I am currently trying to kill as much Crab warriors at the Sea Palace for a quest… Crab warriors and Crab soldiers are roaming around the same area so when I fight one, usually the party consists of both of them but I assume when you choose to fight, for example, the Crab warrior, the party with primarily consist of more Crab warriors than Crab soldiers. But then, why is that when I fought a Crab warrior just a while ago, the monster party were purely Crab soldiers?! Am I wrong about my assumption?

Yes. what the parties "avatar" looks like is randomed and so is the mobs contained within
