Why do I need a super computer?

I am a loyal ex-DAOC player and I was looking forward to WAR.

During the install I knew things were amiss. The developers created 7 files that needed to be installed and each were over 1GB. The largest file was 3.7GB. These were files, not folders. The install took over 3 hours!

I checked my specs before buying the game. I had over the minimum. Game is still choppy and stuttering. After searching the internet for other souls having same experience I tweak my graphics card, in-game graphics settings, install an add-on, looking into buying a new PC. That is when I stopped and I said what the heck am I doing? I lost $50, lets not make it $2000.

What ever happened to game content worth more than graphics? If a game has good game play I don't need pretty colors and shapes. Bottom line is if you don't have a supercomputer, then don't buy this game.

I don't know about supercomputer, I suppose if your on a really older system like one that may have ran Daoc well you might need an upgrade on a few things.

I don't think WAR is as nearly as demanding as some of the games on the market, im sorry though your having this issue :(

I agree with you though that games need to stop pushing it on graphics like Age of Conan did.

Wow, I'd call you an idiot but that would get me banned. 500$ can run this game fine, any computer built within the last 3 years won't have any trouble. Get with the times. ffs.

    2000$? Go back to school.

I highly dissagre i know people with 800gts and or 9800s who cant play worth crap,, heck i know my ati 3850 is a bit old but its good... u cant even play on lowest o escuses their period... PEROID

No chance, the least you could have done was post your specs.... If you have a modern day computer (less than 3 years old) then a decent video card and the proper amount of ram and hard drives space is all thats needed to play WAR with no problems....

Beta tested this game on 2 pc's..... One was pentium 4 3.4 ghz with 7800GS and other waa CTD 3.0ghz with 8800GT both ran the game just fine and neither cost me more than 800 bucks to build...

With those specs you should be fine , the only thing I can say is if your running vista you may need to upgrade your ram because War is a real memory hog running on it.

Ya thats what i thought, i run xp, and i get bad frames.. i did max out my card and game and wow everyone is missing alot if u can't max everything out. But i was at like 10 fps

Why? Because Pc gaming is about staying at the front pushing the gaming envelope. It always has, and  it always will be. It's keep up with the big boys or ship out to console land. You also don't need to spend 2000 us dollars to build a high end Pc. I can just about build two Pc's in the high end range that would run WAR like a dream with 2000 us dollars, but a fool and his money are easily parted with Alienware.

  • Hi11ZoneHi11Zone Member Posts: 81

Understanable. but from a buisness stand point, u need to cater to mid and low machines 2.. not everyone has a top pc. Yes we need to make sure top ends get all the bells and whistles but all ur money will WILL COME FROM the mid range Peroid!

    specs:

    OS: XP

    CPU: 2.8GHz

    RAM: 2GB

    Video card: 9800 PRO 256MB

So two of my specs are double the minimum requirements. After a bad night's sleep, I awoke angry. They lied on the system requirements. I wouldn't have made such a big deal about this if I didn't like the game.

If there are people with a better computer, Congratulations! I know from searching the internet others and myself can't get this thing to work. At this time I don't have enough cash for a new system, I guess this game is just ahead of its time for some people.

  • DilweedDilweed Member UncommonPosts: 222

The two parts which have "double" specs don't matter. It is the slowest (oldest) part that determines the speed of your pc.

You got a 9800 pro, after that, the X850 generation arrived

then the X1950 came which was another generation

then the 2900XT generation came which was followed bij the 3850 which is now obsolete cause of the 4850, so you are kinda 5 generations behind...

Your processor is about 5 years old, it's like playing gears of war on a ps2

So, in the end, you don't need a super computer but a crap computer won't do

  • KukukachuKukukachu Member Posts: 24

Many things make a big difference.

Is your video card PCI AGP or PCI Express? This make a HUGE difference. you can have a 18 gig video card in a pci slot and it won't run for nothin.

Also that processor just won't cut it. I got a 3.6 gig processor i bought way back when EQ2 launched. runs this game fine on lower settings. I havent tried higher settings yet.

2 gig of ram doesn't mean much if your rest of your pc can't keep up.

You could go to Walmart and pick up something for about $500 and it would blow my system away. just make sure its got a PCI Express slot and find a newer card and BAM you got great Warhammer Performance.

My specs meet (actually exceed) the minimum requirements. My CPU is 2.8 GHz P4, my video card is listed on the box as being supported. So I think they are not being truthful.

My system may be old, but if they were honest in the first place, I wouldn't be upset.

Put two different people playing a game in the same computer. One will say it plays smooth, the other will say it runs like crap, depending on many subjective things and past experience.

  • EvolvedMonkyEvolvedMonky Member Posts: 549

What part of the game slows down your computer?

My cpu and ram are killing my system but i only feel it late tier 2 with all the different looking armor pieces.

Do you slow down in large scale battles? PvE? Standing still? Running?

They need to give an option to turn off damage numbers (not block or parry, etc.. info).  Those damage numbers drop my frames by 10, plus try getting that curse program and set ur buff refresh to a higher number itll help in big battles where DoTs are being thrown around.

Plus I notice I get less stutters when the server is low. Seems like they need to work on the net code a bit, which is normal for these games on release.

Having seen the graphics with my own to eyes, I can tell you that they do not require a super computer. In fact, the graphics are about 4 years old. The engine used was an upgraded DAoC engine. Your computer just plain sucks. Why don't you list your computer specs?

Why don't you read the whole topic?

  • chronocbggchronocbgg Member UncommonPosts: 25

If you just went out and maybe paid... $50, maybe $100 if you aren't planning on buying a new computer anytime soon, you could go and get a 512 video card, maybe a 8600GT or something (they run about 80-100 on newegg and tigerdirect) you should be able to get about 20-30fps on low settings and the game would look fine, but not amazing.

NOTE: I am not sure what slot or what motherboard you have for video cards as to what video cards would fit, there are free tools out there that if you run it, it will tell you what video card slot you have, and a list of what video cards will fit.  Also, GeForce > ATI for gaming IMO and a lot of games (these are the ones I know for sure) WoW, AoC, MO, Crysis, all have been proven to work better with GeForce cards mainly because the gaming companies usually test/build towards GeForce cards since more people have them.  This is my opinion except for the fact that those games do run better with GeForce cards.

If you're thinking of building a new computer, you can easily get a 'super computer' that will run everything on high settings for say... 1200-1500 if you build it yourself.  This is where websites such as tigerdirect and newegg are your friend (and you can even make it look cooler than alienware for a fraction of the price).  If you have questions about building a computer feel free to send me a message I've build a few and there are easy guides on the internet.

I play on "fast framerate" settings in 1920X1200 resolution on a laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo 2.16 GHz, Nvidia GO 7900GS 256MB, 7200 RPM HD and 2GB 667 MHz RAM

I have the best drivers I can get for my card/laptop

I run a pretty clean machine with as few processes/applications running in the background.

Game runs perfectly acceptable for me.

  • metalhead980metalhead980 Member Posts: 2,658

While I have a really nice PC. My sister on the other hand uses a system thats old.

She plays on low settings and only deals with a bit of stuttering in heavy ORvR.

    her specs:

    AMD Athlon 3700 (2.4gigs overclocked to 2.7)

1 gig of Ram, Nvidia 6800gt 256mb Agp

the fact that she actually runs this game boggles my mind.

I think she runs on low settings but puts the characters them selves at medium detail.

Well her system meets the games minimum requirments and plays WoW, EQ2 and Oblivion at High settings.

Now that I think about it, she should run this game, hell she ran Mass effect on medium, CoD4 on medium, TR on medium/high, if you look at the those games all of them look way better than WAR. She could even run LotRO on high DX9.

    PLaying: EvE, Ryzom

    Waiting For: Earthrise, Perpetuum

    He is not wrong guys...

    AMD 64 Dual Core 2.4ghz

    4gb of ddr2 pc6400 RAM

    9800gt 768mb ddr2 RAM

Even on lowest settings there is some video lag... I like playing on full settings and in large fights there is some significant video lag...

It COULD be server side but random lagging all over the damn place seems odd.
