Names in WOW!!!

ArxonArxon Member UncommonPosts: 175

I heard that they were cracking down on all the immature adolescent names in this game. I find this to be very relieving to hear...

But at the same time we do not have last names... How can they call this a RPG if we do not have last names? I am very dissapointed that I can't use any of the names of my characters in my short stories simply because last names aren't available and there is not a character limit high enough for a full name in the first name slot.

Off hand I can't exactly remeber who said it, or what was exactly said. I believe the issue has been brought up a few times, but with in the last month someone at Blizzard either commented that it was being discussed with the devs (most likely) or that it was in the plans of being implemented. I'm almost positive they have yet to completely rule it out.

Part of me wants to agree with their naming policy yet at the other hand I don't quite like it.

I like the fact that they're forcing people to use more creative names that fit in with the whole World of Warcraft Fantasy theme. The only downside is that the names I chose usually have some sort of title in it. This will prove to be a challenge for me, deciding on a new name to use in game.

I'm used to using familure names that people recognize me by but since this naming policy I'm unable to do that : /

Naming policies are great.  If I'm paying $15 a month for a game, I don't want my immersion ruined by some dumb-ass with a stupid name.

ya i agree that sometimes they do ruin the moment, like i dont wanna be getting ready to snipe a gnoll from 30 yards away with the utmost (hah new werd :D) concentration, and see -// P 0 |2 N- CHIK  run beside me and flame some crap about wat a cool name she has. i dont mind if your name is like "Krusher" or some phrase to do with rping or games or watnot, and i really like swearing but if im playin WoW i like the names to be kept to reasonable standards... i hope u understand wat im tryin to say

Before I respond to the topic I wanted to give you all kudos...

This is one of the first threads I'v seen that has actually stayed on topic with more than 3 entries! If all the other peeps on these Forums looked at this thread they might see waht a Forum's really all about. So thanks for making this a great site to read!!!

As for the thread, I so think all of you are correct. I have always used real names is Gaming. No matter if it's D&D, Rifts, Starcraft, DAOC, UO, AvP, CS: Source or WoW True Names is were it's at. I've always hated retarded names, I even remember a few times like the ones you all described...

Here I am paying my $12.95 a month [or what ever the price] and I've got a name like Kendrik Stonecutter, playing some Drawf. I'm swinging my War Hammer bashing some good old Orc head and here come Dillweed PantieRaider running around in his Virtual Underwear with a train that could stretch from L.A. to N.Y.!!!

Next thing I know I'm dead and PantieRaider comes back and dances over my corpse till he gets wacked to... I mean come on People WTF are these peeps thinking??
