I posted a bit late and you figured it out anyway... Vista doesn't come with DirectX 9 on a clean install.  Some PC manufacturers will install it (my Dell Machine restore disk has it) but my core copy of Vista doesn't.

No he's not lying, I had the same problem when I tried to play Vanguard last week. I just got my laptop with vista 64-bit from HP and it didn't have the direct x9 files. Took me a bit a digging and asking to figure out what was wrong, because the vanguard client told me I had .dll error and didn't specify (in a way I comprehended) that it was direct x9 files missing.

Let me help you understand. WAR does not use DX10, therefore, you need to update...DX9, get it?
